Looks like I'm buying a new non-Audi daily driver/beater...

Went to Thompson this morning… Forgot how crowded this event gets as it’s only $10 to TNT and it’s all for charity so it was a total zoo! They stopped allowing cars in when they got to 600! Needless to say I wasn’t too happy as I was hoping to get a few passes in and then bail. I only ended up making one pass as it would have been another 3-4 hours before I could make another and I have some things to do today. Given it’s only getting hotter my times weren’t going to improve either so just not worth the wait.

Car: 2015 Porsche Macan Turbo, 6,3xx miles, Cobb tune 93 octane file, BMC filters with lids on, full weight including spare and tools with about 1/4 tank of Shell 93 pump gas. Options that may matter: Chrono, PTV, SE AS, 20 inch spyder wheels with a/s tires. 39R 36F. Traction control off

Conditions: Track 1,230 feet Temp 79.0 BP 30.20 RH 82% for a DA of 2,839 which is pretty bad!
http://www.dragtimes.com/da-density-altitude-calculator.php?temperature=79.0&rh=82&altset=30.20&elevation=1230&track=58&month=8&day=28&year=2016&time=10:53%20AM

1.6822 60ft
5.0272 330ft
7.8628 1/8 ET
86.15 1/8 mph
10.3180 1000ft
12.3902 ¼ ET
108.67 mph

Overall, it’s close to what I was expecting given the conditions and IAT’s when I started, was hoping for 12.2x but not too upset. Probably cost myself a few hundredths as I didn’t shallow stage as much as I’d like because the damn hill hold came on and I was able to perfectly creep up to the line. Thought I’d see closer to a 110MPH trap but not today. Truck launched and shifted fine, I know it has a better 60ft time probably a low 1.6x and maybe 1.5x on race fuel which I’ll try soon. Still reviewing the logs but I notice the tune totally retards timing when using LC after you launch for a tenth or two. Not sure why Cobb is doing that, maybe to save the tranny given the tq? Also, a few cylinders had timing pulled to the tune of 3-4 degrees the entire length of the strip. Overall timing was a little lower than I had expected to see but again this is probably a result of the conditions and IAT’s, as I’d prefer to pull timing then have detonation. IAT’s were horrible at 123F when I launched and about 118F going through the traps so the coolers are doing their job fairly well it’s was just to damn hot and sticky and I started with too high of a IAT given I had to sit and the truck never fully cooled down. Still going over the logs so I’ll add more as I review more.

So my best stock was 12.59 but that was in a 342 or about 2,500 feet better. On my S4 that’s easily 2-2.5 tenths and 2-3mph… Fairly confident with a perfect launch in great conditions I’ll go 12.1 on pump and probably 11.8-11.9 on race gas/tune. Will see over the next few months!

Also, had my gopro but forgot the dang memory card wasn’t in it so unfortunately not even gopro vid. There were a few regulars there so I’m hoping someone got a vid and sends it to me and if so I’ll post it. I’ll be going pretty regularly starting in Sept – Nov. so I’ll make sure to get vids in the future.

nothing earth shattering but you only got one run and it didnt sound like the most ideal condition. I was suprised to see you running 93 pump given the history of fuel you used on the S4.

Interesting update. keep em coming

Thanks man! Yeah, I’ll do race gas soon… Haven’t even tried the race tune yet… Truck had fuel and time was tight so I ran with it. Also, wanted to see how much over stock the tune did… Conditions were brutal and I know it has a few more tenths and MPH in it… I’ll probably do one more visit on pump in early fall and then go race gas, remove spare and tools, work on tire pressures, etc. I’ll probably start taking this and the S4 the same day in the fall when it’s dead and run them both… Thanks again Justin!

sounds like a big giant scam. Save your money.

On the iPad so I’ll keep it short… Made 3 passes on 100 octane tune and fuel, gt260. Da was 2,100. Pretty consistent, eh… Lol

Made 3 passes today… 12.16, 12.09, and 12.06. Da was about 600-700 worse than last time. I should have stayed as temps were dropping. Had a little too much fuel also. This is the updated Cobb tune, logged all passes but didn’t’ review yet. Have some go pros and someone said they’d send me my last pass. Truck is launching harder need to start playing with tire pressure. These all seasons aren’t optimal but they’ll be good in the cold temps come nov. Did get a new best 60ft time of 1.62 no doubt I’ll get a 1.5x soon.

Bought an AWE catback with black diamond 102MM tips… Got it used for a very nice price and most important the tips are mint still… They’ll go nice with the black trim. Think I’m going to have the Porshce Macan Turbo on the back painted black as well… Truck is a little too quiet for me so this should liven things up a bit… Going to have some HFC’s fabbed up over the winter. Will probably install this weekend or in the next week or so… Here is what AWE says about the setup… I know it weighs less so I’ll get that benefit… lol I’ll post a sound clip once installed and see if it helps at the strip in a few weeks…

Nice! that should get you into the 11s

Yeah, no doubt… Really just needed a good DA for that…

Got the exhaust on… It’s really not loud at all and I thought it would be louder… Cold start is pretty loud but sounds awesome. Cruising you don’t notice it at all except when you let off the gas pedal the crackles and pops are more pronounced in any gear. Hard acceleration sounds very very nice… Very happy with it… Not sure it is making more power as AWE claims but will see how it does at the dragstrip. Going to try and weigh the stocker but it’s a bit big… lol Here are a few pics…

Looking good…and the numbers are impressive.

So took the Macan and S4 to the strip today as the DA was stellar. Just ran the below…

Car: 2015 Porsche Macan Turbo, 7,5xx miles, Cobb tune 100 octane file, BMC filters with lids on, full weight including spare and tools with about 1/4 tank of Sunoco GT260 100 pump gas. Options that may matter: Chrono, PTV, SE AS, 20 inch spyder wheels with a/s tires. 39R 36F. Traction control off

Conditions: 47F, 30.38BP, 59%RH, track sits at 1,230 feet so overall DA was 279 so near ideal conditions
DA Calculator - Density Altitude Calculator Thompson Drag Raceway - DragTimes.com

Ran 4 times with the best below…

1.5960 60ft
4.7620 330ft
7.4417 1/8th
91.37 1/8th mph
9.7589 1000 ft
11.7188 1/4 et
114.75 1/4 mph

I’m really happy with the et, 60 and mph. The truck just squats and go’s. Haven’t reviewed the logs yet but will post some comments once I have time to go over those…

Questions/comments welcome…

Nice!! How did the s4 fare?

Thanks! Truck moves well for what it is… Going to get some LW forged wheels and tires over the winter and have some hfc’s made. Hoping to get a more aggressive tune and 104 tune from Cobb. I can see this thing going low 11’s!

S4 did ok… One more visit then I’ll do a full post of my adventures this year. Here’s a quick teaser vid…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMrJ-O0kIoM&feature=youtu.be

She’s really screaming!

Excited to see the macan in the low 11s- seriously quick for the little truck.

the Macan is losing about 2 tenths and 2 MPH in the second half. Is that aerodynamics related?

It was on pace for about 11.5 @ 116

Must have shocked the shit out of a few people lol.

Saki, Yeah I think it’s mostly aerodynamics as most of my slips show the same stock or modded. It’s more like a 1.57 factor vs 1.55. The tune isn’t very aggressive either really. Not a lot of timing and the turbos aren’t being maxed out. I’m going to bug Cobb over the winter for a HFC tune, 104 tune and to be a little more aggressive… lol I’m guessing drag racing Macan’s aren’t their target… lol

Yeah, a few people were like WTF! Track was dead I made 5 passes in about 40 minutes…

I look forward to your S4 results. I have been wondering all year what happened. Was it me or did the transmission sound like it wasnt shifting super fast. I dont watch that many B8 S4 videos so maybe that is normal.

Justin, That is AMAX mode and while it appears to slip and shift slower it’s actually faster based on logs and what I’ve been told through APR and their testing. As you can see I have no more hangups which we’ve finally resolved earlier this year. AMAX allows for the car to NOT dump any boost and not pull any timing during shifts so it’s basically full power on the whole way. This has helped my times quite a bit. Also, the “teaser” pass I posted is not on 104 octane it’s on 100.

Congrats. I knew it!

Im so used to hearing the typical DSG shift that it came across as odd. I didnt mean any offence by it I actually am very interested in hearing how everything came together for you this year.
