I don’t think he’s a kid…I think he’s in his 30s, and was in the military for like a decade. I’m surprised he left the marines to be honest. He was pretty hardcore.

I saw that discussion about the JHM thread. He just wanted to mix it up. He used to post 99% of the time in the GCC, where it’s a constant mixup situation. Then you go into the forums and it’s boring as fuck.

if he’s the same guy I think he is, he’s super nice, and I’d trust him with my life. I just think he’s on a bit of a mission to establish himself in the S4 section. Kind of funny to watch. Gotta be careful. I remember predicting the VF supercharged S4 would run 11s on my first month on the forum lol. Gotta bide your time!

yeah slow is a good guy, has a family etc. People who havent been around the V8 S4 forums but have been around other platforms for a long time may need a bit more convincing of what direction to go

Meh, I replied in that thread. If being able to spin-out is not fully disabling the system, I guess I don’t understand what it is doing. I can admit when I’m wrong, was just speaking from experience.

Agree that the premise of that thread was…odd.

Apparently the ESP button pressed in the S4 has a threshold is elevated enough to allow you to spin out, but not enough that you have zero protection.

i.e. in my RS4 I can spin out with ‘first touch’ ESP. It just kicks in traction if you REALLY break them loose. However when you hold it for 3.8 seconds or something like that, you can spin all you want, ESP is not stepping in.

On the S4 the system is somewhere between ‘first touch’ on the RS4 and fully off. It’s still there…but it’s not really easy to trigger it. That’s how it was explained to me. dparm. Duck Parmaggiano?

I guess I’ll need to fiddle with it at the next race event I go to.

fiddle with what? S4 has two settings. Fully engaged…and then slightly neutered when you push the button. HOlding the button for 4 seconds doesn’t do anything on the S4/A4.

The B8 cars have a 2 stage setup like the RS4. Not sure the particulars, but it’s no longer a or b. It’s a, b or c.

I meant with pushing the button and yanking the ABS fuse.

just make sure you take it slow once the fuse is out. Dont go flat out in a race like your used to… the car might not react like your used to and without ABS… that could end very badly!

No one wants to see anyone hurt themselves… or their cars!

Fortunately Autobahn CC and Grattan (the tracks I frequent) have large run-off.

I think it turns completely off. I turn it off and I can do whatever the hell I want in the snow/rain/dry…whatever and it never kicks in. Used it today to christen my new tires

It’s never completely off. Brakes are still applied even though it’s minimal.

I hate to bring back this quote but I have to air out my dirty laundry ;D. That was actually me around when I first got the car and was browsing all the forums with people complaining about the issue and thinking “shit… my car was never cleaned and I don’t really feel any kick at 5k and have a pretty rough idle when cold…”.

twentyvalve had an AWESOME off-road adventure in his ‘i won a contest’ RS4 that he had for 2 years. It was pretty fucking funny because the rain had been pouring so he just tore the FUCK out of the grass and was buried in like 8 inches of mud by the time he stopped.

But seriously, what’s a new RS4 owner to do other than think ‘shit I bought a lemon platform’ when he goes to the biggest audi site and that’s staring him straight in the face. Same for the trolls from the other platforms…they all resort to ‘oh your car sucks, carbon robs you of 50 hp, your car is slow’.

p.s. I ran 12.75 @ 108.36 a month ago this week…still stock and carbonned up.

They say, in that thread, that the Grand Sport and the Z06 are supercharged. Pretty awesome. There is 1 supercharged Vette out of 4 models…but neither of the ones named in the thread is lol
