I guess if your original post on QW had said you were doing full exhaust and not just the catback your response would make sense. Glad I passed reading comprehension back in the day.
Anyways, the exhaust looks good. Probably sounds really good too, since the sebrings sound the best on Audi V8’s in my opinion.
Saki was definitely right, driving with open DPs isn’t the end of the world. It’s not like you were planning on doing it for 500 miles, you were doing it for 20. Why not get some supreme enjoyment out of being open DP for 20 miles?
I did not state that I was replacing the entire exhaust because it was not my point. I was just trying to see what ppl thought about driving w/o the catback.
I agree that it would be enjoyable driving w/o the catback to the indy shop. Hopefully the 2.75" exhaust does sound good but I have no clue because I have not seen a video of one posted online that has HF cats. Most of the exhausts that are 2.75" are catless.
One concern I had was the heat coming out of the downpipes and was worried it might melt some wiring. But after going under the car it did not look like that would be an issue. I will either end up doing the swap myself or just paying for it to get done and will drive to the indy shop with full exhaust intact and then pick up the catback afterward or chop it.
Remember how loud the a6 was when we cranked it over the first time, I could imagine being open headers for more than a few minutes
Yeah you should be fine running open downpipes, there is lots of airflow under the car so nothing melts (personal experience)… may just get sooty/smelly
It scared the fucking life out of me. I don’t think I realised that you guys were starting it, and when you did, I did one of those pussy flinches where you turtle and protect your genitals while making a stupid face.
actually that did just remind me…when I was working on rebuilding the engine in my old corvette (96) back in the day. i did get on the highway with just headers and it was actually quiet until i got on the gas. it was crazy, i would drive up along side of someone on the highway and then get on it and the ppl in cars next to me would literally jump.
Driving without a catback is enjoyable for about the first 5 mins. It’s amazing how loud and awesome it sounds but then starts to wear on you quickly. I had to drive about an hour with mine off one time and I had a killer headache by the end of the trip.
Also, I was in stop and go traffic for a portion of the drive and it didn’t do any damage to the underside of the car or the engine. Maybe a little to my hearing though…
justincredible ran his B6 S4 with open headers at the dragstrip. Can you imagine the noise? Relative to the domestics at the strip our cars are like pussycats, even full exhaust, fully catless. Open headers might fit in a bit better…but I bet they’re still quiet compared to the sportsman series guys who come out.
Neighbor growing up had 505CI alchohol fueled chevy s10, tubbed etc. THAT was loud, it hurt your chest when he fired it up if you were withing 10 yards of it. Same guy had a drag boat that you had to wear hearing protection while in the boat at speed.
At first I thought you were interpreting his post incorrectly or differently than he intended…but I reread it again and I am as confused as you are. That is…odd. Maybe he’ll chime in here.
there’s a reason for it I think. Something to do with the accents on the vowels or something. Maybe snowtrooper could chime in.
As for why he bought the B8 S4, it’s hard not to. They’re so damn good. I don’t blame him at all…I just thought it was hilarious how he slammed it in his review then bought it.
He lives in Chicago so a C63/IS-f/E60 M5 would all be retardedly annoying 4 months a year.
