Well, seeing as I have the power available from the start, and that we’re both limited by the motor, I think I’d have the edge no? It’s not like he can suddenly turn on the nitrous and get 600whp. He’ll have the same 400 and change whp limitation I have. I just have the power on tap throughout the entire run.
We could only hope…haha but it would be cool to meet a few of you guys at once. The only guy I know is V8S4Ryan and he has dropped off the face of the planet…
I think it would be awesome for the B6/B7 community and JHM to have us run against each other with a very similar mod list other than the power adder.
if you only knew the extent of that motor builds program. Absolute nightmare for them. Cost then lots of money, time, energy, and a coupe of good customers. They kept you and others at a distance because they didn’t want to see that happen again.
Everyone wants to say " just drop in rods and pistons" but there are a bunch of problems with the motors that they want to address.
“just drop in rods and pistons”, the favorite refrain of morons like Clint at rai/audia4_2.0t, is tantamount to planting a nice tree in a toxic waste dump. Sure the tree looks nice there for about five minutes, but it is immediately dying, and before long it is gone.
I find the price very reasonable, especially considering how small the 4.2bhf performance market is. Does anyone know if JHM did any testing with aftermarket cams with different duration or lift? I assume if they did they considered gains to be minimal leading to them reusing the stock cams on these built heads.
Jason said they tested cams and found the gains weren’t worth the sacrifice in smootheness. He didn’t think Audi owners would want a lumpy idle to pick a few whp.
This was a couple of years ago though, so maybe they have since changed their stance on that.
yeah I recall Jay saying that with the Schrick cams they would pick up a bit up top but the car would be a dog in the low/mid range and then would come alive at the very end of the power band. He thought you’d need to get the heads ported to get the full benefit of those cams.
I personally have always enjoyed a meaty, loping V8 at idle with a bit of snarl and bite, but then again, the Audi is certainly meant to be a bit more of a refined beast.
Maybe I’m not a typical Audi owner, but driving a 4door AWD sedan with a big lumpy idle would make my face hurt from smiling so much. I understand the thinking though and I was surprised to see there isn’t a port work option, but I’m sure like most things anything is possible if you have the cash flow.
