Made some pump gas passes today at the shithole that is Dragway 42

So I was a little bummed yesterday that Thompson didn’t open because it was cold and I guess a little damp… Well I decided to take a nice long drive and pretty much got lost and had to put some gas in, figured no biggie I would run the 93 tune during the week and fuel up next weekend with URT before I went to Thompson… First time the car has seen less than 100 gas since I have been tuned… Actually, feels pretty strong on the 93 tune also… Then this morning I was surfing the forums and wanting to race and decided to check Norwalk, nope closed… I reluctantly checked Dragway 42 and sure enough it was open for their first day of the year, hmmm I hate that place… Gravel road to get in, very little shutdown area after your pass, all the parking is grass which I knew would be muddy, etc… Also, out in BFE and about 1.25 hours from my house…

Figured fuck it I am itching to make some passes and don’t have anything going on, err still have 1/8ish tank of Shell 93… Thought about taking a pail of URT and filling up once I got there but the track is about 80 miles from my house so I would need to add some before I left in order to make it or stop along the way… Decided instead to run the 93 tune and see what the car would do on pump…

I think most everyone knows but here are my mods:
My Car: 2010 Audi S4 - DSG with sports dif, 7,300 miles, 1/4 tank of gas, tools and spare removed

Mods: APR tune, APR pulley, LFC’s, miltek non-res exhaust, custom intake, APR CPS, front and rear sways, Alu Kruez, Brembo BBK, JHM LW rear rotors, BBS CHR’s, tire pressure 38F 34R

DA was 111 according to dragtimes, weather station showed closer to 200 but still great none the less… 47F, 65% relative humidity, and 30.1 BP…
First pass, felt decent and sure enough it was as I went 12.0001 at 116… LOL! Not quite 11 second pass but the car was still warm…
Hot lapped about 5 minutes later and what felt like another good pass, sure enough 11.93 at 116! Boom 11 second pass on pump…
Let the car cool down and made another and went 12.01 at 116 with a slight 1-2 hangup…

Was actually the next up and getting ready to stage when a slick car blew his motor and crashed very badly! Saw a huge cloud of white smoke and I believe oil got all over the track and caused him to lose it… He went in the other lane, slammed into the wall, then back into the other lane, slammed into that wall, and flipped over… Very scary! I backed away from the tree and decided this would take forever to cleanup and they will probably shut down for the day… They did get the driver out and he seemed ok but as I was leaving I heard a helicopter so not sure if they called a life flight to take him to the hospital ?

I’ll post the slips shortly need to get some lunch… Have gopro vids but no outside vids…
Probably should have ran race gas given the DA but it is what it is… Next Sat. is supposed to be low 40’s so if Thompson opens I’ll take a crack at some killer times then…
Edit: To add slips… They are all off by 1 hour, not sure why but it was 11:xx not 10:xx

Congrats PT! Great to see some pump gas times.

Scary to hear about the crash, always worth letting the other guy go first

Thanks Bango! Yeah, I’m actually kicking myself now as I think I could have beaten my 11.69 given the conditions but such is life… If conditions are good next week I think I’ll beat it anyway… Need to get that out of the way so I can focus on the TTRS once it arrives…

Yeah, the accident was horrible… Huge cloud of smoke and then you seen him hit the one wall and richoceht and hit the other wall before flipping on his roof… Actually, got a little sick to my stomach… Like I said as I was leaving he was out of the car talking to the medics and hopefully nothing serious… Was a fatality last year at Thompson… Have to keep in mind that there is always that potential danger and this is why I am very anal about checking my car over before I run… No tech at the tracks around us so you’re on your own…

No tech? How is that possible? I thought you needed to pass tech to run? Having said that, tech at the tracks I’ve been to just write the numbers on the windows for plated street driven cars.

Those are some killer pump times. Good work.

Holy shit that’s monstrous on pump. Matched the rs4s with the Apr kit!

That track is ihra certified at a glance. That means it’s going on the list.

Damn I’m going to busy tomorrow. Thanks for running on pump… Not that your did it for me but I always wanted to know what your car could do on 93 so there we have it. Was it a mix of 93 plus a bit of race or all 93?

Nice times Prime!!

Great time PT!

I knew this platform had 11’s on pump gas in her… Now I need to see if I can get there my next time out… Congrats again bud!

That must feel awesome to have sub-12 second pump times. Can you get California to start selling some of that 93 octane gas out here? Good job!

bango, Yeah literally no inspection at Thompson or 42… Norwalk will inspect if it’s a big race but a car like mine they would just glance at, they take the “race” cars more seriously…

paper, Thanks! DA was great and I know that played into it especially with the trap speed…

Saki, Thanks! Yeah it’s an IHRA track but not sure how… The place is just bad but like I said it was Sunday, not much going on, and had the itch… Like I said running pump was kind of unintentional but I am really paronoid about running the race tune with any pump in there especially the 104 tune, so I took the conservative approach and figured I would see what the car could do on pump… Just wish the conditions weren’t so good because now I am left wondering if I would have gone 11.6x on race gas… As for the fuel, I had URT in there and got down to 5 miles on the readout, put in about $15 of 93 which got me to around 3/8ths of a tank… Drove around a little more and got home with a little over 1/8th left… Once I decided to go with pump I put in another $15 which got me close to 1/2 tank… Drove out there and was down to 1/4ish… Actually, had to put $10 more in to make it home… So I am sure there was some race gas in there but minimal… Gonna run this down to 0 and then add 1/2 tank of URT to flush any pump out before next weekend…

David, Thanks bud! Yeah I figured with a killer DA very high 11’s was doable on my car, your car, Ryan’s and probably Pete’s… Hopefully, Thompson opens next weekend and the DA is killer as you know me I care more about beating the 11.67 Ryan put up than the pump times but still nice to get into the 11’s…

Skid, Thanks man! Sorry no connections in the CA government! LOL We have to make special product to sell out there, worst state to do business in but such a big market…

historically we’ve seen about 3 tenths for race vs pump so you certainly could have had something awesome happen on race

Hey PT, is this place lower altitude than Thompson?

Saki, yep that is about what I was thinking .3 delta and that could have “potentially” gotten me a low 11.6x but it is all speculative until I do it…

Yes, 42 is a lower elevation thank Thompson

Thompson - 1230
Dragway 42 - 903
Norwalk - 849

Like I have mentioned in the past, Thompson is known to be the slowest track in NE Ohio but since it is so close it’s where I go… Norwalk is the really fast track around here…

It would be hard to drive 40 minutes past Thompson to go somwhere else when it’s so close. You should give Norwalk a go though.

Agreed! If it’s a ‘faster’ track then I want to see an 11.5X!

Great Pump Times Prime!! DSG FTW!!! ;D

So I just realized your up in NW Ohio… I’m down in Dayton, live real close to Kilkare and will be heading to the track soon to get some GIAC Stage I pump and 100 octane runs in before I go to Stage II. We should organize a Columbus get together over the summer sometime and get as many of us up there as we can. We could have a lot of fun running around the loop or heading to a track up there.

Congrats again on the times!!

Saki, Yeah I do need to try Norwalk… problem is not so much the drive but that it is usually packed and you get 1-2 passes if you stay all day… They have TNT’s but not as frequently and a good chunk of them are on Friday nights which usually don’t work for me…

Pete, I’ll be well below 11.5 this year I believe just may not be this blower or car ;D LOL

dollardoc, I’m actually in NE Ohio but would be game for a track meet up… I may go to Cbus anyway to hook up with Jonezsi as he has a TTRS…

Congrats on breaking into 11s on pump gas! I too have always wanted to see you do a few runs on the 93 file. Great stuff.

Right on man, wasn’t sure if it was just you, or others that were in NW Ohio. Will have to try to meet in CBus sometime this summer for sure!

Awesome work Ron!

Thanks guys! Appreciate it… Hopefully a new race gas record coming this weekend… otherwise it may be fall or a new blower before that happens…
