I don’t think I was bitching, just pointing out the irony. Nobody at APR or GIAC/AWE claimed their pulley was $500, the $500 includes the stage 2 file. This is where others are saving us monies, they aren’t really charging for the upgraded software
If I bought an Epic or EPL tune I would be shipping my ECU south of the border, ultimately this would end up costing me at least another $150-200 on top of the $1200 Epic charges for their, plus I would need to buy their uploader for further revisions, things start adding up quickly, especially when you factor in currency exchange.
I would have liked to try the custom tune route, but ultimately I am only paying an additional $300 locally to have a safe/reliable GIAC tune. I wish you luck and can’t wait to see your results
I think that’s one of the things that really makes me mad.
If I pay to get my car tuned I shouldn’t have to pay extra for more boost or because I have larger injectors. But because people in the Audi community have paid for those things for years it’s what prior are accustomed to.
I can understand if it’s an upgrade to pay for their time but don’t charge for a stage one and extra for stage two when it’s the same thing
So, EPL has a stg 1 & 2, only difference the stg 2 APR/GIAC use a smaller pulley and EPL keeps the stock size pulley with stg 2? I think thats what im getting clochner…
But now, since you will be a stg 2 with a smaller pulley, you get a custom tune, correct? Or am I even further out in left field, like bumping into the hotdog stands and shit?
No, he’s getting the “cheaper” tune… You know the unproven one, with no strip times, logs, etc. From the same company that couldn’t tune a blown RS4, you know the one with all the supposed B5 records… Now I hope he at least is kind enough to log/hit the strip and share the results? His deal the entire time has been about cost and APR/GIAC margins, don’t let him fool you into believing otherwise… Did you really think he was going to drive/send his car somewhere and paid an hourly rate for a custom tune? Not a chance…
Saxon, I saw your post on loggin ?'s on vendorzine… I don’t think you got many replys so if you need help there is a post floating around here and I would be glad to send you some information via email if you need help… You just have to promise to share the logs so we can all see how the tune stacks up… Good luck looking forward to your results…
^^^good point. In fact that was historically the problem with EPL. They make loads of power, but the tune’s driving dynamics suck, and rob the car of acceleration. Keep it in one gear, and sure, they can do pretty well. Bring a gear change into the mix? look out
On the big power B5 cars they tuned, they frankly were batting .000 for cars that could be real world fast. Sure they looked great on the dyno (in one gear) or in a 60-130 pull if they left it in 4th…but make the guy race at speeds under 100 mph and they lost by buslengths.
On the B8 S4, they won’t need to do much to extract gains. They likely left the throttle alone, removed any throttle restrictions in low gears, added a little timing, leaned out AFR a hair and opened the boost bleedoff valve. Basic stuff because the car is so sorted already.
