Mec's Intro Thread

huh, strange, I always thought a front explosion would be worse. Because its your steering tires, do you think maybe it was the fact that yours probably blew up completely?

I’ve seen tires on the highway that are just torn to bits, they have no shape, they are just a rolled out piece of rubber, vs mine it seems like a hole just popped through and deflated. it was a pretty big hole though but no real explosion. I did get new tires mounted today, they said the wheel was fine, so I was happy to hear it didn’t need replacing.

That’s the only catastrophic blowout I’ve ever had. I can say that the car was very difficult to control. Very squirrelly.

Ironically, I saw a dump truck shred a front tire on the interstate 295 to 95 ramp. You know those oversized fronts on dump trucks? Made a hell of a debris field to drive through. He wrestled it to the grassy shoulder of the ramp. I was behind him in my STi (I don’t like to leave my RS at the airport), and had no choice but to drive through the debris. No damage I can see, though.

I had a rear blowout in a Honda accord once. Going 70.

It was no big deal surprisingly. BANG! FLUP FLUP FLUP FLUP FLUP FLUP…

and then I just slowed down to a stop

The other day I noticed my LR Michelin PSS on the RS4 was flat looking. Slow leak, nail in sidewall, new tire.

Good that you caught it before damaging anything. Any idea why your TPMS didn’t pick up the low pressure?

Quoting myself: I spoke too soon. Tire debris from that dump truck knocked my STi’s left front fender liner off its lower attachment point, which then allowed the liner to shred itself on my tire. I now have 3/4 of a fender liner left. :-\

Had it happen to me in the passing lane in Dallas Texas in my Subaru…Very trippy trying to cross 5 lanes during rush hour.

Funniest thing I’ve probably ever seen is an old Buick riding a flat down the highway until it flew off into a few strips like mec said and then proceeded to create a 10 foot shower of sparks while it continued down the highway. I can’t imagine he got far before the cops saw him.

Somehow I’ve never blown a car tire yet but I’ve blown both the front and rear tire on a motorcycle on the highway before and that shit’s scary.

Hopefully whoever picked you up brought a fresh pair of undies for you haha.

Small update. My exhaust broke!

For like the last year my exhaust has been super loud, hammering on something, vibrations, tons of heat on the floorboard, its driven me insane and its caused me to want to pickup a JHM downpipe and FI catback.

Well I’m happy to report I found the cause of all my issues

I was driving back to Denver to meet up with a local guy who said he would let me drive his JHM RS4, I assumed that he would want to drive my car too since he had asked about it. Well sure enough like always the car had an issue, I hit a pothole coming out of a tunnel and there was tons of vibration from the exhaust like it broke or something, so I get into his pristine rs4 with 20k on it, it feels incredible, then he gets into my car and it sounds like a fartcan and like a piece of shit hahahahah this car never stops embarrassing me.

Well I get back to Denver, throw it up on ramps, and realize that my branch resonator broke at the seam. This is what a branch resonator is for those of you that don’t know. Not my car.

Its a tube that comes out of the side of the main exhaust stream, it is designed for the correct length by measuring hertz of the drone (4 cyls have very bad drone) so the length you make it reflects the soundwaves back at 180* and cancels out the drone entirely. I know it sounds like blackmagic but it totally works now that I have tried it.

Anyway so its broken, I message a guy who has welded some parts for me before and he tells me yeah this is a mess, this is stainless and he mig’ed with using two types of gas, it would have never held up that weight, so he cleans it up, tig’s it, and the thing looks gorgeous now, super strong, he did a fantastic job. Well I try to install it and realize, my transmission is hitting it!!! the dickbag who originally installed it, placed it touching the transmission, so my issues with vibration and rattle have been that branch resonator hitting hte transmission. Well I adjusted it and spin the piece around a bit and got it to stop hitting the transmission, had to get rid of the aluminum plate that goes on the back which I assume is for if your exhaust ever breaks. Fixed that, fixed the exhaust leak…and it works amazing…the car has 0 drone…its gone. no vibration, no rattle, and it still sounds really nice on the outside, it didn’t change the exhaust note very much, just silenced the cabin…well I’m ecstatic. This is one of those issues that has driven me nuts for a year, and I’m glad its finally fixed.

it’s so funny when something bothers you and you just deal with it…then you finally address and say ‘what the fuck was I waiting for???’

Exactly

Nice fix always nice to get these little things sorted out. Good job

Kind of like when I had my B5… and then bought a B7. LOL

LPFP went out. I’ve been chasing these misfires for a month, after replacing the coil packs I narrowed it down to fueling, from fueling checked the hpfp system and injectors, HPFP was not meeting requested past 4500, checked the lpfp system and pressure was dropping to 2.5 bar.

Ordered a TTRS lpfp which supposedly flows close to twice the amount the stock b7 pump can flow…seems stretched, but it has been proven to flow more. Gonna try to get it attached to my green top pump to avoid having all the issues of reworking the fuel filter lines.

Just seeing this now, as I venture into the B7 forum.

Amazing build. Losing the blacked out taillights was a great move.

How do you like the KONI FSD, and did you get the complete kit with the Eibach springs, or did you just buy the shocks and provide your own springs.

I had thought that the FSD kit didnt give you much drop if any, but your drop looks perfect to me. And I love the idea of maintaining factory like compliance.

Thank you. I am very happy with the Koni FSD kit. it came with Eibach springs, bought it a few years back for $750-800 it was a deal!

The FSD kit dropped me a little over an inch, and IMO its the perfect drop, I don’t scrape on much with 235/35 tires I am high enough to go over speed bumps and to not wreck my oil pan, but low enough to get rid of the wheel gap.

I would def recommend it.

Good to know it wasn’t the tune I sent you.

oh no that was something else…it was stumbly…no clue what that was. But I loaded up a few files since then and it worked fine, then about a month or two ago i started getting misfires at 5k. ordered coil packs and a cam follower from JHM but didn’t end up fixing it. and last night I finally had some free time to diagnose it.

It was probably the boost PID map then. My car seems to be the only one that likes it.

That could very well be it. Not sure, it drives great now, Idles great, can’t even tell its missing the balance shafts, pulls strong…and then falls on its face once the lpfp quits lololol.

We know the tyre pump flows enough for me to run e85

Ttrs* lol.
