More B8 Dyno jerking off. Fun stuff.

The B8 guys rival the B5 guys for their love of the dyno. It’s awesome to watch everyone bicker.

Anyway, here’s the post with the results
First of all many thanks to AWE and Bert for setting this up!
I also agree that it was a great and unique G2G, since i will probably never see that many B8s at once!
Very happy to meet so many enthusiasts!
AWE will have more info for us next week.

Now with the numbers:

Dawei213: Revo stage 1 (DSG): 354.5 hp 318tq short shifting around 6500RPM

Richib86: APR stage 2 v2.0, Eurocode headers, milltek res exhaust, strat intake (6MT): 362 hp (350ish) tq don’t remeber the exact number!

Socfan12: APR stage 2, pulley, 353hp, 330tq DGS was short shifting at 6500 RPM

mdma2004: APR stage 1, milltek non-res exhaust, strat intake (6MT): 369hp, 317tq
yea it was an interesting dyne day to say the least lol

How come your header stage 2 car dyno less than a stage 1, do you think your headers are not that good of a design rich

So…why are they all trashing REVO? The REVO guy made 354 whp/318 wtq vs. 290/290 in stock mode. So he picked up 60 whp/25 wtq…that’s fucking amazing. Arin is dancing like he just won the lottery after reading those numbers. No excuses…those are awesome. I don’t get it.

The only useful comparisons here are the 2 APR cars NOT running a beta tune (so NOT richi) and the just-a-tune REVO car.

1. dawei REVO - 354/318 - tune only
vs
socfan12 APR - 353/330 - tune + pulley + ??? (any other mods? )

In this instance, the APR stage 2 tune (and pulley) and whatever mods were not noted in the thread added a grand total of 1 whp, and 12 wtq. That’s not exactly awesome…and that’s a win for REVO.

2. dawei REVO - 354/318 - tune only
vs.
mdma2004: APR - 369/317 - milltek non-res exhaust, strat intake, and 6MT which has less DTL thus outght to be marginally stronger

This time, the guys are both stage 1 tune on pump…but the APR car had Manual vs. DSG, a catback exhaust and an intake. These mods added up to 15 whp and -1 wtq. That’s pretty much a draw as far as I can tell power wise when you factor the drivetrain loss of the DSG car into it. So either there’s nothing between the two, or there is a little better for APR and the catback and intake are doing 0. Both are realistically possible. Again, basically a draw head on.

The concern, I’d have if I was APR is that their 2 stage II cars made less power than the stage 1 car. Granted richi had some issues, so throw his results out. Look at the stage 1 APR car vs stage 2 APR car.

3. socfan12 APR - 353/330 - tune + pulley + ??? (any other mods? )
vs.
mdma2004: APR - 369/317 - milltek non-res exhaust, strat intake, and 6MT which has less DTL thus outght to be marginally stronger

Once again, the MT6 car has a slight advantage drivetrain loss wise (say 10-12 whp) so consider that…but I find it pretty amazing that the stage II tune/pulley has again added almost no appreciable peak difference vs. a stage 1 car, this time APR’s own stage 1 tune… In fac the stage 2 car made -16 whp, but did put up +13 wtq. Sure the MT6 stage 1 car has a catback and an intake but again, this isn’t a combo that has shown to add a ton on the dyno. The stage 2 car has a definite torque advantage of 13 wtq despite DTL, but I’m still finding the numbers kind of odd.

Even stranger is that Arin is touting these numbers as big wins for APR…and is shoving the numbers in the face of the REVO supporters. Umm…dude…your cars just dyno’d weaker than REVO with less mods, and your own stage II did fuck all against your own stage 1. You may need to focus on your own problems not the competition so much. Again as everyone knows I have no dog in this race…I dislike both companies’ approach to this tuning battle equally, don’t really care who wins and am just an interested observer. I just think it’s funny how everyone thinks that because the REVO car didn’t dyno 386 whp like auditude (a notorious liar/cheat/scammer) this is for whatever reason ‘good’ for APR.

The biggest thing this ‘showdown’ proves is that dynos are confusing, temperamental machines. I’m pissed the B8 guys didn’t do pulls after the dyno day was over. All that most of us really want to know about…WHAT CAR IS FASTEST!

richi is on a beta tune, and program switching may have fucked his numbers up. Beta stuff should never be dyno’d publicly anyway, so it’s good the numbers were fucked up. I wouldn’t take anything from them frankly.

I do indeed find this to be the truth. If I understand it correctly, the numbers are showing peak hp/tq. The count mentioned area under the curve in the B5 thread. How did motorheads come to caring most about peak hp? Having said that, people often ask me “how many hp has your car got?” and are disappointed when I don’t know. The knowledgeable ones, however, know that a high 13’s family wagon is pretty quick. The 1/4 mile isn’t perfect but I can’t drive a dyno sheet around.

(Disclaimer: Curiosity may get the better of me one day and I may put my car on the dyno. Maybe.)

Rich, Can you post all the graphs? Do you have the raw files with the rpm, hp and tq values?

Saki, I have said it all along… dyno #'s don’t prove crap… Hopefully, APR works out the issue with the tune if there is one? Richi deserves better…

Here’s one for you(different dynos of course)…
Car A dyno’s 420whp
Car B dyno’s 361whp
Car C dyno’s 386whp

12.5x
12.4x
12.0x

match the dynos and times… lol

bangoman, Agreed…

well different dynos definitely doesn’t mean jack

p.s. anyone surprised AWE didn’t sandbag the APR results? Or anyone thinking they did, thus the not so awesome showing?

how about people do it the oldschool way and just line em up. you cant cheat pulls

once i get my shit sorted you know im in lol. you can feel a heavy power cut when driving my car. it almost feels hardware related. it feels like somethings up with the fuel pumps cus past 5500 rpm its sputtering which leads to a lean code. almost like clearing air bubbles from a high pressure hose. so ill continue logging but somethings def up. i can care less about dynos, its just nice to get comparisons from multiple cars at one time

its the only way shit will get settles. im sure if a revo car with less mods came up and walked away from you or another apr car, that basically would settle it right there. you cant argue those results. Please dont take it like im saying it will, just saying IF. the same could be said for an apr car pulling away from a revo or giac car, you cant argue the results

plus ill host the venue for you b8 guys. richi you havent been to my new shop, you’ll like it

is it “me” friendly… think about it for a few lol, where is it? im living in hoboken now

hahaha ‘me’ friendly

420 + street racing

its pretty ‘you’ friendly hahaha

its in east rutherford, so 10 minutos from you

you know me all to well lol

good stuff, hit me up this week, i got some logging to do if you wanna help me out with that

hell yea, i have some to do as well if i ever get my new motor mount bracket in lol

sounds like a fuel cut… got a fuel pressure gauge on the LP side? Maybe look into what the fuel rail pressure limiter valve is rated to open at?

lol so how does the B8 compare to the B7 for discreet storage compatments?
