Does anybody here ride; if you do:
what do you ride?
how long have you ridden for?
(If possible) what was your first bike?

I started riding almost 3 years ago.
First bike: Suzuki Katana 600
Second: 89 Honda CBR 600 Hurricane
Third: 86 Suzuki Savage 650
Fourth: 2001 Suzuki SV650
Fifth: 2003 Suzuki SV650
Current: 2006 Yamaha R6 Raven
Nice…why did you decide to stick with the 600s and not upgrade to the 750s, 800s or liters?

With my R6 I can break highway speed laws in 2nd gear. Guys are getting these things into the low 11s stock. I have had this bike for a year now and it still scares me.
I can break speed laws in 2nd in my car too! But just barely lol. And it still scares me, but nothing like ANY bike would.
I think bikes are cool, but they scare the shit out of me. I got a couple friends with 1L and other sport bikes and they’re nuts. They’ve all done 160+ on them (on the interstate). Fucking nuts (and stupid imo to do that).
This.
One of the stupidest things I’ve ever done was doing 125mph on a bike in a t-shirt. It was more dangerous than when I jumped out of a plane.
I had an 08 R1 Raven Edition…it was retarded…fast that is
Liter bikes are absolutely ridiculous and almost pointless unless you plan to track it every weekend. It’s too easy to hit uncontrollable speeds on public roads.
I did plenty of retarded stuff on both my bikes. They are fun but it was time to move on for me.
I had knee surgery yesterday. I woke up in the PACU (post anaesthetic care unit) at 3 pm with a guy moaning in pain across from me.
Broken right femur
Dislocated hip
Broken radius in his right arm
Lots of broken ribs
Concussion
No skin left on most of the left side of his body.
The surgeon was walking through all the injuries with the PACU nurses. At one point I heard ‘was operating a motorcycle under the influence of alcohol marijuana and cocaine…’
Rising a bike is dangerous enough without drugs/alcohol. Fucking nuts. .
It’s one of the few things an insurer cares about (skydiving, car racing, scuba diving and motorcycle riding) when putting a policy on your life. Anyone of those will drastically change your risk rating. Makes you realise…we probably shouldn’t be doing those things if that’s the 4 things that actuarially will get you.

They ding you pretty good for being a pilot too. For life insurance, even though I hadn’t been current in 4 years and thus didn’t disclose anything, they asked if I had flown a small plane in the past 2 years or something along those line. Thought it was pretty interesting how much they cared about that one.
I’m currently looking/researching my options for what bike I want, it will be my first one so I figure I’d ask you gents here. Wifey continually disagrees with me on why I should own a bike and says I’ll kill myself plus throw in the “you have three kids to take care of” factoid.
My guess is she has been jaded by all the crotch rocket stereotypes thus the veto on bikes so now my strategy has changed to cruiser/sportsters. They’re not FAST fast and they’re loud so it’ll be hard for some jack-ass to NOT know I’m coming.
I originally wanted the Honda VFR800/Interceptor and it was pretty much my dream bike ever since my dad brought home his F4i. Anyways, since crotchrockets are out of the question, I’m now looking at the following bikes:
HD Night Rod Special
HD 1200 Custom
Victory Vegas 8-Ball
Victory Hammer S
Yamaha/Star Stryker
Yamaha/Star Raider
I like the way you think man^
Those would be my top choices and in that order.
I rode 883 and 1200, both are quite nice bikes. However getting a Night Rod and customizing it into my own is my dream. Those things just look evil when done propely.

Thank you Sir; we’re on the same wavelengths. I spent the entire day looking at the Night Rod specials, specifically the used ones AND creeping on desktop images. This is my motivation for the type of bike I want:

DROOL!
I tried the cruiser route. Couldn’t do it.
Got to keep your head on a swivel and pretend that every cage has no idea you exist.
And don’t be a squid
Let’s keep this to bikes and not preaching. We all make our choices.
20 years riding, the only bikes I have left are the really loud TL1000 track bike, and the KTM 450sx.
Really tempted to pick up this Duc 848 a local guy has for sale…it’s a full track bike with a 1040 stroker motor and full Ohlins. It’s a steal at less than 10K, and 147 horses at the wheel. Wife says no, but I’ve been weeks finishing my honey do list, and texting this guy seeing if it’s still available. Hopefully.
I threw a headlight and tail light on the TL and been riding it the last week, haven’t been on the street for a few years…no mirrors or stand, lol, have to lean it against posts and walls. Funny but I can’t bear to put them back on, hate the look and don’t need it for the riding I’m doing.
Just make sure you sell the other bikes if you buy that one. Piling shit up makes no sense. Ducatis sound great.
Also I wasn’t preaching. Just an interesting observation that despite the already inherent risks of motorcycling, some people go ahead and compound those risks be being drunk/stoned. Hard to believe, but the guy paid dearly for that decision .

Preaching…don’t worry, every non-rider does it. Ex-riders do too. Hell even I do it, when I see people going out without gloves or eye protection…I refuse to ride with them. Don’t want to be there to pick up the pieces…literally.
But sure, as a stat, in 20 years riding, I’ve been down plenty at the road track, plenty last year in MX, and only twice on the street…when I was a new rider. Those are the idiots to watch out for…new riders. But with probably 20+ big spills I had my first motorcycle injury last year - knee, and had surgery, like yourself - from the mx bike, whiskey throttle over a jump.

The KTM 450SX is for sale, but it’s not selling, and I don’t want to give it away. I’m looking into getting a pair of Warp 9 wheels, and doing a conversion, like this…

I used to ride back when I lived in Colorado. Started with a used 02 Yamaha R6 and rode that thing like crazy. I then upgraded to an 07 r6 since the new style was incredible. Took it to the track and canyons all the time. A few years later I found a top good to pass up deal on a new R1 so I jumped on that. Thing was incredibly fast. Only thing that i have ever driven that my nerve ran out before the power did. I backed off just as the speedo hit 201mph on a long stretch of desert between Denver and grand junction CO. Ended up bringing the bike back to Nj with me and sold it after riding a few times. Too humid, pot holy, and dangerous for me here. Here is one on my yellow bike (haha)

Suzuki GSXR 1000
Been riding for about 25 years
Started on a yamaha ysr 50 when I was in 8th grade, then went to a Honda Interceptor 500, Honda CBR 600, GSXR 750 and finally where I am now. I have the bike dyno tuned with velocity stacks, power commander and exhaust. Full throttle starts to get wild at 9k rpm and by the time I hit redline at 14k rpm I am deep into triple digit speeds. I have yet to drive/ride anything that gives me the same exhilaration as the acceleraton of a street bike.
Started riding 2 stroke dirt bikes when I was a kid, probably around age 10. My first was a 1981 Honda CR80…yes it was so old it still had the dual rear shocks. My first exhaust replacement was a coffee can, a section of a pool skimmer handle I cut and house fiberglass insulation. I was a hack DIY at age 10 ;D
From there it was a shit ton of various dirt bikes/quads that eventually led to street bikes.
Everything from KX80’s/125s and 250’s through CR250’s and an RM125 at one point. Too many to remember. I still own one quad - 2006 Honda 400ex. It has a 440Kit on it and it’s plenty for me to have fun with in the winter when it snows. It just sits in my garage otherwise. Don’t have the time.
Then came the street bike hoarding. 4 at a time at one point. Two street bikes and two track bikes. That became ridiculous and ended up keeping one street bike. My 06’ 600RR. Sold it a few years back (2012 I think) and haven’t ridden since.
I miss riding but the area I live in is too congested and full of naive cagers for motorcycle riders to feel safe. Plus I really don’t have that kind of free time any more.
