I’m thinking CPS possibly… Any input would be greatly appreciated. Looked through Badger’s thread, might’ve been CPS there too.
for the no start log the motor RPM in vag com. if you dont see any rpm in vag com your crank position switch is bad. The code already says its bad and that will cause a no start for sure.
the alarm turn off your interior alarm sensor
on the brakes try bleeding the brakes more and look in vag com for the bleeding of the brakes in the abs section
Thanks justincredible! So you also think it’s crankshaft position sensor.
Just to clarify about brakes, nothing is lit up on the dash like warning lights or anything like that. It’s the brake lights themselves in the back of the car that would go on in the middle of the night bythemselves as if someone is pressing and holding down a brake pedal. I don’t believe it’s a mechanical issue where I need to bleed or re bleed system, seems some kind of electrical malfunction… brakes are all good in terms of fluid, rotors and pads.
None of the issues have caused any fault lights to appear on dash at any point in time.
The vag codes say engine speed sensor fault and that is the crank position sensor. So from what you said and the codes I would say they go hand in hand. You can look at the rpm on start up to verify but it seems clear to me. Check the sensor before you replace first but yes
Issue #1:
Isn’t there a switch under the pedal? I feel like I’ve read about this a lot, although I’ve never experience it myself. There is a brake light switch triggered by your brake pedal that can flake out. Google P/N 7L6945511
Issue #2:
When my alarm started randomly going off (I could usually kill it with the keys though) it was the hood latch sensor. The wires were all frayed and worn. When I unplugged the sensor the alarm stopped randomly going off. So maybe just peek at that, make sure the wires don’t look like garbage.
Issue #3:
I would agree it is your crank sensor. Symptoms match up perfectly. Swap it out. They can be had under $50 on FCP Euro.
Alright so figured everything out! Brake light switch was faulty indeed, replaced with new one. Wires for alarm were frayed as well making contact and triggering alarm randomly, fixed as well. And last but not least it was indeed CPS, installed brand new Bosch sensor and voila cranked right up and haven’t had a problem ever since. It was a bit tricky to put it, but a little patience does wonders haha
Thank you gentlemen for all the help, much appreciated!!!
Ona side note, will be posting a lot of quality B6/7 parts for sale, so check out classifieds.
Nice so it looks like we had some good direction for you.
You don’t happen to have any pictures of the frayed wires for the alarm do you.
I’ll be looking for the parts in the classifieds.
Yup pretty much reassured my thought pattern. I snapped so many pictures during replacement of CPS and brake light switch that I completely forgot to document alarm fix.
Parts are listed and pictures to be added shortly.
It is always helpful on the documentation with pix. I have had my alarm go off a few times for no reason. I would be instersted in seeing what you came up with. Mine hasn’t happened enough to really cause me to look too hard but if you have a fix it would be worth looking into.
Thanks
