My B6 S4 JHM SC Install

I didn’t get to drive it yet (tomorrow will be the day), but I did get her started. No leaks, no check engine light, no errors (other than the expected lights since they were not attached). All the fluids are filled and she started up with ease.

excitingstuff

love the deep lip on the pulley and the beefed up belt

wonder if the rs4 has the same lame belt as stock s4?

Yeah the RS4 belt is the same. The B6/7 S4, RS4, D3 S8, and C6 S6 all use the same tensioner so the belt width must be the same. Bunch of other cars too like touaregs, cayenne’s and Q7’s. that’s a lot of shitty tensioners floating around.

Speed that thing sounds nasty. It has a break in period of 500? miles so take it easy at first. Not sure why nobody ever brings that up but it’s on the Vortec site

^ Thanks Joe. Yeah, that is the painful part, the break in period. I remember when I supercharged my VR6 and I was still in break in mode, a CRX pulled along side of me and took off. I just shook my head at the time. I was headed to my boy’s shop and when I get there the same CRX is out front talking about how VWs suck and he destroyed me on the way here. All I did was pop the hood and said “You never had a chance.” My boy just laughed and told the CRX kid that he wouldn’t be able to keep up. Of course it was all talk since I had no plans of pushing the car since I had not reached 500 miles yet… :frowning:

first off I hate you… just want you to know that… second off we can be friends again… you just have to brake in the car and get us some sweet footage… I think that would mend the relationship.

SPEEDetc man wow sick install great work sounds great. Deffinitly take her easy for the first few laps. The blowers like a little brake in. I used to just slowly roll up threw the rpms. Nothing too fast. You will know right when you lean past say 45% throttle

all good and great video great install and great walk threw.

On a scale of 1-10 how hard was the install
On a scale of 1-10 how much did you do your self
On a scale of 1-10 how would you gague your mechanical abilitys

I Think this sould be heklpfull to anyone looking to do the same thing.

Hater gonna hate… lol Yeah, we cool Chris!! I will get vids up after it is broken in. I will definitely be taking it easy.

Thanks!! It was fun to do.

I am running out the door, but I will come back in a bit to answer the scale questions.

Edit: I’m back!!

  1. How hard was the install - I would say the install is a 6. It isn’t difficult, but there are a lot of steps. Just be prepared to cut up your car and be OK with it (and have a steady hand). And make sure you have the right tools available.
  2. How much did you do your self - 7 to 8. I did most of the install, but I did have some help from some of my boys. One has a steadier hand than I and took care of the cutting. Another took care of the finishing up the AC lines when I had to head out one of the days. And of course, having an extra hand to help hold, move, adjust, bounce ideas off of, etc is always a plus.
  3. How would you gague your mechanical abilitys - 7. I not a trained mechanic, but I have been working on cars for a long time, even before I could drive thanks to my old man. Also, I have a Computer Engineering background, so I know enough to be dangerous… lol

can you explain the cutting. Is it cutting or trimming. I didn’t see anything that looked like big cutting. Im excited that this might be available for the B6 A4 as we have the same car just different motors. Can you please get more specific about this.

Cut is a strong word. It is more trimming and notching with a bit of hammering. The lip on the inner fender well where the hoses run needs to be notched and the metal hammered down so there is room. The core support also needs to be trimmed for the belt.

DAMN DUDE, Props to you. Great job and thanks posting all this up for everyone to see.

great work speed, definitely a great looking kit. I can’t wait for the vids after break in.

Way to go! Thanks for sharing and keeping your build up to date and showing us pics/videos throughout your S/C adventure.

Be sure to triple check yourself and dont end up with too many extra bolts

Thanks guys!! 425 miles to go…

LOL… I hear ya. I went over everything so many times to make sure all was good before driving.

Its no Supercharged MK3 VR6  but i guess it will do 8). Wish i had known you guys were firing it up would have been there.

with a easy 75miles could you feel the difference how was it.

Nope, definitely not an SC VR6 :). I was actually the only one there for the first start. ATW came in after I had it running for a few minutes.

Yes, there is a difference. At part throttle the pull is stronger than pre SC. You can tell that the car just wants to go. Of course, the response is instantaneous.

In regards to noise, the kit is pretty stealthy. With everything back together the sound of the blower is relatively quiet. A trained ear will know that something is there, but most people will not have a clue. Inside the car it is more noticeable. It isn’t an intrusive noise, but more an addition to the mechanical symphony. Nothing like a Paxton Novi on a Mustang…

Congrats on getting it done. I bet those are going to be the hardest 425 more miles you will have driven in a while.

^ Agreed, Ive driven Jays S/C car so I know hes gonna shit his pants in amazingness when he puts it to the wood.

Having only been in 1 SC’d car Jag XKR with the 5.0 and it was brutal, I can only imagine what this kit would be like.

I would have found a nice 1000 mile round trip. Bumbled down the first 500 sat down had something to eat and then smashed the 500 mile return trip

lol - Yeah, it is going to be tough. Back in the day I used to do road trips, but that isn’t happening now. I am just taking scenic routes.

What a great excuse for more pictures and videos
