My build log

Never mind on the Crank lock. I started reading through Justin’s old engine build thread and found it. LOL, I must have spent 20 minutes looking through forums and googling it and couldn’t find it. In my off time at work =, I’m reading through a random thread and boom, there it is. Lol. I have the motor basically sitting on the spot that I need to put that lock into, hence why I couldn’t find it.

You can see on the pic above that the guide is wallowing out and probably about to break.

Question. Does anybody have any idea why this is like this??

Im glad I kept reading I was going to post the pin location after reading your one post. The other way to check it is to know the number 2 pistion is TDC odd but helpful if your in a pinch

As for the check valves. If you pulled the oil filter housing off and you see standing oil there is no need to spend the money or to replace them there fine.

That guide breaks like clock work and the top one did look on its way out.

The spacers are used to keep proper distance when tightning down the sprockets and timing components. It goes inbwtween to make sure there is no gap.

Respect on all the hard work done so far!

Thank You. I’ve done a bunch of work to engines and cars all my life but nothing this intensive so it’s a learn as you go type thing for sure. But to be honest, it’s not nearly as complicated as it seems from the pictures, IMO. Keeping track of all the nuts and bolts and labeling them is probably the hardest part about it, just making sure to stay on top of it instead of all of sudden looking down and seeing a bunch of bolts you took off sitting in a pile. Lol

Question, Justin. You say to have cylinder 2 at TDC?? From what I read elsewhere it says to have cylinder 8 at TDC, which is what I did. Is that correct?. The cam locks are in and the crank pulley lines up so I thought I was good? Can you help me understand this?

Thank You

Couldn’t agree more as I have torn into mine. I just hope I labeled everything correctly when Im trying to put it back together after a year… lol

Not sure anyone is following this thread at this point but I’ll keep updating it I guess for future reference.

Update today. Ran into a few big issues.

I’ll just put these here for you to say WTF!!

It was like that as I took the cover off but upon closer inspection you can see copper and more importantly, broken copper strands.
But there more.
Someone has definitely been in here before and that some one has never heard of a torque wrench.

This bolt snapped off clean at 1/8 of a turn. So someone cranked it in there.
Yes, there more.

Woah! That bolt was already mangled prior to me starting on it but it’s on there so tight I mangled it more in my futile attempt to get it off. So there’s that.
I had plans to get the rear covers back on today but I now have a few important battles too fight first.

Not sure how to edit so I’ll just post. That goop you see was there prior as well. Someone must have been in there a long time ago prior to JHM coming out with the sprockets and the metal guide being a thing. Disappointing day to say the least.

I think lots of people are following this. You can see the page views going up and up. I think most people dont know what to say. Your doing an incredible job this car really needs someone like you. I know I might have said that before but I think that will have to be my goto post over and over and over.

I think this really a rolling post on just how not careful some shops are. You can see the car has been serviced by several shops that just didnt care. It also shows just how much time you need to put into building aftermarket parts for the car.

I enjoy your updates and seeiing just how much work you have on your hands to get this car back up and running right.

Mine did the same exact thing. I don’t think its from being cranked in there. I ordered a new one and it comes with locktite on it. I was able to drill mine out carefully and used a bottoming tap to clean the threads. I will need to double check but I believe I used 9/64 and 13/64 drill bits. Use a punch to get a center point on the broken bolt. Then drill with the 9/64 and finish with the 13/64. It should pull out most of what will be left of the bolt.

No moleste!!!

Glad you saved this car from further abuse and neglect. That’s some top notch PO fuckery.

I’m following along :+1:t2: Glad to see the car in the right hands. +karma

Don’t! Stop!

This is a great FAQ on What Not To Do. Ever.

Plus you get the empathy/sympathy/transferred karma of quite a few of the rest of us as you go.

Plus 10, keep it up. This is great!

A lot of us are too busy to post but I enjoy reading your updates.

I’ll just add in agreement to the above said, as I’m following as well. Keep it up, don’t stop! POs really fucked it up on this one. Once you’re done though, it’ll be quite rewarding to say the least.

Ty I dont know if any of this will be helpful but the good laugh is the part about how the car was maintaned.

It has a lot of the mods on the car in the quoted first post. I dont know if that is helpful or not. Just thought I would share. Worst case you can see what the car was going for just a few years ago.
