Cool project. Have you taken it to the strip yet?

not yet. it’s on the list. i wanted to go this week.

I don’t get this…

How does a stock S4 have headers and full exhaust?

Those dyno numbers are typical of a stock S4. Headers S4 with tune and exhaust tends to push up to 300-320 WHP and similar torque.

Well if you have JHM headers and a full 2.5" catback…likely FI, you’re likely JHM tuned.

Considering we all know that a JHM tuned header car would make more power than that…I’d say that comparison is bogus…or that car has shit knockoff headers and likely a knockoff catback. If the owner was too cheap to tune it, we also know the stock tune combined with those headers could potentially make less power than a healthy ‘completely’ stock S4.

q_dubz, I thought you were building the motor?

Sorry for the confusion. That was indicating that no other modifications were performed except for the exhaust.

so the car was stock with just a catback?
weird that it made more torque than hp…did you guys dyno the same day?

We can guess all day about that car but in the end that’s all it would ever be.

Euroswagr, i have a spare sitting in my spare bedroom. I’ll get to that next year.

stock w/ headers and catback was what i gathered. Maybe i misunderstood and it was just from the headers back, oh well. Not dyno’d the same day.

My S4 dynoed 260 horsepower and torque completely stock on a dynojet. Haven’t taken it back after installing the SC and everything else though. Something seems really off on your numbers.

…dynojet…

…dyno…

(aka that means FUCK ALL)

looking forward to acceleration numbers. That’s why we modify our powertrain isn’t it…? To go faster?

p.s. you realise a mustang dyno is the easiest to manipulate right?

[quote]Mustang dynos always read low? Really? AMS Performance shows how to do dyno manipulation on their Mustang Dyno

Dyno numbers. Oh how we all love dyno numbers. Used for bragging rights on automotive forums around the world and everyone wants those big numbers. Those big numbers should come with hard work, sweat, and, well, a bit of money. But some people mess up using dynographs as a comparison tool for the rest of us by inflating their numbers. That can’t happen you say? Well, recently a ‘1300+’ wheel horsepower M6 was a prime example of dyno manipulation and AMS essentially shows how it is done to perfection on their Mustang dyno in the video below.

For comedic value AMS decided to use a Nissan Sentra. They set a weak baseline on the Mustang. Then a set of “upgrades” is claimed and some audio is changed and suddenly the Mustang reads out 410 at the wheels and 360 pound-feet of torque at the wheels. For the next run AMS states the motor is built, more boost, and they use an F1 or Indy soundtrack (nice touch guys!) while filming the stock engine bay.

The result? 660 wheel horsepower. The exact same car yet very different results simply by manipulating the software. From 160 wheel to 660 wheel by pressing a few buttons? Yep.

The drag strip can not lie like this. It can be leveraged with good weather in certain locations, sure, but it won’t blatantly lie. For those who say Mustang dynos always read low, that is not always the case depending on how the dyno is setup. Take those dyno numbers with a grain of salt.

Eh, the calibrator was complaining about it reading low but I didn’t care. All the complaining about dynos is one reason that I haven’t taken my car back. Other people like Slow4 and R&CS4 took their B6 S4s to the same dyno with mods too. You really need to take your car to the dragstrip.

Didn’t you used to live near Washington DC? I remember that from AZ for some reason.

Do these numbers seem outlandish, unreasonable and/or manipulated to you? How about anyone else? Assuming it was just an s4 with downpipes and catback without any other evidence to the contrary, how far off does it seem given the vast history of dynojet vs mustang dynos and similar?

It’s alright, i posted some acceleration times to compare as well and asked if anyone had a vbox i could verify with in central fl. The tried and true 1/4mi will come in due time.

My father is down in central fl. Where about are you? He also has a Vbox

Melbourne/Cocoa area. It’s so boring here lol

It is warm though!

can’t argue THERE!

Remote turbo to air to water intercooler…I like it!

Nice to see someone do something creative and outside the box on this platform.

Can’t wait to see your vbox/1/4 numbers!

Gotcha, he is in Lakeland between Tampa and Orlando.
