My friend's 2007 S6 V10

Good friend of mine got this car about 2 years ago. he’s not that into cars so you won’t see him posting a thread, but I sure as hell will.

First mod it got was an exhaust. I don’t have any pics of when it got done unfortunately. The entire catback was replace with just 2.5" piping and 2 Magnaflow mufflers. The tips are 3.5" each. Exhaust was made by trexturk.

About a week after that, I detailed it. No before pictures but let me tell ya…this thing was in sad shape. The rear bumper, front bumper, left rear door, and almost the entire passenger side has been re-sprayed. Th left rear door was done by a complete hack, there is bubbles, sanding marks, the works, and I couldn’t really bring it back to life. The rest of the stuff that had been painted was actually pretty good, just some sanding marks in the areas that the bodyman was too lazy to polish.

here are some post-correction pics. No wax/sealant in these pics because it was dark by the time I finished.

Interior wasn’t bad. Leather Masters for the seats, Adams carpet cleaner on the carpet, Einszeit Cockpit Premium on pretty much everything else

Fast forward about a year…He tells me he’s getting a flashing CEL. The car is still under warranty so he takes it to the dealer and they tell him it’s carbon. Dealer wants $2400 to do the service. I told him I’ll do it and make a DIY for the Audi guys (in the works).

So I ordered all the necessary gaskets from JHM. Ordered 2 K&N drop-in air filters as well. Also replaced the spark plugs with OEM NGK’s

Took the IM off and this is what I found…bad bad bad

Then I got to cleaning…Each port takes about 30mins to do both valves.

All clean!

K&N’s installed

Gave it a quick wash and a coat of this new stuff Chemical Guys sent me free - Hybrid V7 spray sealant…I iz impressed. Also threw on a tinted front plate cover I had laying around

Video time?
Here is a cold start before the carbon cleaning. To be honest it doesnt really sound much different after the carbon cleaning. Just a little more smooth and the starts are shorter.
And yes…cold starts sound that badass and they are always that loud

Here is a 0-60 after the cleaning. About 5 second for the first few runs…then it gets heatsoaked and gets slow

Here is a video I made yesterday. About 1000 miles since the cleaning has been done.

That is all for now. Next up is a JHM tune and maybe, just maybe, gutted cats and a 3" x-piped catback

it’s not a tiny forced induction engine being wrung within an inch of it’s life so it’s a fail

lol

cool car. Would love to see one with 3" exhaust (or 2.75…what’s the redline?), no cats, some rotating mass freed up and a JHM tune. Car would I’m sure threaten 500 hp and run mid 12s without any trouble. Not bad for a 193 inch long luxury cruiser. I like the S6. Cool car. VERY underappreciated by the ‘if it’s not forced induction it’s a fail’ crowd who don’t understand the benefits of NA engines, and whose budgets won’t afford them the luxury of a car that comes badass out of the box.

p.s. holy mother fking carbon

I wonder if there’s anything that you could do to the surface of the valves etc. to limit carbon buildup from attaching itself to it. i.e. a slightly rough surface helps things bond to it. A smoothe polished surface does not. I’ve never been inside one of these FSI motors so not sure what it’s like stock.

In for the JHM tune results. I like the S6 but lets be honest its kinda a pig…look its a sexy car and very exciting I just think it needs some love to unlock whats really hiding in there power wise. I think this should be one of the most impressive power unlocks. :stuck_out_tongue:

Great job on the clean looks sweet

on the other hand Im so not upset I don’t own a FSI CAR

joe can you take a few seconds and show us how this looked before you installed the k&n filters. I find it odd that this would be the filter replacement. I don’t think the surface area looks big enough for 2.3L. I know its a picture so I don’t get a real good understanding on how big the filters are. I just thought I might have found a little more room for power in the filters

let alone 2.6

I really do want to see what can be done for these cars. I love the V10 and the added space, but I definitely don’t want to deal with the carbon and the added cylinders.

I’m still intrigued about the idea of the possible carbon fix, and the JHM tune on this bad boy.

Although I still do want to see how a tuned 3.0T A6 would fair against a properly running tuned S6.

Yup, that’s the little filter and really, that’s th biggest that could possibly fit. There’s a lot of real estate between the grille and condenser so a ram air would be feasible

Here it is right next to the stocker:

tuned A6 3.0T seems to run high 12s, low 13s. a.k.a. what an S6 runs stock. Unfortunately dragtimes.com has nothing on there (2 S6 times of 13.8 and 14.0 and 1 A6 3.0T time of 14.5 lol)

No these things are more in the high 13’s-14 for the 1/4 mile.

that’s probably what you’ll see people run, but with a good driver in good DA they should run low 13s.

road and track 13.5

My S4 with 2.5" catless + 2.5" catback + JHM tune ran 12.9…but that ham fisted guy with the yellow B6 on EA with the same mods ran 14+.

Any update on this Joe? I’m assuming he hasn’t been tuned yet?

Nope not yet. He’s had it down at college and it came back with a big coolant leak. Already replaced the cracked coolant tank and it’s still leaking somewhere, but with how tight things are in that engine bay, you can’t see any of the lines

Did you take the opportunity to take a look in the intake manifold? tb? if so do you think the are something to gain porting?

Thanks.

That stuff is over my head. It’s got pretty large dual TB’s. I’d compare it to the rs4. Most gains would probably be on the exhaust end. It has the intake tumblers, but they move completely out if the way when the motor moves out of vac. They move into a recess on the intake port so there’s no obstruction.

OK, so there is a little to non gain by porting the intake manifold… or tb . good info.
Regards

It definitely wouldn’t hurt to run some boost in that engine… just saying.

I would love to see a jhm C6 S6 program.

I was talking to CV on the phone a month ago and he was tearing through diagrams of that v10 motor and had tons of great ideas to make power. Fingers crossed that JHM buys one.

Would be sweet, but i doubt it due to the market. This is probably behind B6 S4 > B7 RS4 > B8 S5 > B8 S4

I would say Q7 4.2 or S6/S8 V10 will happen before B8 S4

Especially because JHM and APR have a great relationship, I think they will stay out for a while. I don’t see why it doesn’t happen soon, it’s becoming relatively easy, financially, to acquire one. Why not!?
