My frist weekend away in the s6

So it was a nice 4 day weekend so i decided to head off to the south of Ireland with my girlfriend to the beautiful county of Kerry. 4 hour drive with a couple of short stops. The car is very comfortable on the open roads, however i did notice vibration through the steering between 120kmh and 140kmh. My first assumption is the wheels need to be re-balanced, so that will be my first port of call.

After that I’m not sure what to get checked if thats not the issue. Does anyone know is there could be any other causes for this? Any bushings in the suspension? Wheel bearings? any common issues that could cause this problem

The low oil light did come on after about 350kms so it used a bit on the way down, I topped that up before the return trip so all is good with that.

I also got the chrome window trim wrapped last week and also the trunk lid strip and Black ring emblems. I also got a medium tint on the rear windows.

Im not too sure on the black rear emblem or black strip on the rear so i may get that reverted. next on my list is to decided on wheels and lowering options.

Also the drone off the non-resonated Milltek was a bit much at times so i may put the resonators back in to see how that changes the sound

All comments or suggestions welcomed

Great pics!

when you really look at it the S6 is a great looking car. The stance and over all demensions are fantastic. add in that motor and its hard to say its not something special. that second pic I just had to download. thats desk top material

As for the oil. The PCV system on these cars really pull in oil and eat it over long mid rpm range driving.

The vibration usually when you see it during certian RPM ranges or speed ranges it signals that its rototational and the rims and tires are the first things to look at.

My dws tires are at about 5/32nd’s and make my car shimmer just enough. Bent rim will do it. I would look at tires as well. If they are wearing uneven then maybe an alignment, control arms are needed.

Nice, I drove my s6 fairly hard, and the oil light only flipped on once, and that was after w long spirited drive, I asked dealer and they oil was perfectly level, and it was finicky light, so id say it barely used any oil on very well maintained motor etc.

I’m looking to get the chrome wrapped in black like yours. My car is black so the rear won’t stand out as much when it’s wrapped. Lovely looking pics! Did you get the windows tinted or is that a factory option?

Btw true s6 is a great grand tourer, very underrated imo! I’m sure you think the same. I’m sure the seats treated you will, still my favourite seats for sporty driving from a support and hold you in your place perspective.

Windows were only recently tinted, in a medium tint on the rears, nothing on the front. I’m not sure I like the black on the trunk. Maybe I should have gone with Matt instead of gloss trim wrap. I’ll see how it all looks after a good detail!

Yes she is comfy for sure, but I have already gotten used to the power, she is a big heavy car so not the best handling car on right twisty roads compared to my old Subaru. Still love the v10 noise!!

Add some coil overs and I think you’ll be surprised. Also summer tires and all control arms if they haven’t been. And more aggressive alignment. After I did most of it t handled ridiculous for its weight.also it will never be great on tight turns but on long sweepers and nice country roads it was still impressive, and better than my legacy gt

im still undecided on the suspension, im worried about coilovers being even less uncomfortable than the standard setup

Is there upgraded control arms or just replace with some fresh ones? i have only seen kits from Meyle for example for the fronts

Coilovers are a nice add on you but your right they can make the ride worse in some cases. Is there anyway you can find out the specs on the shocks and springs for the stock S6 suspension and then compare to the available aftermarket options. For control arms Meyle is a good brand and a good option for replacement parts

Actually stock s6 is fairly stiff. Overall better dampening and fine tuning with coil overs. U might even feel it smoother on some roads. You could upgrade shocks but I’d prefer to do like kW v3 or h&r pm v8a6 he has h&r and likes them.

You will be surprised if you refresh your control arms stock suspension and slightly more aggressive alignment and true summer tires.

Great point VTGT a good freshning of the actual bushings and control arms can really wake up the suspension

Just had the oil light flip on yesterday for the first time since I’ve owned the car. Checked the oil when getting gas, and It was right where it should be. Started the car this morning and it hasn’t been on since. So yeah, I’d agree the light is really finicky.

Mine was actually at the low mark when checked, so it worked as intended in this case.

Seems like the Bilstein B14 kit is well priced and available locally, does anyone know the axle load rating i should check for when buying some coilovers? as i know some kits are advertised for the 4.2 and not 5.2 but should still have the same fitment and spring loading etc.

Really nice photos and sweet ride, I like the nose.

I recently had the KW V3 Coilover kit fitted on my 07 S6 ( I think it’s the only UK S6 with it on?) and with the factory settings its a bit firmer than the existing set up that had a 100k miles on them, but its certainly not uncomfortable however the transformation of the cars handling is remarkable it’s gone from being a fast barge to a really chuckable sports saloon car.

This ;). What Spring rates?

I had v3s on another car and lived them. Transformational for sure

I will say I am interested how they compare to the h&r coil overs and perhaps an aggressive strut like ohlina or bilsteins. Perhaps similar. I think h&r is a touch softer Spring rate compared to kw but like you said its firmer in a good way not necceaaeily jarring or uncomfortable.

I’m afraid I don’t know what the spring rates are but they’re part of the kit.
The original suspension was very crashy and now it’s not.
Ohlin’s if they do any shocks for the car will be very very expensive, the V3 is 3 way adjustable however I haven’t played around yet but I would have thought that you could adjust them to how you like.
