Thanks again bud, if youâre around on Sunday, steaks are on me. Literally just got off the phone with Kurt, post as many photos as you want to help out rs4fan.
Red = to positive live with fused wire
Blue = to temperature sensor on rad - splice with top pin/wire with red stripe
Yellow = to green on the pump
Green = shared earth/negative with pump
Chargecooler Pump -
Green = to yellow on relay
Brown = earth/Negative/Black
Thanks, figured that out studying those picâs again. Not sure about the relay though, is that something additional I need to purchase or was it suppose to be part of the kit? Anyone knows?
That relay should be included. Its got to be kinda hard because you dont really know all the parts that come in the kit as this isnt a big release of the product yet.
I know the shipping guys at JHM wrap parts up even the little ones very very well. After you have looked in all of the little bits of paper contact JHM and let them know whats missing they are usually very good about getting stuff out quickly if they missed something or if you need something.
Let me know what you guys need or any questions. like I said I just got done working on the exact same thing guy guys are doing so Im happy to help if i can
Ok, thanks, I went through everything in that parcel again to make sure I havenât missed anything and at this stage the only thing that I could tell thatâs missing is the Relay & Wire loom which I picked up from the photos JHM send me. I did point that out to Jake so I am sure he will get that looked at and send out to me soon.
As mentioned, the fact that you donât know exactly what need to be in the kit makes it kinda hard to know if everything is in the box :-\
Justin, do you have or know anyone with any pics of the Water Reservoir installed in a RS4? To my knowledge itâs only Denis running the 1+ on a RS4 so not sure if anyone else have a pic available? I did send denis a mail for a pic but so far havenât heard anything back from him.
I can see if Ihave any pictures of the reservoir on the JHM rs4 stage 2 car that was out here a few years ago. But from what I remember its the same spot and configuration as the B6 and B7 S4.
The only difference if im remembering this right is that maybe you have to move the charge post⊠or the jump post whatever you want to call it. I never installed that part of the kit on the RS4 I just remember it was the same as on the S4. Did that help or was that not what you were looking for
That definitely help, I figured I will have to move something given the location of the positive battery charge point as shown by the large yellow oval in below pic. My other big concern is whether the tank will fit underneath the 2nd ECU and I might have to lift or move it, or both, in the direction of the yellow arrow to get the clearance I need. And to just throw another unknown into the mix mine is RHD so not sure what role that will play if any.
From speaking to Jake, the Ecu sits on top on the tank. We have to lose the brackets that hold it in place from my understanding. Regarding the Charge post, thats a new one on me having to move it. I know the S4 setup is slightly different to ours in that they have to move the battery etc to the trunk/boot whereas we dont. Also judging from the mock ups ive done it looks like we wouldnt have to move it although not 100% sure as i have next to nothing in the engine bay right now.
Rudi, have you started on the install? I wont get to start until next week.
Also anyone that has done the SAI delete with blanking plates, what happens to the solonoid etc?? should be it removed?
Ok, thanks, will see how that Water tank works out when I get going.
I havenât started as yet, you would probably finish before me, I will only start with stripping around middle December.
With regards to the SAI, just removed the complete pump etc. as per the instructions and plug the existing solenoid back into the harness else it will throw a fault code.
Ok, with the Stage 1+ kit waiting and ready to be installed I decided to finish this thread off with some last comments and will start a new thread for the 1+ install.
When I started out down this path one of my goals, apart from wanting to do the install myself, was to measure the improvements the Stage 1 provided over stock. There are multiple ways to do that but in my situation the easiest and simplest was to do before and after runs on the same Dyno at more or less the same time of day and conditions with the same operator. So, we all know how Dynoâs can be manipulated and how the one differs from the other etc. but for my situation this provided me with some sort of a yard stick to measure how the kit stacked up against expectations and claimed figures. Also, the operator had no skin in the game so he had nothing to gain or loose by messing with the results. I know the 1/4 mile is the only true test but my intention never was to take it to the track and as we all know JHM and other owners have proofed what itâs capable of already. Itâs something I might still do but itâs not that important to me personally.
Keep in mind that our Dynoâs show KW and I have converted that to HP figures which makes more sense to most on the forum.
So before I stripped the car down I had it carbon cleaned and the result of the Dyno was an acceptable 236Wkw / 316Whp / 360Nm. Sort of in the ball park for a healthy stock RS4 at altitude.
So post Stage 1 I went back and we did 2 pulls with no cooling down in between. First pull produced the highest reading of 318Wkw / 426Whp / 459Nm. The 2nd run gave 307Wkw / 411Whp / 452nm so as we all know, heat soak is a power killer. Would be interesting to see the results for the same run sequence ones the charged cooler is installed.
So in conclusion, JHM claims on their website that you can expect gains of between 80-100Whp. I donât know under which conditions or altitude those figures are true, all I know is that according to my tests I gained 109Whp at altitude so to say I am happy is an understatement, I am super stoked ;D ;D
Thanks to everyone reading, commenting and I am looking forward getting the 1+ install underway.
the dyno is fine to use as a tool. Many great tuners use it for various functions, as do many of the automakers.
Where it gets sketchy is when people use the dyno as the only tool in order to sell stuff. Thatâs just silly. Or when a dyno operator tweaks it to make a customer feel better etc. It just becomes useless. Youâre not selling anything. Youâre a damn customer, so go nuts!
As proof of concept we prefer acceleration, as you mentioned. However on that, the ground work and âproofâ has already been shared by many before you. So if the dyno works and you trust it, have at it.
Good to see your results right where they should be. Those numbers might be corrected slightly pr that dyno may be calibrated so that altitude results it posts are similar to sea level dyno data. All that matters is
the delta
that you trust the data and the operator
Stage 1 + will be interesting. My prediction? Youâll gain another 40-60 whp. I donât know what JHM advertises but based on the cars that went stage 1+ trapping about 4-5 mph than the average stage 1 car, that makes sense.
Great numbers he got there!
Yea you are correct he will gain about 40/60 whp , and that will make a great difference when you drive it, you can definitely feel the extra power! If we could find a way to make even cooler would be even better:)
Post some videos of your car doing some pulls:)
Yeah, canât wait to see those numbers! Another 40-60 whp doesnât sound like much but add that to what sheâs got and thatâs going to be insane. ;D
I will definitely post some vidâs, might only do that after the 1+ install though, going to start stripping in about a weeks time.
Thats one of the great things about JHM while other companys are over claiming on the hp and tq JHM actually usually under claims about there parts.
Is it ok if I take some of your data and repost it here. Given all the BS thats out there and how other companys are full of shit and on other websites there is nothing but drama and no information I think a nice clear results thread for your results here would be a good idea. Maybe even think about adding an update to your original post with the results as well. I know there are several threads proving over and over how good the JHM kit is getting one more good thread out there with clear results wouldnt be a bad idea IMHO
Justin, I have no problem with you sharing any of my data. As said, itâs all done to show my results and experience with the kit and as such I donât have to hide anything nor do I have to blow smoke up JHM backside. The kit and the results is what it is and thatâs it. Whatâs so great about this site is their is no drama and BS and the people appreciate the results for what it is as long as everything is in the open.
So, if I understood you correct you suggest that I update this thread as well with any further results even after the 1+ is installed? That would make sense so someone could see the results in both.
I am going to try and get a video of a 3-8k pull as well before I strip the car for the 1+ install and do the same after as a comparison.
