My next C5 project

Oh, man. I really couldn’t afford this purchase. At the same time, I couldn’t let it go. Found a 2002 Audi S6 with a blown trans and high mileage. The body and interior however, are in excellent shape. And the paint is the very rare Pearlescent White (I think it is rare, anyway), and it looks awesome with the Black Alacantara interior. So, it will be sitting in my driveway until I figure out what to do about the trans. Obviously, another 6speed swap is the most likely choice. But first, I have to see what is going on with the engine. If it is not in great shape, then I may look for a manual 2.7t donor car and swap in the entire drivetrain.

Was this on kijiji recently? Would be great for a 6sp swap!

Yup. Kijiji is where I found it.

You’re right. Perfect candidate for a 6speed swap. Have to pull the codes tonight to see exactly what is wrong.

How cheap was it?

They were asking $3900. I talked them down to $3700 all in. When I got there for a test ride and found the trans blown, I told them the most I could give them was $2000. They refused that day. Next day we talked again and ended up with $2300 all in, including taxes and everything. At that price I couldn’t pass it up.

OK, so I filled it up with G12 coolant, and it sucked it down pretty quick. I could smell coolant burning from inside the car, so it could be the head gasket is blown.

When you restart the car, the trans goes back to normal mode. But, as soon as you push on the gas, and the engine revs up without moving, you get a loud ‘clunk’ that shakes the car, and you go into limp mode.

Car seems to idle smooth enough.

Ill pull the codes in a bit and see what the ECU has to say.

That’s retarded cheap. Is it over a million miles?

You should get in touch with count vohn. He has a soft spot for those belt 4.2 cars. Knows them inside fucking out too.

Nice man. Very cheap pickup. We have been looking at c5 s6 and allroads to replace our b5 s4 avant. Jealous!

323 000km or about 200000 miles. However, interior is MINT, aside from a bit of wear on various buttons. Body is great too. There are a couple dents on the front fenders, but no rust in the wells, or anywhere else I could see.

I was chatting a couple weeks ago to Count Vohn about my A6. He is BEYOND helpful. And like you said, an absolute Guru when it comes to these cars. Sooner or later, Ill definitely be making a trip down to meet him in one of the C5s.

My wife just made me promise not to turn the S6 into another ‘undriveable’ project car. LOL. I reminded her that she has her Toyota Echo, which is great on gas

End ---------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks dude. It was cheap, but definitely needs some major work.

nice pick up, for the price thats hard to pass on. after you add coolant can you see it leaking anywhere? maybe pull the bellypan off and put a piece of plain cardboard underneath the motor, start it and let it idle then check the carboard for spots

Still. I am always impressed and excited when folks pick up a car like this and bring it back to life. Good luck.

Good idea. Ill see if I can try that this weekend in the driveway if the snow melts.

the seats and wheels and bumpers are worth $2000. Great pickup.

I was just going to say…

Worst case, strip it and profit or get your money back at a minimum.

Yeah, that was the backup plan. The interior, wheels, headlights, bumpers, fenders, sport steering wheel, hood, and S6 specific engine parts, pretty much had me covered if I got buyers remorse.

However, now that I have the car, and have checked it over more thoroughly, I definitely wont be parting it out. It is very clear that the previous owner(s) took VERY good care of it. The body and interior could pass for a car with less than half the mileage. And the suspension, brakes, wheels, tires, etc, all seem to be in great shape.

It is going over to Twins Auto Works early next week for them to check it out. There is a reasonable, but small, chance that the coolant leak and trans issue are relatively easy/cheap fixes, according to Chris. Regardless, Ill have them check it over and see what they come back with.

Cool, best of luck.

Sell it to me for 3k, I will have it picked up this week. Looking for an easy way out on my project car, I don’t want to have to do paint this year and would love to swap all my gear into this shell

Sorry, Im keeping it for myself
