It’s a pretty new car still. Best stock time I saw was in the 13.3 range @107. Stock they are rated at 329hp/354tq. All the C400’s here are AWD. However, they only cut a 2 second 60’ on that 12.6 pass. I thought it would be close to S4 times with a twin turbo 3 liter V6 and similar specs to the S4 out of the box. It also weighs 250 pounds less at around 2750 lbs. Not sure what’s up, but it looks like the C400 has already been replaced by the C450 this year so the C400 didn’t last long… It looks like the same car, but they added the “AMG” moniker and it’s rated at 362hp.
EDIT: Actually, it was the C450 that did the 12.6 at 111.
The RE-71 is new. It’s mostly a replacement for the RE-11. By all accounts the RE-71 is great and wears evenly, but it does wear pretty fast on heavy cars when driven aggressively.
I think I’m showing my age here-I was hearkening back to the old RE71 that came OEM on Gen 2 & 3 RX-7’s - clearly I’ve been out of the loop for a long time- thanks for the update
I didn’t realize you were running a 245. It’s interesting that they list a 3 lb. difference between the 245 and 255, and most likely neither is exactly right. In terms of tire weight, I wouldn’t take what tire rack lists as the gospel, but it does give a good indication as to how various tires stack up in terms of weight.
Yep, 245s… 1.5x on 245 street tire is lol… I had one weighed by the place that sold them to me and they were right under 23lbs… My setup was 47lbs total and bbs are 24ish lbs… Thinking about some real LW 19s any ideas? Priorities are weight, looks, cost…
My S4 is still running winters on 18" forgestar CF-5s. These will likely become my daily or track tire wheel when I turn in the C63. 20 lbs and looks good with 18s and really, getting 18" competition tires in this size is a breeze and is the better performer for the street, track and strip.
On a reasonably priced 19" wheel you probably aren’t going to get anything below 21 lbs. The Renn-Motorsport wheels are under $1000, and around 21 lbs. Tire rack has a set of Advanti wheels (HY somethings) that are also 21 lbs.
To get much less than that, I think you’d be looking at a 1-piece forged wheel that will easily get into the $4000 range or higher.
I’ve personally had a couple bad experiences with iForged/Forgestar, and their wheels almost always end up weighing more than they say they will (still pretty light, but just not as light as they start off saying). Overall, they are (or can be) good wheels, they just suck as a company.
I had finish issues on a set of iForged wheels, which they did warranty, but dealing with them was hell. My brother had a set of Forgestars, and two were damaged in an accident and it was literally impossible to get replacements in any reasonable time (at 6 months he gave up). My only advice on Forgestars is to deal with a reputable vendor that does a lot of business with them if you go that route. I would never deal with Forgestar directly.
There is another 19" flow formed wheel I saw recently that I liked. I think it was the MRR FS01. The 19x9.5" was around 22 lbs. I just don’t know if that is light enough to justify moving away from the BBS wheels Ron is already running with. The 19x8.5" TSW Nurburgring (and Bathurst and Interlagos) wheels are also around 21 lbs. Another good cheap option.
Cliffnotes version of 19" lightweight inexpensive wheels:
Renn-Motorsport RS-51 (19x8.5" is 20.5 lbs, 19x9.5" is around 21-22 lbs.)
Advanti HY on Tire Rack (19x8.5" is 21 lbs.)
MRR FS01 (19x9.5" is 22.3 lbs.)
TSW Nurburgring/Inerlagos/Bathhurst (19x8.5" is 21.4 lbs., 19x9.5" is around 22.5 lbs.)
VMR V710FF (19x8.5" is 22.6 lbs., 19x9.5" is 23.2 lbs.)
VMR V803 (19x8.5" is 21.8 lbs., 19x9.5" is 23.4 lbs.)
OZ Leggera HLT (19x9" is 22 lbs.)
I’m sure there are others. I’ll update this list when I have some time to dig around (or maybe I’ll start a thread).
Yeah, if I switch it will be a forged wheel… Would like 19s but consider 18s… Would love a similar style to what I have but forged and 6-7lbs per less… Also, like the rs4 style, or something oemish… Not removing the brembos either…
Interesting…yeah I got these ones used for a helluva deal, and haven’t had problems yet. Will want a wider set of 18s if I can. Got a list of what else fits over 380 brembos?
Mostly just custom forged wheels. Almost every cast 18" wheel has too much material inside of the wheel face to clear. The CF5 is literally the only non-forged wheel I know of that fits for sure. Anything else, you’d want to check against a template. I’m sure there are some out there, but no one has tried others to my knowledge.
I know BC Forged wheels claims their 18" mono-forged wheels clear up to a 380mm kit. Those are still probably in the $3500 range, and are going to be the most reasonably priced forged wheels. I’ve had mine for 3+ years with no issues. Obviously, something like HRE, Forgeline, etc. can come up with something that fits at a higher cost…
Personally I don’t like the Volks ones… I do like those Advan so I’ll have to look into them… I think I’m going to get something though… I love the BBS’s but I could use a change and I know I can get a good chunk back for the BBS’s as they’ll sell easy and mine are still mint more or less…
Going to try to shave 100+ lbs off the car this winter in a legitimate manner…
Your real problem is that your current wheels are a perfect blend of look great, reasonably light , don’t cost 10,000.
Hard to beat really.
I like the forgestsr F14 but they’re only a lb or so lighter. Hre p40/m40 are same.
Stick with CHR.
You could buy a set of super light 18" enkeis or something (I’m talking 18 lbs) but you’d probably not like the way they look and couldn’t be bothered to swap around.
My philosophy is similar to yours. I can’t run ugly wheels because they’re light. I need a blend of aesthetics and weight and quality. This is why I have 2 sets of oem rs4 wheels. They weigh 26.5 lbs or so which sounds heavy but they’re 19x9.0" and they’re et29. If they were 19x8.5 et38 they’d probably only weigh 24.5.
Yep Saki, you pretty much summed it up… I want light but don’t want ugly and the CHR’s are a very good look with decent weight/cost especially with the titanium on my quartz car. I’m going to look long and hard before I pull the trigger that’s for sure… Yeah I don’t want multiple sets of wheels…
