Hey, I still want to be disproven…so who is this Nate guy from 034, tuning this B8. Someone else off the site was talking about getting tuned by 034, then I saw this, now I’m really curious.
Why not? google any of those platforms with “jhm” at the end, you’ll get answers pretty quickly. The only one I think people would argue is b5 s4 and b7 rs4, but all the other ones are kinda no-contest.
stage 2 B5 S4s
the GIAC and APR tuned records were low 13s to very high 12s at 105-108 mph
JHM tuned the B5 and Dan@JHM went 12.28 @ 112 mph (no APR or GIAC car ever came close)
K04 B5 S4s
the GIAC and APR tuned stage 3 cars went mid 12s to high 11s @ 114-118
JHM tuned the B5 K04 setups and ran 11.1 @ 129 MPH (no APR or GIAC car ever came close)
B6/7 S4s
the fastest GIAC or APR B67 S4 (naturally aspirated) was 13.21 @ 103 mph (APR car)
the fastest JHM tuned B67 S4 (naturally aspirated) was 12.70 @ 111 mph (no APR or GIAC car ever came close)
B8 S5
the fastest APR or GIAC B8 S5 (naturally aspirated) was 13.2 @ 103
the fastest JHM B8 S5 (naturally aspirated) was 12.60 @ 108 (no APR or GIAC car ever came close)
Want any more? Those gaps are massive. The average ET gap is 6 tenths. The average MPH gap is 8 MPH. A car that wins by about 5 tenths at the strip wins by about 5 car lengths. If they did a highway pull, that translates to about 8-10 lengths. All of those examples are greater than that difference.
you haven’t floated a thesis, so how can it be disproven?
you hinted that maybe JHM tuned the 034 car. I suggested it wouldn’t make much sense (they’re competitors after all). I also would note that 034 has been tuning (to a smaller degree) for years.
I think maybe the problem is that when JHM and 034 produced great results early, your ‘bar’ that you’re comparing them to is pretty low. GIAC and APR have never been class leading performance tuners. They’ve been big companies with big budgets who paid for the tuning tools and ECU cracking access before everyone else, thus were the main games in town for a couple of years while the other companies focused on other platforms. While APR was cracking the B8 S4 ECU in 2010-2011, JHM was busy dominating the 4.2 world. Now that APR is about to focus on the B9 S4 3.0turbo, JHM is getting ready to step into the B8. It’s always like this. On every historical performance platform, APR and GIAC have been lapped once other tuners like JHM get involved and focus on not just a tune or tune+intake, but rather embrace a platform and develop dozens of parts for it after doing deep dissection of a JHM owned shop car. See my recent post to danavon for examples
The fastest JHM B5 S4 results destroy GIAC and APR (B5 K03 record: Dan @ JHM; B5 K04 record).
The only faster K04 B5 is the car marc10secS4 drove. It had 1100 lbs of weight reduction and slicks. It had no interior (carpet, dash, door panels, gauges, seats, pillars, ceiling liner and most wires related to the luxury items were cut out to save weight). Is that really a comparison with Jason’s car with full interior, street tires etc? And after Jason you have another JHM car. Then another JHM car.
The fastest RS4s are the same thing. Fastest GIAC or APR NA RS4 went 12.56 @ 110. Fastest JHM car went 12.21 @ 113.5. That’s not even close. Want to see what 12.2 vs. 12.5 looks like? Enjoy. I got to watch this a few times that day. It’s killing my car. I went 12.57 almost the same as the gIAC car. Mistro went 12.29 @ 112.8 on this run, almost a full tenth and MPH slower than his best.
In my opinion, most of this data is not relevant. Take a stock car, dyno it, and then flash APR, dyno it, and then flash JHM and dyno it. The results will not be ‘shocking’ at least I can say from first hand experience on the b7 a4 because I had both GIAC and JHM on that car.
Going from a tuned 2.0t to a better tuned 2.0t the delta isn’t huge, compared to going from stock to tuned 2.0t, so yes in that instance the result isn’t shocking. But as I’m sure you experience the jhm tuned 2.0t was faster. In real world comparisons it’s been shown to be significantly faster.
Since you’re discrediting what is regarded as the most accurate measure of acceleration in the automotive world, you probably won’t get far here… Heads up lol.
I agree RE: the b5 s4 and B7 rs4 saki, I was just saying literally that people will argue those due to the 1/4 mile records of stripped and gutted cars from competitors.
Edit: let’s say you do the dyno you’ve proposed. and the non JHM car dynos 20whp higher. Does it matter? The JHM car will be faster.
If you felt like it was holding back, that is likely because of an issue with something on the car so the tune is dialing back to be safe. We have had customers switch from every tune available, all noticing improvements
who the fuck cares about dyno results lol were talking real world results… the ones that actually matter and the results that show JHM raping everyone. lol
