New guy

Hello, long time viewer first time poster…

I’m new to this forum but not to audi’s. I’m happy to have found this site. I have a 2007 s8 now with 96k on the clock. I have the infamous oil leak in the front of the engine. I’m going to try and Jack up the front to see if I can get oil to leak out.

It seems that there are a lot more s6’s then s8’s do I think I’ll be doing most my time in this section.

Looking forward in learning more about this engine.

Thats a good way to get an idea on where the sorce of the oil is comming from. If you havent already done so think about getting a carbon clean. Most previous owners seem to have not even done the clean. Its a good chance to also see the valley where to oil seals go bad. From there its a carbon clean stright shot. Toss in the JHM intake spacers while your at it to help keep the heat down and your good to go

Here are a couple pictures. She is about to go into winter mode. Which she is getting 19’s and hakka r2’s 255/40/19.

How long of a fix is the front oil leak? I know I need to opener her up to make sure but just trying to Gage if I keep it he way it is until next spring abd just keep adding oil.

Looking good! Love the s8

Love the S8 looks awesome.

Where are you located. There is a ton of V10 stuff going on now local to me. I cant post about it right now but lots of good stuff in the works. I have been doing lots of V10 maintenance to where Im looking to try and get a few DIY posts up.

As for getting to the oil leak. Depending on where its at and what it is it shouldnt be too hard. If its from the oil seals on the filter housing. You need to pull the intake. But if you pull the intake you really should consider doing a carbon clean

love those S8s. They’re just solid and awesome cars to be inside. So comfortable and well appointed. Beautifully designed too.

to figure out where the leak is, is it best to remove the fan and the radiator? So I should plan on doing a coolant flush? If the coolant doesn’t look faded/dirty can I reuse it?

This x2.

The D3 S8 is one of my favorite Audis. I had a purple one that I worked on at one of the dealerships that I worked at and it was always a good day whenever that car came in. Didn’t even care that I had torn the interior apart so many times to replace things like the sunroof, rear sunshade, etc.

It would probably be easier if you pull the intake manifold and/or move the front end into service position to find the oil leak.

Open you coolant tank and use a flashlight to look at the color of the coolant. If it looks orange then you should change it. If you have a multimeter handy then do a voltage reading of the coolant and if you see anything over 0.5 volts then flushing the coolant is long overdue. I know that it sounds weird to stick multimeter leads into coolant but the coolant wipes right off afterwards and isn’t a problem.

I’m really enjoying so far. I’ve I get the oil leak fixed I don’t think I’ll have to many issues except for the control arms.

I don’t have a meter to test it but I’ll get on Amazon and order one. I think I’m going to have to change it as when I got it in April I had to add some.

So if I have to change it, is it easier to remove the radiator to find the leak or just do the service position?

Justin, I’m in MN. Not sure where you are. We do have some really good Indy shops up here but most of them haven’t seen too many s6/8’s.

Lots of V10 stuff going on local here and Im excited to be a helping part of it. Everything from performance 3 inch exhausts to some performance parts testing. I cant say much more then that but exciting time for the Audi 5.2 V10. All of this is going on in michiagan so not too far from you

When jimmy gives advice its always solid advice. I 100% agree with jimmy. A good thing to start on is pulling the intake off and seeing whats going on down the valley. This will also give you a nice view of the front of the motor without needing to pull back the front core to service position.

Do I need new IM gaskets if I take it off to just check things out? Yeah Michigan isn’t too far. I’d be interested in seeing what you have coming for the v10

Some of the time they can be saved. You have to pull the intake and then see how it looks. Its possible to reuse them tho

perfect, thanks. I have tomorrow off so we will see if I can get to it then

This will be my first time attempting this so I want to make sure I have everything I need. I see the intake gasket is only $6. Do I need 10 of them? Also should I just replace the valve covers as long as long as I’m in there? I might sound special but I’m pretty good with tools once I get an idea of what everything I need.
It is just hard to run to the style when your car is in pieces.

Winter mode

Sorry I don’t know how I missed this.

Intake gasket wise if you get the jhm spacers they come with gaskets you can reuse your stock ones depending on what shape there in. You only need one gasket for each side for a stock car

The value cover gasket isn’t a bad thing to change but it would be best to inspect the area first. If you don’t need to pull off and replace the gaskets on the valve covers it’s best to be left alone.

Good looking winter mode. Make sure to use much thinner oil in the winter it’s a big help.

I’m thinking my lower oil pan might be leaking a little. Is there a gasket or just rtv sealant? I can’t seem to find a part number for a gasket.
