NEW RECORD B7 RS4 NA DYNO RUN! I MEAN 1/4 MILE RUN!

SO today a group of us set off for Toronto Motorsports Park. It was myself, Mistro (B7 Rs4 JHM bolt ons) and Cory_CanB8Avant (not sure his exact username because he has a couple…and he has a K04 B8 A4 2.0T). Axel was due to meet us later in the day.

The weather was nice and sunny, and the predictions were for a high of about 12 Celsius (that’s around 55 F for you stone agers). There was a forecast headwind for the track’s location but we didn’t mind and set off for Cayuga.

After arriving we were again (like last week) pleasantly shocked to see that it was dead. Maybe 2 cars had gone through tech before us, and 3 Lexus IS-Fs arrived shortly after we did. Throw in a handful of others, and it was again like a private track rental with all-you-can-eat passes.

After getting my go pro sorted out, we started making passes. My car which went 12.53 @ 110.5 last week was pretty steadily in the 12.6 @ 109.5 range for the first couple of hours. Mistro was around 12.3 @ 112 so that was promising. We must have made 10 passes at these levels. The DA was better than last week by about 1000 feet but whereas last week was calm, this week we had about 20 MPH right in our face. At least it was a cold breeze. We joked it would be ram-air rather than a detraction. Unfortunately the headwind appears to have eaten up whatever DA improvement there was from last week, so times would be similar from the looks of things.

I left early, and on the way home counted my slips. 18 of them. I made 18 passes in about 3 hrs time. Could have made 28. The car didn’t get any slower all day, even after 5-6 in a row. I will post the times of my runs later. It’s nuts. Basically every 3 minutes for 5-6 in a row, then a break to give the clutch a rest.

As the day wore on we steadily improved, and pretty soon I was back in the 12.5 range @ 110, and Mistro was threatening to become the fastest normally aspirated RS4 ever. The record is held by AR user jnaut, who went 12.26 @ 112 on race gas with his interior primarily removed and a race seat for the driver. The street trim record is held by AR user 2000s4 who went 12.28 @ 112.45 back in 2011 with JHM fin, full exhaust, clutch, rotors. Basically same as mistrial but 2000s4 was catless downpipes whereas mistro has his cats in

Here’s a pass against Mistro. He’s Phantom Black in the left lane. I’m Avus Silver (camera car) in the right.

12.34 @ 112.76 for Mistro and 12.56 @ 109.58 for me. Notice how I get the jump and he just steadily reels me in? On ET+RT I only actually won that by 0.01 seconds. I got out 0.24 on reaction, and picked up another 0.06 in the first 60’. Then you can see I pull ahead on my 1-2 being a bit quicker so I am over 0.30 ahead of him. Right around when I change into 3rd gear which is 70mph, he just starts pulling hard right through the finish, making up all that space and 3 tenths in roughly 3/4 of the track.

On runs where we react and launch similarly like the next one its lights out for me. Here’s another run right around the same time. The guys in front of us are 2 of the IS-Fs.

12.29@112.80 for mistro vs 12.57@109.97 for me. This was his first 12.2 pass, and only the 4th one run by an all motor B7 RS4. This tied Dan@JHM’s best time all motor from November 2011, run on 91.

Here is the slip for the 12.29v12.57 run

Here’s another of me following mistro. I bounced off the rev limiter in 2nd and lost some time here. The GoPro and mic are on his car as you can see, so you can compare this to my other videos for a feel for what the JHM prototype exhausts (like mine) sound like vs. the production version (like Mistro’s). Pretty much identical.

12.67@109.25 for me, 12.39@112.98 for Mistro.

The 3 guys in the IS Fs were pretty steady all day. One guy struggled with traction a lot, another ran high 12s and the third had drag slicks and ran 12.48 @ 113.0 as his best of the day that I saw. I actually ran against him on that one. Slip is below marked appropriately. They were filming and stuff, so hopefully they’re on a forum as well and we can see some of their footage.

Here is me vs the fastest Lexus IS-F on what may have been his best pass of the day

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo193/sakimano/20140419_164141_zps35a44acb.jpg

Here is my fastest pass of the day. 12.51 @ 110.48

Here is Mistro’s 2nd fastest pass of the day (it was when I left anyway). I was coming back in the return lane and he was getting quicker and quicker so I jumped out of the car when I saw him getting staged and got this video. This would be the fastest ever NA B7 RS4 time, pipping JNAUT by 0.01 second and 2000S4 by 0.03 for fastest street trim time ever.

12.25 @ 113.4. for Mistro. Great commentary by the tower

I will let Mistro post about his experience, as well as his best of the day, along with the timeslips for that and the 12.25 @ 113.

NICE, now print out the dyne sheet LOL

There’s the data. Here’s the modlists

Avus Silver 2008 RS4 - sakimano
JHM catted downpipes
JHM resonated exhaust
All else stock
Petro Canada 94 octane pump gas

Phantom Black 2008 RS4 - Mistro
JHM catted downpipes (same)
JHM resonated exhaust (same)
JHM 93 tune
JHM 5R clutch/LWFW
JHM LW rotors

So the ben3ficial mods that I don’t have would be the tune and lw parts. That got him 3 tenths and 3 MPH. In colloquial terms, this would mean about 30-35 HP difference between our cars at this level, so that’s pretty significant. It’s also important to note that although he set the new all motor RS4 record today, he ran catted downpipes. As much as I think the JHM cats are excellent, I also think removing them will give him that little bump to move him a bit quicker. We will have to wait to see when Mistro goes to the strip.

If we compare my fastest stock runs to my fastest JHM full exhaust with cats runs, you’re looking at delta of about 0.25 seconds and 2.5 MPH.

If you compare Mistro’s fastest JHM tune+JHM catted exhaust/bolt ons to that, you pick up another 0.30 seconds and 3 full MPH.

Lots of people wanted to see what the tune does or what the exhaust does, so hopefully this sheds a little light. While the lightweight stuff certainly helps, it has to be said that he is picking up a bunch of MPH on me and you can’t do that without power. At the end of the track he is just MOWING me down.

All in all, full exhaust + tune + bolt on parts looks to be worth around 6 tenths and 6 MPH, which is around 60 hp or so. The dyno results we’ve seen show gains of around 40-45 WHP peak and similar torque, so about 50/50 at the crank. The delta from those 50 or so to the 60 or so evidenced in time gained is the LW parts. Simple enough and it adds up.

Something else to think about is how effortlessly Mistro launched using JHM launch assist. He was cutting 1.77-1.82 60’ times at will. That’s something in the tune that gets overlooked because as well as I can launch it, I can also fuck it up pretty good. JHM launch assist however just about nails it every time.

Great post Saki! And great times yet again!

Mistro, very solid work congrats again. Saki great write up and info. Really shows the delta in a real world format.

Let’s also give 2000s4 some props for holding that record since 2011. Jnaut too for being a helleva driver.

Spectacular results! Nice write-up, too. Looking forward to Mistro’s comments!

Awesome! Congrats to mistro! You really see the tune and lw parts shine on the big end… Da was great but sounds like times could have even been better without the wind… Great stuff, I love reading these kind of posts gets me excited… Lol

I think 2 of your records fell yesterday so you’d better get excited and get at least one of them back!

Great numbers and times by both of you! Interesting to see the tune and lw parts improvement. Now we just gotta get you two to road course lol (I know mistro’s been before lol)

Wasn’t sure I had any in the first place… Care to share what your referencing? Oh, I did some testing yesterday also…

Great write up Saki. Sounds like you guys had a blast. Congrats to you on improving your times and major congrats to Mistro!! Low 12s at 113 mph in a heavy n/a sedan is just ridiculously impressive. Combination of great driving and a spot on tune/exhaust combo from JHM.

As Saki mentioned, it was totally deserted. I managed to get in 24 passes in total.

I will still on my winter setup, 225/40/18 PA3s on HRS4-DTM-GS (27.5lbs according to the mfg) and cats in. Traction was definitely a bit of an issue. You can see in some of Saki’s videos how much slip there was. The headwind was a bit of a bummer. It would have been a perfect day otherwise.

When I arrived my goal was 12.2 since that’s what Dan’s and 2000s4’s ran with a similar setup so I figured I should be able to crank of something similar.

I’m not as good of a narrator as Saki so I’ll just skip to the details lol

Here are my best times of the day:

I ran this right afterwards, but botched a shift unfortunately.

I’m hoping to try again after swapping to catless and on my summer setup (255/35/19 PSSs on stock wheels).

12.21@113.23 that’s moving Mistro! It’s interesting how you just kept on pulling against Saki all the way through the passes.

What’s lake richard? The announcer says my time and goes “Hmm, lake richard” … or something like that.

Good job Mistro! Are you referring to Don’t k03 run from back In the day?

Sent from my S5

Good job, guys! ;D

Jake, are you going to post this on AZ? :stuck_out_tongue:

haha!

this was a nice run…with some great shifting.

what is the diff between these NA run vs SC? what are the additional gains being provided by the SC?

Haha that’s that’s a good question. I probably will

Sent from my S5

Nice runs guys.

Mistro, how does your 5R clutch feel/sound compared to stock?
