New Smartphone Review Thread

Do Americans not have ‘tap’ with the credit card? Your financial system is so old fashioned. We’ve had this for years.

I don’t see the appeal of the watch/phone pay . turn on phone, u lock phone, hold it there for 4 or 5 seconds, then use your Fingerprint… Blah blah blah. Retardedly complicated so people can say ‘apple is amazing!’

Watch this. Up to $100 (aka 99.999% of purchases you make). Instant. No bullshit. If everyone used their apple phone to pay for 20 years and then credit card tap was invented, we’d all throw our phones in the garbage and say ‘thank God that’s over’

Lol that’s not how Apple Watch pay works. You just double tap the side button and hold it in front of the reader. Takes less than two (2) seconds.

When I buy the 2d gen watch, I’m going to send you my old one just to piss you off

This is the 4th generation watch. Apple was smart enough not to release the first 3. Google and their gang of OEM hacks have no such restraint. Samsung cracks me up. Everyone is allowed to code and ship any stupid feature. They’re all half baked.

On my third try. Damn thing’s been “verifying” for an hour lol. Come on, Apple!

Yeah it did take almost 2 hours to update.

Deciding between note 5 and s6 edge+

Is the S6 edge + the thing that is basically a note?
I’f so I’m sure it’s great.

If not get a note sized phone.

It is same build and size essentially. Just no stylus.

The stylus is not a big deal. I use it once a month. Mostly to write notes on screenshots making fun of friends.

Cool. I didnt think I would use it much. Thing is that the edge+ at 64gb is also only a buck with 2yr contract. Note is only 32gb at that $1 price. $99 for the 64gb. I am cheap when it comes to phone tech. Figure the memory trumps the stylus at that price point. Lol

yeah, if you can get a great phone on a 2 yr deal, that’s great. You’ll make money in a way since you’ll sell the phone for $200-250 in 2yrs. Of course you’ll pay $1500 in phone bills in that period so making money is the wrong way to describe it but you know what I mean.

I have a great deal on my phone plan here in Canada but I have a problem:

$50/month and no other fees at all
6 GB LTE data
unlimited text
unlimited domestic talk
200 minutes long distance a month

The problem is that they won’t give me a subsidized phone anymore because my plan is too cheap. So I have two choices

  1. switch to a $65/month plan that is worse and get a subsidized phone every 2 years
  2. stay put and keep using my Note 3 (which is awesome and frankly is as good as anything out there)

Financially, the $15/month x 24 months = $360+13% tax = $406.80 every 2 years. Not worth it really. I won’t recover that selling the phone after the 2 years, and I can always buy a 1 year old phone like a Note 5 for $400 cash today if I want. No warranty of course.

also, paying for ‘memory’ is not as big a deal. These are Samsungs so you can put a 64gb or 128 GB card in them if you want.

The newest ones dont support adding microsd memory…at least from what I have read

wait…what?

Don’t think so. No slot provided. Guess you can always transfer data to free up space but no way to expand internal with a memory card

Both speaking on s6 and edge/edge+ but almost positive I read same about Note 5…no slot

But, it looks like they did bring that feature back for the s7 and note 7. Was a lot of uproar at losing that capability

I just got the samsung s7 edge, they went back to expandable memory, so I guess they eliminated for the s6 and felt the heat and brought it back (my S5 had expandable memory as well). Also came with the Samsung S2 gear watch, which is pretty cool. It has a standalone phone number as well as a number sync so I can have it paired with my Samsung S7 number to receive calls and text through that number, just has to be within bluetooth range to take advantage of that. Only complaint I have is how expensive these “new” plans are with having to pay the full price of the phone but no contract obligation, though I am paying this phone over 24 months, so it sure seems like I am in a 2 year contract, hmm.

Ya, I cant get on board with that. It is expensive! Thats why I am ok getting last years tech for a buck with 2yr contract

Just got the Note 7. Seems nice.

that’s it. Blackberry will be dead before christmas.

Any recommendations on a good charging case for the 6+? My battery life is fucking pathetic.
