Question for those of you with non-Apple smartphones. What kind of battery life are you seeing?
My phone (6 Plus) was fully charged as of 12:00 p.m. CST today. Since then, I’ve used it on and off for Internet surfing, Twitter, text messagess, and I’ve sent about 10 emails. I keep the brightness around 75%. It’s now 10:40, and my battery is at 51%. Seems kind of weaksauce to me, but I’m not sure what the relative performance is of Apple’s competitors.

It is really hard for me to say since my usage varies so much day to day. On average my usage gets pretty heavy when I get home from work and am just watching TV, so it takes a huge nosedive then, but usually its at about 70-75% when I get home from work with light usage (Facebook/Reddit at break time and occasional E-mail/texting) but from there battery life will vary for me. (This is all with the screen on low brightness and connected to WI-FI when I am at home.)
My iPhone 5S lasts for several hours if actively navigating. You can literally watch the battery tick like a countdown when using the GPS. I get a day (~16 hours) out of it if I use it moderately, and two days if I use it very lightly. I’ve done all the battery saving tricks.
I was at the airport last Monday, and there were dozens of people charging their phones. ALL were Apple users. Its a real problem if you are relying on your Apple iPhone to help navigate when travelling. If you don’t have a charger of some kind, your battery will not last.
I’ve got the Nexus 6 and when using the GPS it drains a bit fast as well. I went on a 2 hour trip using the turn by turn voice navigation and battery life went down to 51%.
that’s pretty terrible battery life. Wonder if you have some other ificiencies.
I use the heck out of my phone, and just about never have to plug it in before bedtime. I used it all day yesterday, and then forgot to charge it overnight. It’s right now 10:24 am , and I am at 50%. Samsung Note 3 . That’s excellent for a day and a half for me. Normally I would be at about 20-30% the next morning after not charging.
^^ Wow that’s a big difference from what I get. I forgot to charge mine last night, and here’s where it stands right now. I think something’s wrong with it.
How are you liking the Nexus 6 so far? My phone has been being stupid lately and I think I might get something new once my tax return comes in. I have very briefly considered a 6+ but I don’t know if I could live with myself…
Without What’s App running, I start the day 6am at 100% and I end the day at midnight at 60%.
With What’s App running, I start the day at 6am at 100%, and I end the day at midnight at 5%.
It really comes down to usage. My phone has a built-in app that shows me which apps used how much battery by percentage. So if one app drains my batter more than others, I can choose to shut it down if I need to save battery life.
This is with bluetooth, wifi and regular cell service all on all the time.
just get a battery app to see what is using juice.
the pussyball reference was from Bay Hill. We were in a rain delay in the clubhouse and lots of the old boys were gambling. We were actually in the men’s locker room, and they have a bar down there. Had to be 50 of us in there. Carlton from Fresh prince was there, as well as a couple of current and former tour players, and random Bay Hill members. It was pretty funny all of us jammed in there.
My friend tends to carry cash, and one of the older guys came up to him (classic southeast guy) and asked him to break a couple of 100 dollar bills. Erik was laying down 20s for him, and made some small talk, because he knew the guy liked to bet on sports. This was in March during march madness.
Erik - “So did you see that Arizona State game last night?”
the guy looked at him with a twisted face, and said…“You talking about pussay bawwwlllll??”
and just scooped his change and walked away lol. We were all dying laughing. We saw him again last month and he called the NBA ‘nothing but agony’
I like it. I must state I was coming from an iPhone4 so it was a monumental leap, but overall the Lollipop OS is nice and the phone is fast. I would say the only drawback is battery life with heavy use, but I haven’t compared usage against another Android rival. However, reading online it seems that this phone is a little weaker in the battery department although it does charge fast when using the AC adapter.
Haha that’s a pretty funny story (you have lots of good stories :)). I guess Floridians don’t have much to cheer about when it comes to the NBA. Orlando is a shitcan team, and Miami is not much better. Hell, even when the Heat were winning championships with Lebron, the stadium notoriously failed to fill up before the end of the first quarter.
Now, I will agree with pussyball when it comes to college basketball - but I would just apply that to college sports in general. I have a somewhat irrational hostility to all college athletics - I refuse to take time out of my day to watch amateurs make hash of otherwise respectable sports. If it’s not the pros, I’m out.
You’re an educated guy…never went out to root for your team? That’s really where the support comes from. It stays on after school where people follow it.
I personally hate american football and basketball so I don’t give much of a shit about pro or college.
^^ No I really didn’t. Part of that is because I commuted to college from the suburbs, so I wasn’t very involved with sports and the other social life stuff on campus (I instead resolved to be a nerd and write editorials for the school paper). Also, other than basketball, sports weren’t prevalent at my college - ditto for law school.
You shld follow your NBA team - they’re pretty good this year.
It does when you’re on 5 different active chats, one of which has on average 1700 messages per day lol
It won’t use up a lot of battery if it’s not active. It’s not so much what’s app that using the battery, it’s the data transfer it’s causing from all the activity.
