New Smartphone Review Thread

The 6 Plus is fucking incredible. I really don’t know how I tolerated a small screen for so long. My previous phone - the 4S - is not even in the same league.

Only slight complaint is that the battery life isn’t as great as I expected. After turning up the brightness, and with quite a bit of use today, I have about 15% remaining.

Other than that, it’s total awesomeness.

Happy you received and enjoy it. Honestly, this is the first time I’ve not minded putting the screen brightness down a little bit. I’ve got mine around 70%+/- It helps out quite a bit with battery and it’s still at least as bright as the 4s. I’m at 41% now and I’ve been using it a ton today.

I ordered a fruit phone (lol first timer).

I should get it on Friday (lol UPS says it’s in Korea right now - shipped direct from Foxconn in China).

Don’t you have auto brightness?

I do and I have it on too. The way I understand it is, it’s bases the level off of the brightness setting you choose and it auto dims to try and match that setting based on the ambient light. That makes sense right lol?

I’m waiting on this bad boy. Anyone else?

YUP!

Nope!

What’s the big appeal?

It’s basically a big motoX which many would say is the best phone you can buy. Here is a good article on it: http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2014/10/15/motorola-nexus-6-everything-you-need-to-know/

Also it is water resistant, supports wireless charging, and supports WiFi calling on T-Mobile.

It rivals or beats anything the note 4 has, and kicks the shit out of the iPhone 6+. And customizability is off the charts.

Saki,

I’m more excited for just the pure android experience, I also like the 15min charge gives you 6 hours of use, which is handy for me at my job.

It was this or the note 4, I’ve just used alot of Samsung products lately and wouldn’t mind a change.

as opposed to the Rogers and Samsung bloated android experience? I hear you there.

Yeah, I’ve used the Nexus phones for years (starting with the Nexus S through the Nexus 5). I enjoy using the vanilla Android experience (no bloatware).

I’m going to try out the fruit phone 6 and see how I like iOS (I’ve never owned any Apple hardware before).

I think I was still into iPhones last time I posted in this thread. Switched over to a Galaxy S5 when this past spring and the grass is definitely greener on the samsung side. Actually going to pick up a Note 4 today

I remember you lost a bet about selling an iphone as mint and buying an iphone 5

Not only that, but the nexus will receive updates straight from google, while Samsung users get whatever Samsung decides to release to the carriers, then who knows when the carrier will release it to the users. Also, the nexus will come with android ‘lollipop’ unlocked at its full potential (no bloatware/Samsung interface). Who knows when the note will get lollipop. Probably not too long since they’re popular.

Nexus will work on any carrier just as it sits, you can switch carriers as much as you want and won’t have to get a new phone. Software will likely be supported for longer since it is popular with developers.

Biggest advantages to the note are removable battery and micro sd slot.

I know most people don’t care about that stuff, and just want what’s popular. But I hate dealing with the BS (sense/touchwiz) and will be going with the latest nexus model when it is released.

Did they take away the removable battery and micro SD slot for the note 4? The note 3 had both of those features. The ability to switch to any carrier is definitely nice. Not that I’m constantly changing, but if I did it’d be nice to know my $700+ phone doesn’t need to be replaced.

No it still has it. I was saying that is the biggest advantage it has over the nexus.

I don’t care about getting the latest and greatest operating system. Updating your opertating system so quickly is a ploy by the phone companies to make you buy a new phone, since it generally bogs it down. The new system is designed for the new fast phones. Not the old slow phones.

lol you might be thinking of every apple device ever.

No when Quadfreak said “the biggest advantages to the note are…” I thought he was talking about the Nexus rather than the note and since I had the note 3 I was a little confused as to why they’d take that away all of a sudden. I know Apple has to be a dick and make it a huge endeavor just to swap out an old battery on top of denying you an expansion slot for an SD card.
