My new phone just arrived and it’s going to take a while to get used to it.
Anyone got any thoughts on Samsung adding UV and other medical/health sensors to their phones?
http://www.cnet.com/news/samsung-galaxy-note-4-may-feature-uv-sensor-report-says/
I think the UV sensor is more of a gimmick than an actual feature people will use. Either you take precautions to getting skin cancer or you don’t. I don’t think having a phone that tells you your chances of getting skin cancer are higher than average is going to get the majority of people to stop at the store to buy sunscreen and start using it all of the time. Also the part that says the light needs to hit the sensors at a 60* angle at the phones back in the sun sounds terrible. So you’ll need to either lay your phone down on a flat surface in the sun or hold it perfectly for long enough that it can calculate the levels. Either way, sounds not too user friendly.
On the other hand, I think there is definitely good reason for various health sensors that can alert you to various health issues you might be contracting. However, I think most of the truly beicial health apps will require separate hardware. The potential for nano technology in the health industry is quite interesting.

Unfortunately it’s ebola centric, but some of the ideas are good. Using phone data to determine how much you walk, sleep. Being able to take your blood pressure, heart rate. Use your phone to pay for things and track where you eat.
Thnx, man. I’m thrilled with it. The screen is just awesome - I really don’t even need my iPad anymore for my kindle app. One thing I will probably buy soon is a Bluetooth ear piece.
Oh ya, and I still need a case
^^^^that comment there is why I said a couple of years ago on here that people with tiny apple phones are the majority of people who buy tablets. People with Samsung Note sized phones let their tablet gather dust (unless their kid uses it)
Not sure I would have bought an iPad had I been using a Plus-sized phone at the time. Possibly - but it probably wouldn’t have been as tempting.
I do think the 6 Plus will cannibalize the iPad Mini. There’s no conceivable reason to own both. I wouldn’t be surprised to see that product phased out in a few years.
I agree.
Although I’m the exception. I had no tablet. Then I got a note 2. Then I loved the pen so much I got a note 10.1
Who’s going to sign up for Apple Pay? I’m thinking about it.
I’m going to get it. Seems like it’s got some cool features like disposable credit card numbers so it’s harder for people to commit fraud with your shit. On top of that it also has the added security of your fingerprint/password. It’s definitely not going to replace my wallet completely though considering there aren’t that many places that accept it but I will definitely try and use it until I find a reason not to.
I don’t see the point of Apple pay
-
faster - actually it’s slower. We have ‘tap’ or ‘fast pay’ here. You literally just tap your card to the thing, and boom…you’ve paid. Doing it with a phone would be worse. Pull out phone, unlock phone holding the fingerprint reader (so get your gloves off etc) and wait 5-6 seconds…much slower.
-
safer - I don’t care. I don’t pay when someone steals/clones/hacks my credit card.
-
more high tech - very true. So was having a digital calculator watch in the 1980s. Now we all want classic movement watches. Funniest part is you still have to carry your credit card with you, since your phone won’t always be there…your phone battery will die (especially if you have an iPhone)…so it’s redundant and excessive.
All in all I don’t understand it? On top of all this 99% of merchants won’t have it, and you have to have an apple phone, therefore 87% of all smartphone users won’t have it. This will be the next google wallet.
Yeah, the probability of it going the way of Google Wallet (at least the NFC payment portion of it) is quite likely. But we’ll see. I’ll try it (probably only at the bigger stores for now).
^^ Did you get the 6 or the Plus?
I haven’t been able to connect my Navy Federal card to it… but the other stuff has been cool to toy with.
I got the 6 in 64GB
Even got a cool wallpaper

Just set up Apple pay and it actually works pretty well. Once you have your cards added all you do is hold your thumb over the home button when you tap the POS sensor and it charges your default payment card. I think that is actually faster than pulling out my fireti wallet which I love, but it’s a bit of a challenge finding and pulling out exactly what you want.
Nice. Wallpaper is money!
RS4 content on my wallpaper as well.

Little guy jumped on the sill while I was detailing.
Haha nice. I’ve just got this image to make my wait even more miserable.
