New to me B8

Saki, Thanks I appreciate that… I think it is pretty good for not really advertising them… Pretty much all sales came from reviews, my sig in AW(where I barely post), and word of mouth…

Cory, Here is a post with some pics on AW… Let me know if you need more or are interested… Thanks Ron

Except on AZ. ;D

PT, you should start a new thread here for them. A full on for sale thread (unless they’re a PITA…hopefully you or your brother get something out of it for your time)

Saki, Already did… I bumped it as it’s in the for sale section… Lowered the price as well…

Thanks for the thoughts though…

What I would really like to know/do is find other things other B8 or any model Audi for that matter owners want and make some niche parts… I may have mentioned before but my brother makes several niche items for the Mustang crowd… EGR delete plates, shifter handles, pedal extensions for heal toe shifting, and his big item is billet shift forks for the T45, TR3650, and T56… It is the weak point in the Ford tranny line… If someone has an upgraded shift fork it’s probably 90+% something my brother has made… He has sold thousands of them through various outlets and they are works of art that function very well… No one has ever broken one…

So if anyone has ideas I’m all ears…

wow sure enough. And I posted in it.

2.5 years ago though…so I’m blaming memory loss

I am finally getting my B8 in for it’s HPFP replacement tomorrow, then I can get moving on getting it tuned and adding some of the bits and pieces I have coming for it. HPA replied to me today with regards to their upcoming release of the DSG file

Hello Ryan,

We are currently in the process of finalizing the DSG tune for the newer Audi DL501 gearboxes. Once complete, we can ship a flash tool and instructions to you under our loaner tool program to do the flashing. I will be in contact with you once I have confirmation of availability. Please feel free to contact me with any further questions or concerns. Thank you for your interest in HPA.

Best Regards,

HPA recycled the same email from 2011  I think I have that one somewhere. Note it says “newer” DL501, wtf your car (and mine) has the first DL501 and it’s 4 years old by now

Too funny. So I guess I shouldnt’ hold my breath on that DSG tune then.

Jspazz is right - HPA has been saying the same thing for years. Why not go GIAC for the DSG tune?

Lol, I visited HPA’s HQ last year and they talked about that dsg tune as well

GIAC will only sell to me if I buy their ECU tune as well, I talked directly to Austin about that.

Oh that’s right - need to buy both. Well have we seen performance improvements with the DSG tune for B8 cars?

I just placed my order for AWE/GIAC Stage 2, my local vendor has ordered the pulley which means I should be in for tuning late next week.

I initially purchased an SRM pulley and was going to have the car tuned at ECUprogram, unfortunately my ECU has been tuned before and been put back to stock. ECUprogram was unable to get their file to completion and so they flashed back the stock file. Although I was extremely excited about the prospects a custom tune several factors influenced my decision. 1. The latest results from GIAC are very promising 2. GIAC are currently the only company offering a DSG tune, as I have an early 10 model my DSG programming sucks, doesn’t have factory launch control.

I got my shipping update from Roc-Euro today so that should arrive before I have my tune , and then I will be going with a custom aluminum exhaust from Unobtainium, a local high end fabrication shop. My A6 has a 4" aluminum exhaust from Unobtainium that weighs less than 12lbs. Nothing too crazy on the exhaust, some bigger pipes and resonator removal.

compressor chart for TVSr1320 + 3.0T @ 4000 lbs running 11.6 @ 118 = what the hell else could a custom tune do but be worse

There’s not really anything left in the 1320 other than small gains, and going to a small shop brings with it way too much risk without any real reward. If the ‘small shop’ was JHM, a multi million dollar a year business (so not very small really) that also tunes very succesfully and has held the fastest record for literally every Audi S4/RS4 in the last 10 years, I would think about that for sure…but since it’s not, you really can’t go wrong with APR or GIAC

Come on EYEspi, your smarter than to fall into the custom tuning hype.

EYEspi - just curious as to what about the DSG programming sucks. I get that you don’t have launch control, but then again LC has not proven to be any more effective at 60’ times and ETs than non-LC. Also, all of Primetime’s 1/4 mile passes so far have been on a 2010 DSG model. To my knowledge, he hasn’t really had any complaints with the stock DSG tune.

Also, I’ll just ask again whether the GIAC DSG tune has proven to increase performance on the B8 cars (I get that the B8.5s are a different story with the lower RPM limit).

To be fair, the custom tuning with pulley would have been about 1K less than the GIAC tune, if the results were similar I could think of many other places to drop that coin. Oh well, kind of a moot point now.

After speaking to several smart individuals, I was enlightened as to the inclusion of a barometric sensor on the B8’s, which was not there on the B5’s. I considered the custom tune because it included dyno time at my local elevation, apparently not such a big deal when you have an on board barometer

When I spoke with Austin he mentioned that the 10’s DSG programming was still a little “jerky” the DSG tune should clear that up. I did not purchase the DSG tune at this point, I would like to get out to the track first before buying another mod that may or may not be worth it.

Clochner, I haven’t seen any evidence that the B8 DSG tune is that great, but at this point GIAC is the only company giving me the option to purchase one if I would like to.

I offered my car to Drew@JHM last week, he politely declined.

Ya maybe head to the track first with your stage 2 setup and see how you run. Btw good choice on GIAC over a custom tune. You really can’t go wrong with either them or APR for the B8.
