Very lucky. I would love to hear your thoughts between the two cars.
The S4 is a very capable car and a solid 11.x car with mods. And the S6 is an 11.x car stock right. Interesting to hear how each stocks up. So cool for you to have made the leap.
with the assault on tuners by the oems, factory hp are becoming very desirable to those who want a newer car and dont want to be denied warranty coverage.
Must have been a tough call with the loaded new S6 for 2016, but when I priced out an S7 it was over $90k. I’m assuming you got a way better deal than that under $50k.
Very true. It’s a rocketship already, and insane with the tune, but I do agree. I didn’t realize the engine was that pricey either. $20k for a Porsche engine was one reason I got out of my 997 (close to the end of its warranty period).
I know I’m in the minority since the Internet has a lot of love for the 4.0TT, but I think V6 turbo engines are a better design. I’m unconvinced that cylinder deactivation in V8 engines can be done gracefully and seamlessly. For this reason I like the Macan S (3.0TT) and Macan Turbo (3.6TT) better than the S6/S7 or 550i/M5.
on paper, you may end up being right. In the real world, where people go by feel and intangibles to measure their enjoyment, the sound of a turbo 6 is the equivalent of nails on a chalkboard compared to a turbo V8.
Also, when displacement is in your favour you’re making far more torque far earlier, with far less effort you start to appreciate a V8.
At the end of the day, who gives a flying fuck about fuel efficiency via cylinder deactivation? I would deactivate it anyway. Seriously…does anyone here make a decision to buy a fat german sports sedan based on fuel efficiency? Let’s say a V6 with turbos is 20% more efficient. GREAT! So you saved $450 a year on fuel! Over 5 years of ownership that’s $2250. AKA a rounding error vs. the $20,000 premium you paid for a german sporty sedan vs. a japanese one which is even better on fuel. And if you’re buying a Porsche, you’re now overpaying vs. an equivalent Audi by about $30,000 again. Money arguments are foolish.
You can’t deactivate cylinder deactivation. I think it’s a cheap hack and I don’t like engines that rely on it. You can get a nice Macan S for $63k in the US. I think they sound good.
Yesterday I saw a white RS7 in front of a hipster restaurant in SF and 3 sixty year old ladies got into it. I loled.
I think BMW allowed you to deactivate start stop and cylinder deactiviation
Macan S for $63 doesn’t include wheels, seats or much. And it’s a Macan S…they’re frigging tiny and kinda useless as either a ‘truck’ or a sports vehicle. Why not buy a 3.0T Q5?
