Newbie here....

I have a set of meyle I need to install. Just haven’t had time. But I ordered through fcp and they have a lifetime warranty. So minus that I’d have to redo the control arms frequently if they suck, they will be free.

I’ve installed this kit on my 2008 S6. Wasn’t too bad of a job if your have basic mechanical skills and the right tools. There’s a thread on this subject that has some details.

We have it for a better price: https://jhmotorsports.com/shop/catalog/front-control-arm-tie-rod-kit-12-pc-meyle-hd-for-c6-a6-s6-p-3960.html

Update on knocking sound:
So as it turns out my control arms are fine. My issue is my passenger side rack and pinion, it’s either loose or broken.
This somewhat explains why I hear the knocking when I turn the steering wheel from left to right and not so much when going over bumps.

Anyone know how to get to the rack and pinion? Is there a service manual available for download that’ll tell me how to get to it?

Thanks.

Just message jake above he will most likely be able to help you

There are two major bolts that you want to look for. Those can be found by removal of the front rain tray and looking down the bolts to the rack are located in the valley.

Thanks this maybe a little over my head so I’ll work with a mechanic to trouble shoot and repair.

If you have any questions or want to check anything your mechanic says let us know for a second opinion

Update: Mechanic said all he had to do was to tighten the 2 bolts for the rack and pinion and that’s it… like new again. I’m baffled as to how they could have come loose in the first place and two he charged me $280 for the fix.

of course i paid it i was happy as hell to get my car back on the road, but now i’m thinking if i can trust that mechanic or is he just a thief???

Also anyone have a link to the Vagcom scanner I need to buy for a C6S6?

That happens a lot with the older C5 cars. So much so that I put blue locktite on the threads.

If you know right off that you have to tighten the two bolts 280 is a rip off. If he had to look over the entire car to find the issue then it might not be that bad. Some times you have to pay for them to investigate and that can take time

Ross tech makes the vag com. Its a very good investment.

Agreed, it probably took some time to find the exact problem and fix it. $280 means he probably billed you for about 2.5 hours of labor, which doesn’t sound unreasonable to me. Obviously, tightening the bolts probably didn’t take more than 2 minutes, but I know it would’ve taken myself a lot more than 2.5 hours to find that problem

You’re right I guess I’m being a bit paranoid. I just think once these shops see the S6, they just think $$$$. I mean the dealer charges $250 for an oil change and another $72 to rest the service notification…lol I just laugh and said to myself never again.

Thanks for the link Justin, I should be able to reset the service chime if I do my own oil change next time correct?

Yes smith.

Yes you can do that and a ton more.

So here’s an exhaust question for the guys that have a custom exhaust system.
I currently have a fully stock exhaust.
If I go to a shop that makes custom exhausts what requirements do I give them besides a 2.75"+ diameter pipes?
Definitely I’m looking for performance gains but I also what that hi performance/mean growl without being raspy and just obnoxious.

X pipe in the proper location, smooth bends, and less raspiness you need a set of resonators and high flow mufflers
