Newbie here....

Where are you located.

Some of the biggest road blocks with exahust systems is the placement of the X the angles of the flow into the X and from there the kind of mufflers you have. You can gain or loose 50% hp potential with the right or wrong X pipe and from there mufflers will make or break the sound. Most of the time resonators are something your going to need to use as well. But the wrong resonators will disturb the flow waves.

Interesting… I’m in the NYC area.

It might be worth contacting countvohn

Here is a good read.

Anyone have step by step instructions on how to replace the front grille on an c6 s6?
If I have to remove the bumper is there a diy on that also?

This is a generic post but it will help you get an idea on what your going to have to do. Your car will have the similar bolts in the same place for removal that a b7 S4 or RS4 will have. Look this over and see if its helpful. If not let me know I can try to help walk you through it with more direct explination

I found this link online i’m gonna try this tomorrow.

That looks good too. a combination of the two should be able to get you all the way there. Let us know how it goes.

So changing the grill turned out to be a lot harder than I thought for one person. From start to finish about 4 hrs. The instructions linked above were adequate except that on the S6 you can’t disconnect the driver blinker, led and headlamp washer pump hose from under neath the car. You have to first disconnect the front passenger side blinker and led then unbolt the bumper on both sides then renturn to the front driverside with a helper to hold the bumper In place while you gently pull it away from the car and disconnect the driver side blinker, led and head lamp spray washer hose. Everything else seemed intuitive and I’m not a gear head per say.

I bought an eBay honeycomb RS6 style grille for $90. Let’s just say I got what I paid for, the mounting holes on the grille didn’t line up well so I had to use my judgement in securing the grille to the bumper.

Here’s before and after pics. Feel free to share your thoughts on the outcome good or bad, I think it looks good but I’m still getting used to the look.

One more thing this bolt fell out the car once I was able to pull the bumper off… I have no clue what it was doing in there I feel as though it fell into the engine bay and was left there because they did know where it went. To me I don’t even think that it belongs on this car. What do y’all think? Do you recognize this bolt?

Thanks for looking.

I think it came out very nice despite the struggle to get it there!

I wish I could see the pictures, not sure why they show corrupt on Tapatalk and safari :-? Sure it looks good though!

For those who can’t see. I couldn’t either.

Thanks Mdubz.

Looks good, Just need to remove the front plate (add a tow hook mount if you have to) , and add the s6 logo to the mesh

Thanks all, it definitely was a struggle but I enjoyed every second of it.

Ahhhh nice touch will do, thanks.

Hehe just consider it  but I think it will be a nice touch if you go that path

The before and after pictures look nice. Looks like it turned out nice.

On the not so great point. That bolt looks like it goes through the front body to the crash bar. Thats not good to not have in place. The bolt goes in from the under side. So it is possible for it to fall down if someone didnt put it in or tighten it down. That looks just like the crash bolt and thats kinda important.

So that old rack and pinion issue came back again, I’m a little baffled as to why the two bolts keep coming loose.
I think I’m going to attempt to tighten then myself this time around. What tools would I need to buy I order to tighten my rack and pinion myself? Any pics of where or how to get to it is appreciated also.

Hmmm ok thanks for the heads up. can you describe to me where underneath this bolt should go? If you happen to have a picture that would help too. Sounds like I’ll have to remove the bumper again to put it back in. Any pointers will be appreciated.

Same thing happened in my car… JimmyBones tightened me up nicely though. I think he said we should/can Loctite the bolts if ever comes up again, but yeah, apparently this was also common with the C5. He didn’t have to take the bumper off though so maybe I’m thinking of something else.

SIX6SIX i was able to resolve this issue by purchasing new bolts form the dealer. They are $15 + tax and when you compare the new to the old you’ll see why it gets loose. From what i could tell the new bolts seem to have a ribbed/raised surface that smooth out over time. After replacing the two bolts last summer, i haven’t had this issue.

I don’t know how to attach images here’s a link to a diagram that is helpful. Bolts 11 and 12 is what you’ll need and note that there are 2 12s.

Thanks man. I’ll see about ordering these. I wish I knew how to tag people or I’d just tag Jimmy in this post. I’ll see about getting these bolts to get them swapped in though.

A simple metric tool set would be sufficient and a few longer extensions. Any auto parts store will have something on sale at some point. Try and get a set with over 188 pieces and the 1/4; 3/8; 1/2 drive sockets and ratchets. The extensions would be separate. If you own an audi a nice set of torx and triple square sockets will be needed.

As for the bolt underneath, it’s missing a nut likely now. It attaches to the crash bar, there is 2 per side. When you take the bumper cover off you’ll see the two protrusions from the chassis and one of the 4 bolts will be missing.
