how’s Scott’s car doing? GTs and spray, that car should move pretty good.
oooof, not to rag on your buddy’s car, but if my 535awhp car only trapped a hair under 120 I’d be livid. I know Audis aren’t ideal for 1/4 mile racing (the traps most people get for the power output is garbage, just my honest opinion, weight, gearing, powerband all contribute) but a 535whp car should be 130+ or you did something wrong (in selecting the turbos possibly).
Beem, he was definitely not happy with the time, but he attributes that more to driver error than the car’s performance.
Out of curiosity I wouldn’t mind seeing some info as to why the tial’s are frowned upon. I was under the impression that there were some pretty fast b5s4’s using tial 770’s.
I just looked around last night, couldn’t find anything on nitrous runs. It would be pretty awesome if JHM used it on their b5s4 and set some ridiculous time ;D Not gonna lie if I find an untainted b5s4 with decent mileage (highly unlikely) I might jump ship like Rod did :o
see for me the lack of trap speeds for the 770s is why I’m skeptical… that 775awhp car should be around 1000bhp… even with a shitty driver it should have 140mph+ traps in it.
There is no data becuase these guys wont go get it, unless its FATs times, dyno sheets or 60-130 times which dont do much for me personally.
^Beem couldn’t have been more right (as usual). Also to expand a little bit from what I understand, beyond their ridiculous lag time on the bit Tial turbo’s and thus poor power band, one the main complaints is the very small diameter that the hot gasses have to escape through after the turbo. They have this huge compressor side capable of great amount of air being pumped into the system, but the system is only as good as it’s weakest link. Having the relatively tiny exhaust side means HUGE psi has to be pushed through them to get good power, thus 30psi+ etc. For a turbo that can pump that much air on the intake side, there should be no reason that such a high psi must be attained in order to meet the desired airflow.
The strong ko4 times are mid 120’s and pushing almost half the psi of some the Tials. The kos/rs6’s ET’s are often lower due to a quicker spool for a better power band as well. But if the Tails hare half of what they should be, their traps should at least be through the roof, kinda like the big turbo supra’s etc. But. . . they’re just not.
And also to echo Beem, even with a poor driver and any other excuses, the trap won’t change much. There’s a great video of VAST testing their GT build back in the day, they’re doing several passes but only really launch on the last one. The first one’s they’re almost rolling off the line, then when they launch the last one and cut a 1.7 or 1.8, the trap only went up 1-3mph while the ET showed a HUGE difference. So as Beem is saying, even if the Tial guys don’t want to launch their cars (Biggest bitch excuse in the world to me, spend 15g building a monster then are afraid to even use it!), the rest of it just does add up to be anywhere near the hype or claim. I think this spring is going to be the final straw b/c no more excuses of “build not done” or “tuning not complete” or “bad conditions/track closed” after all the down time during the winter.
everyone will tell you how fast the tial 770 cars are but no one will ever show you how fast they are. Why? cause none of them are trully impressive fast.
In real life and not cartoons this can’t and won’t ever happen on that setup, the few 770 cars that made decent power where all on shop cars/friends cars in a very controlled enviorment and did run 125 shot lol! A 200 shot proved to be fatal for the built S4 motors. 700whp cars that barely trap mid 120ss :
So the 200 creeper shot is the limit for even built s4 engines? Was it direct port. dry, or wet shot? Any more info on this?
I wonder if the real limits of a well built b5 s4 engine have been reached. I know the Poland car is running some serious numbers. Wish there was more information on that car, as it seems to be the fastest 2.7t that i have seen.
burning coals or DSHOT … one of them had their pistons actually melt
the other one ran 12.5 @ 125 at the dragstrip (as his best of the night). If he’s making 650 whp (claimed to be the fastest B5 in the world in that douchebag Jason@AMD’s signature) that car ought to run 11.0 @ 140 mph with an absolutey SHIT driver. With a good driver mid 10s. Instead, it ran mid 12s…and trapped about 15 mph below where everyone thought it would/should. Those cars are dyno fast. That’s about it. The whole Tial game is a bunch of smoke and mirrors.
After watching EPL pollute the B5 section with dynos and bullshit, I had enough. They had an ‘official tial results thread’ full of 500 whp dynos for the Tial 605 cars. Strange that the fastest one ran 12.3 @ 117 lol.
The way the B5 world works is you post dynos on your inhouse dyno to say how great you are. Then you get your first customers to post FATS times (a 4200-6500 RPM rip in third gear which none of the B5 guys know was invented to compare apples to apples car vs. car by one tuner because the B5 has a throttle restriction up until 4000 rpm that none of the retard tuners knew enough to disable back in the day). Of course your customer wants to do you and his car proud so he runs on a road he knows is a slight downslope, in order to feel good about himself.
So…I started a thread for the Tial 605, in order to see what the fastest timeslip was, under my alias just browsing. I called the thread OFFICIAL TIAL 1/4 MILE RESULTS THREAD - NO DYNOS, NO FATS, NO TRICKS
ONLY ONE Tials car has ever run in the 11s…and he tuned his car himself. None of the EPL or AMD cars are even in the 11s…not even the 770 cars.
Fastest time car was a great driver who cut a 1.6 60’ time, nailed every shift and ran 11.98 @ 116.8. He did so on pump gas, but with METH, and a full modlist. Nice guy, local, who tuned his own car. Let’s see where the fastest ever Tial time stacks up vs some cars we’re familiar with:
11.79 @ 116.3 B8 S4 APR bolt ons + racegas - PrimeTime
11.83 @ 116.5 B7 RS4 APR/JHM SC + pump gas - Keith
11.87 @ 119.1 B7 RS4 APR/JHM SC + pump gas - RocketMan
11.92 @ 116.8 B8 S5 APR SC + pump gas - Keith
11.92 @ 116.5 B6 S4 JHM SC + pump gas - 91GL
11.96 @ 116.0 B6 S4 JHM SC + pump gas - jaybquick
11.96 @ 115.7 B8 S4 APR bolt ons + racegas - 81bear
11.98 @ 116.8 B5 S4 Tial 605 + pump gas/meth - notorious VR
If the fastest ever Tials B5 time were a B6, a B7 or a B8, he’d be 3rd in each platform
Crazy…but everyone thinks these Tial cars are the fastest cars in the Audi world. A ton of them have been to the strip as the thread on AZ shows. They all run 12s.
That’s always the way with stage III B5 S4s. Start in third gear or fourth gear and they’ll kill you. Start in 1st gear and they’re behind the 8 ball for quite a while and might not catch you for a while thanks to JHM’s tune making the V8 rip with all of its might right when you stomp the gas. I raced a friend’s stage III B5 with a full modlist…everything from meth to ER IC to fullback to frankenturbos. From 1st to 3rd, I’m well ahead of him and he catches me some time half way through fourth. From 2nd gear roll, I pulled and he catches me right after we get into 4th. From a 60 roll say in 3rd I pull a bit in 3rd, but as we shift to fourth he catches me and is gone. This was my old B7 S4 that ran 12.9-13.0.
Here are a bunch of pulls…the ‘b5 by 3 cars’ title on the first pull is there by accident as you can see. There are about 4 pulls here. MAN I love hearing my old B7 S4. I miss that.
a bunch out there. It would be awesome to have a K04 B5 with a good modlist and a 40 shot of nitrous.
as discussed, ‘easy 12.0 at 119’ means it’s suitable for a 400-420 whp car…not 500. Or as Crisco said a 450 whp 1.8T with a shit curve. Not a 535whp twin turbo 2.7T.
The Tial cars might make good peak numbers, but what nobody dares say is that the guys at EPL don’t know how to tune for the street. They know how to make a car strong on a dyno, or in one gear, but once you have a car shifting through the gears, their tuning acumen (or lack thereof) starts to show up. Everyone blames the driver for these shitty dragstrip passes but it’s the tuner frankly. I don’t think I’m a great driver, but god damn out of 100 passes at the strip in my S4 and RS4 I really only BLEW 2 of them where I gave up after missing second. Of the other 98 I left ESP on twice, but even then my trap speed was the same as on good runs…I just bogged and ESP shut the car down out of the blocks leaving me with a 2.1 60’ both times, but as I said I was still able to rip through 2-3-4 without any problem, and without powershifting or anything (never have) I’m still trapping well.
Even a 2.1 60 foot time in a 500+whp twin turbo B5 should produce a 125-130 mph trap speed.
that’s what everyone does in B5 land…for some reason they’d rather blame themselves than admit they’ve been had. It’s weird. I’d rather scream fuck you to EPL/AMD to protect the rest of the forum from making the same mistake.
very reasonable post. You have to remember, the B5 world is broken down like this
50% are stage 0, 1 or 2…in other words are still on K03 turbos
20% are stage 3 with K04 turbos but not full stage 3 (stock fuelling or tuning, or exhaust or intercoolers)
20% are stage 3 proper with K04 turbos and supporting mods
7% are stage 3 with big turbos like RS6 or GT
3% are Tial guys
So, the majority of the forum shouldn’t care when you point out how Tials are failing, performance wise. In fact they should all stand up and say ‘yeah what the fuck is with that?’ For whatever reason though, a big portion of the 50% who are basically driving 250whp cars seem to be Tial bodyguards…and they flip out when you question Tials. Don’t worry about them. The guys who have a clue will see posts like Joe’s and the one by the B5 guy who posted right after him as sensible. Hopefully it gets them talking.
Also interesting is the fact that the stage 0,1,2 guys are basically B6 fast or slower. The stage 3 minus guys are B6 with JHM tune/full exhaust fast. The stage 3 proper guys are mostly APR/ASP/AWE off-the-shelf and those cars are basically PES/VF SC B6/7 S4 fast…maybe a little faster…kind of JHM SC with modest modlist like countvohn’s tip B6 S4 that ran 12.2-12.3 in the teens MPH with JHM SC/exhaust.
That leaves about 15% of the stage 3 cars that are legitimately fast…i.e. low low 12 or getting into the 11s and trapping 118+. And as we all know, 1/4 to 1/3 of those always have something wrong and aren’t up to potential. Kind of funny when you think of it eh? This is why I NEVER shy away from racing a B5 even if they say they’re stage III. Most of the time they’re stage III OTS or stage III minus and they were pretty much equal with my B7 S4 until 100 when they started to catch up and then pull.
