Non Audi - GTR related

http://www.nagtroc.org/forums/index.php?/topic/76542-2013-stock-gtr-record-run-question/

Not sure how anyone here feels about the GTR’s but I personally am blown away by their performance…time and time again. Even if this isn’t a popular car option for this crowd the engineering behind this machine is simply stunning and I think can be appreciated by any car enthusiast. If you’re interested take a peek at the link. Massively impressive imo.

I plan to add either a 2013+ GTR or 2013 E63 to the garage in the future. The GTR which i first couldn’t stand the looks of is seriously growing on me more and more each day. (I would keep the RS because I love it too much to get rid of)

yeah same here. They’re freakish.

p.s. R…

lol - I didn’t see that post in that thread. Oh well.

I mentioned this on AW…it’s funny how the timeslip is cut off…and the video doesn’t zoom in to see the clocks. We just hear his wife announce “10.7-” then her voice gets cut off by the end of the video.

I wondered aloud if kevkev bought a GTR when he sold his ‘11.6’ second B8 S4

Saki, You’re doing WHAT?

j/k - that’s how TMZ does things though. my wife loves that show. They take some shocking topic, then show a video clip of a celebrity saying something passing it off as their response to that topic.

eg. TMZ voice over announces that Tom Hanks loves how Lindsay Lohan keeps showing her beaver to the media then they cut to stock footage of Tom Hanks with a microphone in his face saying “I LOVE IT!”

Meanwhile the footage of Tom Hanks is from an unrelated interview 6 years ago commenting on what he thought of the Bosox winning the world series.

same here this…

They are amazing in stock form and just plain RIDICULOUS modified! It’s definitely between modified GTR’s and UR TTG for king of the streets.

I know who recorded that race  He’s on this site. The Lambo owner wasn’t running the “kill tune” he thought he was lol…big “oops” and it’s caused somewhat of an uproar on the forums.

I wondered some of the same but it can be verified with some digging I’m sure.

not my platform…hopefully they have their own system of vetting times!

I will say though…that time wouldn’t have made it onto our list with what was provided.

there is a 2013 black edition sitting at the dealer near your house… you should go test drive it

I was between a 2009 Orange GTR similar to this one and the S5. Bought the S5 because it looks so much better but Im sure if I would have driven the GT-R the performance may have trumped the S5 looks BUT i always rationalized once I supercharge S5 I would be much happier in the long run! Didnt expect the 2013 GT-R to be so much faster than the 2009s!

^^ I’ve never been inside a GTR but I imagine there are few interiors nicer than the S5’s. GT-R for out and out speed, S5 for a daily driver you can live with.

The interior of the GTR isn’t bad. Not plush, and not something for a long trip (more than 400 miles let’s say).

One of my best friends bought one so I have had the enjoyment of riding around in it quite a bit and driving it once or twice. Amazing vehicle, ridiculous speed, fantastic handling, especially for a car that was under $100k. If I had not been so dead set on getting the RS4, I would have gotten the GTR.

Maybe some day.

So for $15k you can transform a stock 2010 GTR from a mid-low 11sec car to a high-mid 9sec car! WTF…

It is impressive.

I was delighted to see that the AMS Alpha 6 package is about $8K (to start) in parts (labor not included). But, this is a package that can be DIY. To upgrade to the Alpha 9 is an easier transition once you have the 6 in place. I’m sure you can piecemail the package together for less money but I would probably stick with the proven packages from AMS.

The Alpha 6 package is capable of 10.6 with traps around 130 on pump!

I think it provides an increase over stock of roughly 120HP!

It’s a simple philosophy, make the breathing in and out more efficient. Tune is a major player obviosuly but this is as safe and reliable as one can get on stock internals. I’d imagine myself going Alpha 6 after the first 10K-15K miles of ownership and not going further until 50K plus miles. Would be a nice improvment over stock which is already impressive imo.

franly stock GTR performance is just fine by me unless you’re a dragstrip addict and are ultra competitive.

I don’t think I’d mess with supercars, modification wise. Just leave them as they are.

Funny I just watched the Top Gear episode from 2011 when they took the updated GTR around the track - watching Jeremy sweep past the Murcielago SV, Enzo and Veyron to park it at 1:17.8 - impressive stuff for a Nissan you can throw a billion miles on just doing oil changes.

It was also featured in Jeremy’s independent film last year. “Powered Up.” Using a high frame rate camera, they demonstrated that it launches faster than the Mclaren MP412C. And using a radar gun they demonstrated that it held high speed corners better than every other car in the film. Ferraris, Porsches, Lambos. And it was killing them. What was a 95mph corner for the others was a 105mph corner for the GTR. Then Jeremy declared that nothing they could take around that corner could beat the Nissan.

So I’m also a little perplexed as to why you’d want to tinker with something that’s already a world beater straight out of the box.

because race car

Well you’re asking the question in the wrong forum from a demographic standpoint. We own Audis. I suggest polling the thousands of AMS/Switzer/Agency/Ivey etc customers out there who do own GTR’s and modify them. Aside from that, I assume you are directing the question to me since I posted about a theoretical plan about a potential future car purchase - why do people modify super cars at all? Why is there a thriving aftermarket for Lambos/Ferraris/P-Cars/Merc’s etc?? There is an obvious HUGE demand or none of these companies would be in business.

Changing the air filters, freeing up the exhaust path and using a tune that can take advantage of the first two to make the car more efficient is not a huge deal imo. I didn’t say Alpha 12 package with built internals and increased bore with bigger turbos etc. I said Alpha 6 (intake, tune & exhaust.) Possibly Alpha 9 down the road, still stock block and internals and mild boost with larger turbos. The Alpha 6 mods will not affect handling or braking, or any creature comforts they will however make the car faster reliably. I’m perplexed at the thought you might wonder why that wouldn’t be a b-e-n-e-f-i-t. I guess it comes down to personal preference.
