The whole coolant return line with the t-connector and the weird pipe on top looks like it was crammed in afterwards by some backyard hillbilly mechanic. What were they thinking?

I’m having the front return pipe and hoses changed, as well as a new pump/thermostat assembly. To a tune of about 700e… parts only.

Bills do pile up quickly, so I see why most ppl are tempted to leave stuff broken if it ain’t critical. But then it gets super expensive over time.

Oh, Justincredible: what kind of chemical cleaning do you mean? Can we do a diesel/FSI intake clean without removing the intake, say every 7000mi/10000km and be okay? Or do you mean removing intake manifold and spraying chems into the intake tracts and brushing everything off, etc?

Meida blasting IMO isn’t the best as it just leaves too much you can’t see.

Chemical with the intake off is the by far the best way to go.

You can do the chem spray into the intake track as that works. Not as well as the intake off chemical soak method.

The big down fall with the intake on spray method is that the carbon you clean off will go into the cats. And that will destroy the cats. Both the spray is bad for the cats and then the actual carbon that comes off can only go into the cats where it gets clogged and causes issues

Hello everyone. Just purchased my 2008 S6 today! I’ve owned a 2010 A5 6speed and I can say this is worlds above that A5! 117k miles. Fully loaded with every option available I believe. ( carbon fiber, lane departure, adaptive cruise, cold weather package, and warm package too). Just had the carbon cleaning done at 112k, and full service records were provided. Currently driving it back to VA from Texas and this thing is extremely comfortable. My wife has been driving too and loves it.

I have been lurking on here for a while, and I give props to each of you C6 owners. After browsing the rest of the Audi forums , this group clearly is the most mature and helpful out there. Maintenance and modification specifically. All the information helped me with my purchase greatly. I can’t wait to start modding. No APR lol JHM all the way. And the heat soak is real on this car. You really can cook an egg on it :joy:. Here’s a pic of the new pickup and I look forward to learning and contributing to the group. !

Welcome welcome welcome.

I updated your picture as it wasn’t listed in your original post. The car looks fantastic. Always great information here. Lots of super helpful members. Then all of the techs and certified actual mechanics its the place to be if you own an S6 or S8.

Mod wise all I have seen is that anyone that gets or even talks APR and not bashing APR for anything. But anyone that gets or talks an APR Tune over the JHM tune CLEARLY HAS NO FUCKING IDEA what their talking about or doing. I don’t know how many times it needs to be shown that the APR Tune is no faster than stock for people to wise up and not poor that money down the drain.

Remember the JHM intake spacers will pay off big time is cutting down heat and really help add a new level of sustained performance.

Have a fun drive keep us posted.

Welcome, beautiful car!

Thank you.

Welcome, onefasts6!

Hi S6 family
… finally found my way “home”

Have been looking for a forum with Audi S6 V10 knowledge for a while now and finally feel I found the right place.
Also I love your “mantra” … ask anything … we will answer even if the question has been asked before :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

Side note:

I quite “dislike” when the omniscient (is that word correct? …often high ranking users) feel they have to draw the forum-police-badge … just because they have all the knowledge and feel they waste their time posting a solution more than once… don’t get me wrong, I have managed a forum for years and know how it is at times. I use the search function a lot myself so when I look for a solution to a problem I or someone else has and I get 30+ hits but only one post telling me what to do, I really have to hold back not to write my opinion about these specialists … because in fact THEY end up wasting everyone’s time and scaring off many newcomers! At the very least insert a link to the solution…
Sorry… had to get that off my chest in a place where people might even understand me  :grinning:

Sorry:

English is not my native language, so you might get tired of reading my posts… with lack of vocabulary my writing tends to have higher word-count than LIX-value… so “pardon my French”

Who am I:

My name is… well my username tells it all… I have absolutely no imagination, so I always use my real name and since no-one else does, I’m always able to create it
I’m from Denmark, where Kim in fact IS a male name, and as some of you perhaps know (or not?) the car taxes here are ridiculously high, so we tend to maintain our cars very well and drive them until they are “put down”
I have a (not too small) garage (or shop as you tend to call it here) of 46m2 (square meters, roughly 495 square feet) with a lot of tools, Industrial C02 welder and such. For milling and lathe jobs I have a very good friend who lets me use his machines when they are not occupied.
Garage ceiling is unfortunately too low for a lift but I consider getting some sort of QuickJack when I have the cash to spare :grinning::slight_smile::thinking::expressionless::roll_eyes: … just realizing I bought an S6
Well for now I have to get by with my 2 ramps, 2 heavy duty hydraulic car jacks and jack stands… what I’m trying to say is… I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty and have done almost everything on my cars by myself.

My Audi (well, car) history:

I have owned several Audi’s… Audi 100 C3 1.8, Audi 100 C3 Avant 2.2, two Audi A4 B5 1.8t, Audi A6 C6 2.4 V6 and currently I have Audi Cabriolet 1991 2.3, Audi A3 2008 Sportback 1.4tsi (tfsi) and Audi S6 2006 5.2 V10 (specs further down).
In fact I have always been driving VAG cars. Several VW Scirocco I, a VW Beetle T1, VW Golf II GTI 16V, VW Passat 1.8 and V5 but I just LOVE Audi.
Shortly after I bought the S6 I sold the A6 at 540000km (roughly 335000miles). The new owner took it to his favorite mechanic (Audi specialist) who told he had never seen or tried a better example of the 2.4 V6 with even half the mileage
Before I bought the S6 I was on the lookout for about 6-8 months. Reading all info I could find (unfortunately not here) and finally asking in my absolute favorite Audi forum in DK http://audiclub.dk/ … (check it out).
I ended up trying a couple of cars (at the time there were only 3 for sale in all DK in my price range) and decided it should be…

The important stuff:

Well I guess you want some S6 info
My Audi S6 Avant Quattro 5.2 V10 was produced in late 2006 and came with carbon trim, rear parking camera, navigation, adaptive cruise control, door assistant (closing), xenon headlight, detachable tow neck, all black leather (not dash), BOSE sound system, coming-/leaving home light and a lot of other options. Color is IBISWEISS LY9C. The price tag at that time was about 2mill DKK (roughly 318000USD!!! yep… you see 6 figures!!!).

My main concerns were carbon buildup and transmission maintenance and secondary the interior. Mileage, paintjob and other wear parts were not so important as I could fix those (another buddy of mine is a car painter) so it would depend on the price.

The guy I bought it from did not strike me as if he even cared about high service costs. All services had always been done at well reputable shops (only some of them at AUDI) … as he said … if you have to consider cost of ownership, maybe you shouldn’t bye such a car. He imported the S6 from Germany in 2007 with demo-mileage

We negotiated the right price and I even got original 8jx18" Audi rims with next to unused Continental winter tires in 235/45/R18 with in the bargain. The S6 was mounted with 8.5jx19" rims with Dunlop Sport Maxx 265/35/ZR19.
I also got invoices from the last 2 years where all major things had been taken care of. In that time the S6 had only been driving approx… 5-6000km (roughly 3700 miles) of the almost 279000km (roughly 173000 miles) it had been doing all in all the day I bought it
Also the main reason he wanted to sell… never driving the beast anymore… he had a lot of other cars to choose from

Jobs done:

Most of it done right before I bought it.

  • Brake pads and discs front and rear.
  • 10 sparkplugs.
  • Fuel filter.
  • 10 fuel injectors.
  • Lift pump in fuel tank.
  • Both high pressure fuel pumps.
  • Intake manifold (ATP).
  • Carbon clean (I guess… well I hope!).
  • Steering column.
  • Battery.
  • Suction pump (078133753A)?

All in all (some labor invoice missing) about $14K.
At some point he also got all 10 coils new. He couldn’t find the invoice, but I have no reason not to believe him.

Jobs to do:

  • Engine mount (have it).
  • Oil and all filters change.
  • The 2 small flex pipes (done a redneck-delete for now… can’t find them anywhere!!).
  • Perhaps transmission and diff. flush???

The original owner was quite sure the oil had been changed in the transmission a couple of times but had no evidence!

Wishlist:

  • K&N filters (if possible cold air … box-delete???)
  • After reading here… perhaps a JHM tune???
  • JHM intake spacers???
  • Perhaps new paintjob (same color).
  • New front windshield (when doing paintjob).
  • Perhaps new summer rims!

Notes:

I have already been driving approx… 12000km (roughly 7500miles) in 9 months. Mostly long journeys… German autobahn is GREAT … had it kissing 280km/h (almost 174m/h) at one point… but didn’t have the nerve to look at my GPS speed so I don’t know how fast that was IRL. Original owner mentioned that it was perhaps VMAX moded, but I’m unsure. Felt like it didn’t want to go faster (suddenly held back) although it could have (just a feeling).
One stretch of approx… 100km at night (low traffic density) our average speed was well over 220km/h (calculated)… that’s over 136m/h and the car did just great, no head problems and no “hickups” :grinning:
When I got over 210 in my prior A6 C6 I had to concentrate as I do in the S6 at 280 LOL  its just built for speed :sunglasses:

Every time I drive it my right foot somehow gets very heavy (after engine oil has reached operating temp. of course and) when the road and traffic allows it… not necessarily the pol… … Denmark is not Germany you know

When I cold start, it revs higher, as is normal, and I never put it in drive before it goes below 800RPM because it hooks a bit hard. When transmission oil is warm(er) it shifts very soft.
I have never had any shifting issues at all unless I drive from cold when engine is revving higher.

I have had some funny engine errors but I think I will post that in the Info Dump thread.

Have 12 more pictures I wanted to show you (not allowed) … just love that car :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Thanks for having me (sorry for the long text)

Welcome. This is the forum for people who love cars and don’t have egos. I too hate the concept of telling someone to search for an asnwer. If you want to drop a link I think that can be nice of members. But when you think about it some people say search. Well who knows what data someone will find when they search. Perhaps there are more than one posts. Either way. Welcome. Ask away and after a few posts you should be able to load up your pictures for all to see.

You really lucked out. Parts wise it looks like the car was well taken care of and in most cases you get people who sell the cars right as they get into the “needs work” stage.

So performance wise. K&N is a win. OPEN air or box delete is a complete waste of time and ends up hurting the car not helping.

Performance wise ECU and TCU… JHM hands down by far no one is even close.

Lots of good videos but everyone you talk to will tell you JHM is deeply committed to the platform. The intake spacers are a second great support thing to get. — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rm0sk58B5U

Thanks @justincredible … I will try to post the rest now

Make sure to request an x pipe in place of the “h”. This will make it sound awesome

I’m doing high flow catalytic converters to a x-pipe back to magnaflow bullet mufflers.

Are you going to drop the motor to do this?

Unfortunately yes but the shop that is going to do the work said that they might be able to make it work without dropping the whole engine.

Depending on the mileage of your car, you may want to consider replacing O2 sensors and some other “while you are there” items.

O2 sensors are on the agenda. Started throwing that code last week so going to get those done.
