Hey all! Got pointed over here by v8a6 from the AZ forums. Didn’t realize there was actual love for the v10 S6!

Anyhow, thought I’d introduce myself. I picked up my 2007 S6 about 1.5 years ago with 65k miles on it. Lucky for me the previous owner had already replaced the intake manifold and done a full carbon clean at a local deal @ 55k miles (verified with the dealership). So much awesome S6 info on here! Thanks again for the invite v8a6!

Model: 2007 S6

Hey Brenden… Welcome to AudiRevolution !!!

Nice car! The fact that the intake manifold has been swapped, and the carbon clean done, is worth almost three grand to you. What we are finding recently, is that almost ever early S6 with the original version of the intake manifold, has internal damage when opened (mine included). There was a revised version, but Im not sure if it really resolved the problems. I’m going to be starting a thread soon to track this specific issue.

As you noticed, there are more active S6 guys over here than all the other forums combined, as well as lots of expert Techs who are very generous with their time. As a v10 S6 owner, it is a great place to hang out, and learn about your car.

Yeah I was very happy to find that those two items had been done already. I’m thinking I might be close to due on the carbon clean again though. I’m currently at 70k miles and I’ve noticed the cold starts are starting to get a little rough…no CEL though.

Excited to see what happens with your performance upgrades! Those headers look amazing!

I’ve got a couple of oddities I’ve been trying to figure out with my S6 since I got it, hope to be able to find answers here!

Hello everyone!

Finally got myself to register here where one can find some love for the C6 S6

Car is a 2007 S6 Avant:

  • bought it 2nd hand from an Audi dealership @ 71k miles over a year ago, currently has about 79k miles
  • Quartz grey
  • only “mod” so far is a RS6 style grille and new floor mats

Some info about the journey so far… Engine had a knock and reported it to the dealer straight away. Dealer and Audi took the hit after some serious discussions on replacing the ?small block? is it (lower part of engine) due to scoring on cylinder walls. Cost was about 22k € :open_mouth: We agreed that they change any worn/broken parts as they strip the front apart and do a carbon clean if necessary (I agreed to pay for the actual cost of cleaning). Asked for photos to prove the current state, as they decline any major issues with that, LOL. Well, no photos, but they told me no need for CC… Was a bit mad, but we’ll see how I proceed with this matter. I live in Finland, so maybe the good 98/99 octane fuel we have here helps, dunno… Oh, and they took care of a coolant leak, which appeared to be a corroded hose clip somewhere behind the engine, PITA to find they said and that surely is the case with all kinds of leaks :).

I will disclose the current problems in another thread to not make this too long  If I forgot something, please remind me

Also, sorry for no pic at this point, but I can’t find my camera’s SD card… Will post ASAP.

Looking forward to discuss about our cars with fellow V10 S6 owners (or anyone else with knowledge for that matter)!

Cheers,
J

hey Johnny!!! Welcome to AudiRevolution !!!

You have the honor of being the first v10 S6 Avant owner to join the site, so you will have a lot of people anxiously awaiting your pics. I love Avants, and we never got the v10 Avant in North America.

Did you get the short block replaced? The issue of cylinder wall damage on these cars is something I am tracking. Engine replacement under warranty is not as rare as I previously had thought. I have a feeling, that like in the Porsche engines (Cayenne, 911, and Cayman), it has to do with cold climates, and short block/cylinder expansion during warm up.

Looking forward to your thread outlining your experiences, good and bad, with the car. The more data we collect about these cars, the better informed everyone will be.

Cheers!

Thank you v8a6!

Yes, I suppose it was the short block that was replaced, don’t know the correct term in English for sure though  But “the bottom half” was changed to a new one.

I read somewhere online that these engines may be more prone to cylinder wall damage than other engines (can also be untrue). However it may be, the protective alusil coating wears off (manufacturing defect), the piston(s) starts moving about more and more and progressively worsen the situation, can be heard as a clunking noise. It was also said that the issue often begins already early in the engine’s life and may be the result of not heating the engine up properly before harder driving… This may have been stated here on AR, on Audizine or on some Finnish forum… But the colder climate like you said may as well be a key point!

Btw, one Finnish guy had his short block rebuilt in Sweden for under 9.5k € (Nordic Motor Center) if that’s any useful piece of information. Most of you guys may be better off price-wise? -> but here everything costs an arm and a leg when it comes to cars… For example, my car was 42k € when i bought it - so I would love to move to Germany or something  Short OT, because I can’t help myself: We even pay car tax (CO2 dependent) for accessories, so if you can believe it, a side-lane assist costs more on a 3.0t A6 than on a 2.0tdi, because why not!!!.. This is a topic I could talk about for ages, and is totally OT so I’ll stop before I start crying, then laughing and cry again :’(

Now I’ll stop this rant, start a new thread about my experiences and let the next new guys/girls? introduce themselves. Sorry - I get easily carried away, and that may not be proper forum behavior :-*

Very interesting. That is exactly what is happening with the Lokasil engines in the 996/997 Porsches. The theory is that in extreme cold temperatures, if the engine block is not given sufficient warm up time (up to 15 for the engine oil temp to reach full operating temperature) before pushing the car with high RPM (over 4200RPM) or high load, then the cylinders, which expand quicker, can cause wear on the Lokasil lining and create bore scoring. In extreme cases, you get d-chunk failure. More details here…

Apparently, this damage is more likely to happen on low-mileage cars, where the clearances are tighter as the engine is fresher. So, that is inline with what you are stating too, regarding the v10 S6 engines.

The good news for v10 owners in the US, is that you can get an entire new short block v10 for just over $11k USD. Not a bad price at all. And if you have a core and want a reconditioned short block from Audi, it is a few grand cheaper.

Our of curiosity what was the reason for motor and trans replacement? Neglected service on both? What did that run you, I imagine that was 10k motor 8k trans? Or was this done by previous owner?

Looks great though!

It’s kinda good news for the cars with a little more miles on them. This is a big deal with the s4 4.2. The blocks actually warp. Cylinder wall scoring is a major issue on the 42 s4. I would love to get oil consumption data from everyone on here and it might not be bad to start compressor testing and cylinder wall inspection

Nice to see all the euro s6 here.

Brendan mind posting up some interior shots? I’ve seen very few white interiors and would love to see the contrast! Cheers!

HELLO ALL…

New guy here. Saw your posts in the Audizine forums and decided to follow up a post that v8a6 posted up and make my way over here.

Welcome.

The car looks great. I dont want to spill the bag but it looks like there is a good stream of mods coming for the V10. I think the best mods right now are the maintenance mods. These cars will eat injectors if they get carboned up.

if you get more pix post em up. The car looks great. Lots of guys here that are very helpful. So if you have questions this is the place to ask them

Thanks man. I’ve had my fare share of misfires and a coil pack here and there in the two years I bought the car.

I’d love to get some exhaust work done so I think that will be my first “mod” per say. I’d love to see what else is slated to come out for the platform though. Maybe I’ll work in an open source tune. We’ll see though.

Welcome to the site! Good to see another S6 join.

Looking forward to some more pics. I love that color on the S6.

Hello everyone. I like this forum a lot. Just read through a load of the S6 threads and I like the attitude here. No ‘ohhh that sounds bad; I’d get rid of your car’; it seems like positive feedback and advice! Anyway, here’s my car:

Model: UK 2006 S6 ~97000 miles

Color: Phantom Black Pearl

No mods (yet). I plan to de-chrome the front and rear, and maybe get a subtle tint to the rear windows. I may have my hands full with maintenance. I’ll post a separate thread for that.

I’ll get some pictures soon I promise. I’ve not had chance to give the car a good polish yet due to being busy and British weather.

Finally getting around to making my first post on this site, nice to find a site with someone that knows something about the V10 S6. These cars are awesome, nothing like the sound, need to make mine a little louder, just not sure how far to go!

My Car: 2008 S6, 110K, bought with 45K 3 years ago. Phantom Black, Carbon Interior, Hot Weather, Stitched Dash
Mods: Basically Stock, OEM RS6 Grill, various VagCom edits

Future Mods: Exhaust, springs or coil overs.

Next Projects: Change tranny fluid, pull intake, Spacers?, carbon clean, fix oil fill leak.

Pictures coming…

Pictures coming…

Lots of good stuff going on now in the V10. Nice to see a long time owner. Looking forward to pictutes. Most guys just start new threads. Welcome

Any other new s6 posters join? We need more pictures of these beasts

Hi Everyone,

I just bought myself a 2007 S6, 130k miles, Phantom Black, Technology Package, Sirius, Leather dash,

After resolving the battery issue - caused by the seller charging directly off the battery instead of the under-hood terminals - I’ve replaced the battery control module (latest version 6) and a new Audi spec battery. All the basic maintenance has been gone through and she’s running like a dream. I guess at some point I’ll take a deep breath and do a carbon clean!

I upgraded the badly curbed stock wheels to A7 20’s with 265/35/20 Conti DWR tires. I also added a thicker R8 air-leather steering wheel with carbon paddle extensions, the newer stop/start silver button, OSRAM Nightbreaker bulbs and K&N filters.

Exhaust mods and a tune to come.

I’m in Portland, OR.

Welcome! You’re in the right place, most of us are fellow S6/S8 owners in here. Car looks great! I never even thought about swapping out the steering wheel for an R8 one, I’d love to see a picture of that!
