Welcome leec you might want to do a bit of reading before you get the APR tune. So far a few people have tried the tune and several of them have not been happy. There is a better tune available from JHM. They have had the tune in testing for over a year with proven results. It might be wroth the wait.
Another fun fact on why it might make sense to wait to hear about the JHM tune before spending the money on another tune. The calabrator for JHM that wrote the JHM tune is the one that APR has used to help them on tunes in the past. So I would highly suggest looking into the JHM tune.
Not that I would ever suggest anyone goto AZ for good information but here is a NA S4 poll on what tunes people get for the NA 4.2 S4. The same is going to be true on the 5.2 S6. You had a lot of people buy a tune twice because they didnt buy a JHM tune the first time http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/402306-Chips-Poll-with-customer-review
I bought the wheel āas isā on eBay - it came with the carbon paddle extensions.
They look like many that are advertised online that simply stick to the back of the stock aluminum paddles. The extensions do flex a little when pushed on but not at all on the pull that is normally used to change gear.
The ergonomics are marginally enhanced, though I canāt say Iād recommend to rush out and buy some.
Interesting. Looks great but not over done. I like the look of itā¦ Im trying now to remember the stock S6 steering wheel is just a smooth wheel with no cutouts the the R8 wheel right.
Looks good! Subtle but a little thicker and with the mesh grip itās probably better if your hands get sweaty. I was thinking the the paddle extensions would replace the original paddles, but now I understandā¦Was it pretty much plug and play?
Plug and play (disconnecting battery first!) - took all of a few minutes.
I did manage to forget to put a line on the 12 Oāclock position when I took the old wheel off, so now I have to redo it and nudge the new wheel around one notch to get it running straight on the road! Doh!
The new stop/start is a low cost improvement on my old scratched one that was showing the signs of age and wear. Works a treat and 60 sec install!
Hey guys, new S6 owner in DFW. Picked up the car for what I consider a good price @ $13,900.
It has 83k on the clock and I know it needs a valve carbon cleaning, new CV boot as well as some new sway bar connecting links. I have a long history of owning VAG cars and this will be my daily for awhile (Iām hoping). Iām excited to dig through all the useful information on the site.
Tried uploading some pics but it says the upload folder is full.
ok, Iāve been lurking here on and off for the last couple of yearsā¦time to post. I hear this is the board to be on for S6 owners.
I have a 2008 Quartz Gray S6 that I bought May 2014 with 61k miles after my '09 A4 was totaled when rear-ended. Iām a few weeks from the car rolling 100k milesā¦itās been a long journey. Iāve really enjoyed the car (when not dealing with the typical DI-related engine issues), and wouldnāt mind keeping it going to 200k+ miles. Iāve endured the typical carbon and fuel injector struggles, but I think Iām finally coming out on the other side and am entering maintenance mode. Thereās a lot of satisfaction in keeping a car going into high mileage, especially one as fickle as this.
Work Iām planning for this spring/summer:
replace seized tensioner, serpentine belt, and idler pulley bearing; can someone tell me if there is a carrier lock service position for this car? where can I find steps to get at this tensioner?
possibly replace w/p āwhile Iām in thereā
replace trans fluid and filter
replace front and rear diff fluid and transfer case fluid
give the front and rear suspension a good look-last mechanic mentioned upper control arm bushings need to be replaced; who knows where this will lead
took a piece of steel to the front bumper on the highway a few weeks ago; will have to repair that
Thought/opinions welcome. I still consider myself relative new to Audi although Iāve owned one as a daily driver since 2011. Iāve always maintained my own cars, but not too much with these so far. I plan on rolling my sleeves back up.
And, c.scott, what is that wheel out ofāI love it! I see it has the āS6ā emblem, but looks like an R8 wheel. (Sorry, I really am learning these cars still :-[) It would go great with the white stitching on my leather upholstered dash!
Welcome to the forum. Its always great to get more excited 5.2 guys on here.
A few things. This is not like the other forums. So if you have a question ask. dont hesitate to ask anything. There is a large group here that are experts in all aspects. So your bound to find help is you ask for it.
the 5.2 is just like the 4.2fsi. The big deal is doing the proper maintentance work and knowing what the car needs and when
I wouldnt be shy about starting a new thread for your car and what your doing. Just about everyone has done it and the idea is to help act as a road map to helping others.
To quickly answer your questions.
Not sure what your asking about on the carrier lock. so no comment there.
To do the belt system your going to want to pull the front end off the car including the core suppport.
You can also change out the crank pulley with a LW unit from JHM. JHM make a lot of great performance parts and they have a nice list of compeditive OEM parts to help keep these builds in check.
On the water pump thats not a bad idea while your in there you will be doing that the same time you do the belt system and crank pulley
Transmission filter you need to be careful on. The sooner you do that the better. The later you wait the more the clutches have broken down and that clutch material is actually in the transmission fluid. Depending on how much brake down you have this extra clutch material in the transmission fluid actually acts like a supportive additive. Some have changed there transmission fluid with higher miles and they report slippage of the clutches due to the new transmission fluid being possibly too slick
The front and rear dif is a safe fluid swap
The suspension control arms and busings are nothing new. They go bad and you want to keep an eye on them. A good rear sway bar will help keep the car more firm on its feet so that might be a good thing to look into as well.
If you want to do all the work. your in the right place. We have it from time to time where we almost are working with other members around the globe real time when they are working on there cars. If they run into an issue we all try to jump in to help give them a good walk through or idea on how to fix or find the issue

Been a fun struggle with this car. Air Suspension transformed this car into a comfortable cruiser on the highway and with a few turns on the adjustable shocks to sports car stiff. Itās been a great mod, especially being able to adjust suspension compliance.
Having said that out of all the cars Iāve worked on (I do all my own work) this wasnāt so bad. If you have moderate mechanical skill Iād say give it a go.
Iām living in the UK and ended up being the proud owner of a red S6. Iām new to Audiās as Iāve been a Volvo fan for years. But Iām glad I puchased my S6 other than the big bills and stuff going wrong! Sadyl Iām not gifted with DIY skills either. LOL
The good news is if you get all the maintantence stuff done the car will be good for many many miles. The JHM mods are great mods that will really help keep the car happy and much more powerful. Its a big change over stock. Makes the car perform list it should
I posted a good few emails to JHM when researching some mods, they really seem knowledgeable. I purchased the OBD flash cable when I purchased the IM spacer and cleaning products, but hasnāt flashed due to problem (below).
Iāll be posting up some separate posts on here soon as I have a IM fault thatās sticking open the flaps. The garage I am using are up to most tasks, but not opening the IM. But knowing the miles my car has, along with some oil down in the V, I may need the engine pulling out for a bit of an overhaul. I may need to rob a bank or win the lottery ;D
