Official RS5 supercharger thread!

So does the RS6 STronic 2016 flexplate defo fit and did you have to get anything done to it or is it a straight swap i know you guys were talking about getting it balanced ?
Thanks

All indicators are itā€™ll work. I believe Peter did have it balanced too.

Hi guys! Finally bothered to register on the forum  Yahya JH here, aka @pixelstagger on instagram. I have a supercharged RS5 engine swap in a five-door A5 sportback body with numerous supporting mods.

Itā€™s the same PES whipple supercharger setup but I have a custom charge cooler setup put together by the previous owner of the supercharger kit.

Total supporting mods from memory are:

  • Customer larger dual pass charge cooler, with motorsport piping and motorsport charge cooler coolant tank (itā€™s aluminium rather then plastic)
  • Custom transmission cooler
  • Custom drive plate piece
  • Custom ECU/gearbox remap by QSTuning

My car is tuned by QS Tuning have written their own ECU and gearbox tune. Their tune is less aggressive than other tunes in terms of bhp numbers, because in their research the other tunes were too aggressive for the engines and are very familiar with the stories of engines being blown by the charger etc.

Just wanted to mention that I have the same flexplate/driveplate piece that Dirk/Alee have, and this part was also recently ordered for a supercharged RS5 cabriolet that I came across at QSTuningā€™s premises. That cabriolet had the driveplate crack after only 3,000 milesā€¦! But I am told the owner drives the car like he stole it. That driveplate piece isnā€™t unique to teh RS5 itā€™s in many vehicles when you look the part number upā€¦ in total I think thatā€™s now three supercharged RS5s with this driveplate piece

QSTuning recently installed an Eventuri intake and did before/after dyno runs.

Before run:

Peak estimated bhp at the crank 563.5

After run:

Peak estimated bhp at the crank 573.8bhp

Gained a nice 10.3bhp at the top end, and lost a little bit of bhp at the bottom.

Really glad that there is a thread like this that exists!!! Itā€™s such a rare setup and so good to see fellow enthusiasts here to help share findings and help each other out!!!

All balanced and ready to go.

Iā€™m awaiting a 4wd dyno to be built two streets away from me and should be finished by next week as I have other issues with this dl501 before I drop it out. Apologies for the delay.

My research tells me you would actually weaken the plate by welding it.

Looks great! Cannot wait to see your final results. Iā€™m sure youā€™ll be quite excited when itā€™s finished.

Yes Michel said it would weaken it thatā€™s a shame. However looks like you have found a cheap solution, it looks great canā€™t wait for you to fit it and see how it compares to the RS5 flex plate !!

Any updates on the S6 flex plate?

Oooo yes any updates on this ?

Also @Ape_Factory how you getting on with your guy regarding having something made up ?

I really want to see if the S6 plate will work before investing time/money in that. I had another RS5 owner contact me, OEM tune, his flex plate blew. Had chunks of the outer ring come off. I think itā€™s actually a fluke. On the SC cars, itā€™s the center that rips out.

It would be good to know if this S6 flex plate will actually work ?

Peter just got his car up and running. Heā€™s going to report back here soon with photos! But so far so good, heā€™s driving around on the new flex plate. He had a few other issues but Iā€™ll let him chime in on that so as not to spoil the fun.

Thatā€™s true.

Here is the RS6/RS7 flex plate mounted on the back of the engine. Fits perfectly and works just as well.
The shiny section is where I had the plate balanced due to the RS5 reving more than the others.
The JHM flywheel mounted up perfectly and my existing flywheel wasnā€™t in great shape and needed to be replaced.
I replaced the clutches as well and went for the Borg Warner clutch disks. Clutch 2ā€™s plates were burnt around the edges slightly, being smaller than clutch 1.
We also noticed, by the color of the cables, the Mechatronics harness was a Gen 1, which was recalled apparently, so we put a kit through to upgrade this harness the Gen 3, the latest which included new clutch solenoids.
My issue with the gearbox prior was it seemed to be sliding into 3rd and 2nd on a down shift and didnā€™t seem to be able to get the power through the gearbox but thatā€™s has gone and is a clean shift now. No performance runs yet but I will advise in due course.
The trouble Michel mentioned was on returning the negative battery terminal to the battery the ECU was damaged. The damage created misfires on cylinders 1,3,4 & 7 above 2300 rpm with the engine light blinking and no faults showing in VCDS. If you attempted to power through the rev range, the car would enter limp mode, run very rough at idle, and again with no faults in vcds, but clearing the faults brought the car out of limp Mode. This baffled us for days. The mechanic worked through it, called in some help, replaced the ECU, copied the tune and the car is fine.

Thatā€™s great news! Curious to see how pushing it goes and what we can do to replicate across the pond.

Oh wow that looks ace and great news it fits and works as you hoped it would, i had my fingers crossed it would work out for you !! Sounds like it runs like it should do and no different from the RS5 flex plate apart from it will take the abuse by being stronger !!

I am now defo going down this route as i am putting in new clutch plates very soon and have the JHM LWFW already in this will finish the job off nicely
It sounds like you had your troubles along the way with the ECU but got it sorted in the end thankfully.
Keep us posted please on how it goes once you have put it through its paces and well done you for being the one to try this out first good job :+1::blush:

So much car porn. Really appreciate the photos!

The gearbox feels very solid, quick to accelerate and wildly gets into dangerous speed territory but then that is the definition of an RS5 we love. Iā€™ve done about 120kms since the rebuild without issue and a part from idle running a little rich and a small amount of surging, that doesnā€™t show on the tachometer btw, Iā€™m really happy with the result.

Thatā€™s fab news @Petere thanks for letting us guys know how she feels and how she is running :+1: Iā€™m about to take the plunge tomorrow with the RS6 flex plate and Iā€™m having everything re-balanced LWFW and Flex plate for good measure. Also having new clutch plates put in Borg Warner friction plates and Exedy Steels and new fluids Liquid Molly 8100 ATF and Motul Gear 300 MTF ! Canā€™t wait ā€¦
