Our 08 S8 In Ice Silver

we ended up buying that 08 S8 from Toronto.
Wonderful, just brilliant. Definitly the bast high speed highway cruiser I have ever been in.

this is by far the quietest and sure footed high speed driving i have ever done. What a brilliant machine. The dual pane windows are amazing.

Had it alined on a nice hunter inground unit, and balnced the tires. Its tome for new ones but i still have a bit of driving to do on these ones. Well worrth the time and few dollars for a super smooth ride.

But, used quite a bit of oil in these 800 miles we did this weekend.
I made sure it was at the max line on the dip stick before we left, and got a low oil warning near home, so i put in half a quart to bring it back to the stock level. Really? the warning will go off with it half a quart low with a 10 litre capacity? Owners manual states wait 2 minutes for the oil to drain down. I dont think I waited that long. On the dipstick when i pulled it out the oil was at the MIN level.
No way the engine is hurt, thing pulls way too good and is very smooth. I suspect the PCV or oil mist separator contraption is to blame. Pulled the oil cap off and it has a very strong vacuum there at idle-leads me to suspect the valve is stuck open with gunk.
Does anyone have a crankcase vacuum spec for this engine ?
I could pull it off with one hand, but it definitely sucks your hand pretty hard when you try t cover the fill hole with it.

It looks like on the v10, the PCV and oil separator is right there beside the bank 1 throttle body, easily acessable…

Where are the pics  it is a hwy screamer!

first mods, lowered the front 10 mm with VCDS and changed the plate lights to LED.
This is my wifes car, hence the plate.

Great pics the car looks great.

All aluminum motors eat a little oil but that is a bit much.

If there is carbon build up that can cause excess oil consumption as well as a faulty or old oil separator and PCV system. Do a compression test to give yourself a good idea on how the motor has held up. Most of the V10 cars test 180 and over.

Great looking car

I shall do so in a few weeks when I have more time to tool around with it.
Right now I checked the oilcap again, indeed there is manifold, or near manifold vacuum in the crankcase-far too much. The car stumbles with the oil cap removed. I ordered a cheap ebay PCV replacement for it as a quick experiment to see if it is a torn membrane in it.

did 700 miles this weekend, detroit to toronto and a bunch of WOT pulls in town. Checked oil this morning, same level  looks like the new PCV did the trick.

Dont be too upset if over time there is some oil consumption. all of the Aluminum motors everything from RS4 to the new S4 consume some oil.

Yes I do expect .5-1 quart between oil changes, which is acceptable. Doing half a quart in 800ish miles was completely unacceptable.

Good news.

I agree.

gpt the old belt off prety easy, just took belly pan off. i like that the tension is manually set. easier to get belt on, then tension it, and lock it down.

^woops that was supposed to go into my belt change thread.

couple weeks ago I also replaced the 4 upper inner control arm bushings. the two fronts were completely separated the rears were close behind.

we LOVE this car. my wife gets a crazy amount of looks driving it and filling it up at the gas station.

more pics.

this one is before lowering the front 10mm.

the car treated us very nice, 22mpg on the freeway, approx 18 through the hills as we were driving spirited.

The car looks terrific. Not bad gas mileage for a bigger car with a bigger motor. Add that JHM tune and you might be able to eek a few more MPG out of it.

Beautiful car!

a crappy snow fun video.

I love the sound when you played the throttle like that.

A few quick notes as a FYI.

dont do any donuts in the snow or if you do keep them to just a few. The PS lines like to fail if you do too much steering lock or full sweep usage.

Love the video. Is that the 696 wall back there in the back drop.

That was some nice snow throw from the wheels.

the exhaust does sound amazing, wish the camera caught more of it!
point taken on the steering wheel workout.

no not 696, jaycee park in pontiac
