I saw a DIY from from E90 post with a guy using a real small roller, and had wondered if anyone had successfully painted their own trim (RS4)???

I personally would not be happy with that. u can still see the roller marks. rolling paint on a car just seems wrong on so many levels.
Two options IMO
I personally wasn’t going to buy an RS4 until a titanium one came along because I hated the chrome trim on my B7 S4
Dip it!
I agree with u swag. the only other option considerable is professional paint.
Its already dipped. I just was looking to see if anyone had tried the option. Wrapping just seems so expensive…
The guy spending thousands on forged wheels thinks $300 for wrapping trim is expensive?
There’s a disconnect there !
Huge disconnect.
Marcus you were so contemplating bags, that’s like another $6k to do it right.
$300 to wrap (looks great if done right and will be pretty durable)
$870 for OEM titanium trim, plus 8hrs install time…let’s say $1500 for the real thing. You could just dip the trunk trim and remove the grille (the chrome surround can be separated) and have that professionally painted for pretty cheap or DIY.
8 hrs? It’d take a dealer or body shop 2 hrs.
im happy with 300 for the wrap. it is durable too Andre gave a one year warrantee against bubbling or peeling and he said not to wash the car for 3 days but after that u can pressure wash, do whatever and it will be fine.
Fully understood. Just was asking. Thought I could save a little to put to other things since I have done similar in the past. Vinyl is only semi permanent until something tears it. Besides the money going into it now is only temporary, since there is absolutely nothing to spend any money on here. Stateside will definitely take its toll on our monthly intake
I haven’t been too successful in getting real good quotes in Colorado Springs, and dudes in CA were saying 500 to wrap!! It isn’t real easy being 6,000 miles away from civilization and a day ahead.
I think a lot of the appeal of a wrap is that its not permanent if u ever want to return to stock u can easily just peel it off.
the first quote I got was 750 but the guy was a dink. I think he just didn’t want to do it. he seemed very elitist.
the wrap should last about 5 years without issue and longer if u avoid the winter months.
No way it’s 2 hours man, I’d be interested to know if anyone has had it done. Maybe Jimmy can comment on dealer time.
I was just making a guess and figuring $1500 all said and done.
That’s what I am thinking. I can save a hell of a lot if I do it myself. BTW, I was quite the arteeest back in the day. I am pretty good with staying in the lines. I might just do an actual spray with air compressor unit unless I can find a place that has relatively good prices (under 400). Good news is I think I found a solution for my audio predicament. Looking at Dension upgrade for iPod/Bluetooth integration, and hopefully get a newer map disk somehow! That’s saves about 500 to go elsewhere like new improved rear diff mount and maybe tranny mount.
I don’t known if this is a problem with the RS, but on the S4 the door rubber goes over the trim slightly. So if you paint or dip the trim it will eventually start to wear it off. You can only see it when the door is open but thats a big advantage to vinyl if that’s something that might bother you.
The very corner of my driver door has done this with dip, and is now exposed. Thank god for Q-tips!!
pic?
i did the conversion myself, ali trim to oem black optics. its a lot of work, you would do well to do it in 8 hours.
all four door pads to strip off and window frames out to remove the door trims…ball ache.
roof trim, quite easy about 20 rivets to drill out.
rear quarter window trim, needs new glass that comes with the trim attached so window needs cutting out and a new one bonded in.
if that isnt enough of a chew to cut the old window out you have to remove the interior trim round the window, but to do that you have to strip half the rear interior out!.

even vinyl isnt immune to this, over the 18 months my trims were wrapped the drivers door top rubber had rubbed large creases into the vinyl. looked terrible.
