PCV elimination, VTA

Might be a stupid question… but if I remove the filters and just have the cans will that work?

It would. Basically what you’re doing now is venting to atmosphere. If you seal the filter ports then it’ll operate just like the standard PCV system.

Just see the size filters needed above on another post you put on here ! Sorry missed that bit  19mm or 3/4 " :+1:
@Mblais you will be literally flying !! What with the petrol smell and fumes you have going on :weary::joy::joy:

Yeah… :disappointed: I really don’t want any fumes. I have been through enough older British cars with self-rustproofing (oil leaks) :smirk: that burn off the exhaust manifolds or cylinder heads… so for me to consider this whole PCV elimination, I would be pondering how to have exits way down low (like the 60’s again), so hoses again! Hmmmm…

Hoses are definitely doable, I was trying to avoid anything complicated to make it a super-easy installation. The irony is that I make a hose relocation kit to eliminate hoses on top of the valve cover. And now I might be adding a new one! I’ll take a look at all of that and probably offer it as an option.

On my 335is I have had multiple PCV solutions. I never did vent straight to atmosphere, but I have done catch cans for both “high” and “low” side and vented both the atmosphere and back through the intake/throttle body. When it was VTA I had a 1” dia. hose go straight out of the catch can to the bottom of the car. Rarely ever noticed a smell. I should mention that the internal design of the N54 PCV system had its flaws and there was much aftermarket research and design to fix it. Even though there was a single valve cover (because i6) we still had a dual PCV that handled conditions of boost (anywhere from 8 psi stock to 30+ off big single cars) and vacuum (idle, cruising). We should ask JHM if they’ve found wether the RS5 PCV can handle boost.

@Ape_Factory Your little filters to sit on the valve covers are so elegant, but if we are likely to get fumes, I’ll go back to a “hose” solution to take those fumes far away… :disappointed_relieved:

I don’t think @Ape_Factory is saying it smells that bad at all, its just a slight smell now and then at a stand still and most of the time you can’t smell it !

I think if the people who buy this product are not happy with the smell after testing it, they can simply fit some hoses themself’s as it not a difficult job.
That way you can play around with the hoses to get them in the best place that works for you, as what might be a good place for one might not be for another as it depends on what you are happy with and how much smell you are willing to tolerate.

Yeah I’ll definitely look into option “b” which would add hoses and reroute them someplace else but it’ll be really tough to do that on the RS5 as any easy access to the underside is blocked by other components. I’m keeping them on my car as is and I have two big driving events on back to back weekends. Might have a set of the adapters done by then too (hoping!).

@Ape_Factory How long before you have a kit ready for sale do you think ?

Not sure honestly, the manufacturing process is not something I can control. Was waiting for a customer who’s local to test fit a few versions first so there’s the human time element in all of this. Once we have the design nailed down, it won’t be long. As fast as the CNC can pump them out.

:+1: ok buddy thank you

Any news yet on this pcv kit Or how it’s all coming on ? Thanks @Ape_Factory

Hey @Ape_Factory I’ll be taking my RS5 on a ~1000 mile trip in a few weeks. If you need someone to do some long distance testing I’m happy to do it and report back.

A few new photos of the first prototypes. Not the final finish!

Looking good so far nice one :+1:
How long do you think it will be before you have the kits ready ?

Not sure yet…want to do a bit more testing. Should have the prototype set here this week.

Ok buddy well that’s good news about the prototype, keep us posted and as soon as your happy and have a kit ready let me know :+1:

Any news on this yet matey boy ??
Tell us more @Ape_Factory on what your doing and your findings on the prototype if any ?
Thanks buddy

All I can say is do not put it where i did (next to the cabin air intake) lol the smell is brutal sometimes when beating on it. I think I will be taking the filters off and closing them to a seal catch can
