Peak boost

What’s the difference / range you guys see in different conditions?

I. E. Same car, same setup… What’s the peal boost delta you see when comparing hot/humid logs to medium conditions to super cold / dry conditions?

typically this time of year I see about 17.0-17.3 psi in third gear depending on temps and atmospheric pressure and 18-18.2 psi in fourth.

just rechecked some old summer logs…

16.5-8 third gear
~17.6-17.8 in fourth.

Are you guys using the absolute, or non absolute manifold pressure value?

Intake manifold pressure; absolute in hPa

Tsivas, What DA for those #'s? Are you using actual ambient hPa minus absolute hPa or just assuming 1,000 ambient hPa? Maybe I’m measuring the wrong field?

Saki, Just went and did a 4th gear pull in negative 500 DA per my weather station(can’t believe the strip isn’t open :’( ) I showed 16.987psi 4th gear at 6932rpm, fractional bypass so basically none… In these conditions assuming traction 11.6x is a layup… When I went 11.69 my peak measured boost was 16.389 in a 350 DA, so plus .6 psi today… wonder what that would do? In August of 2012, in a DA of 3300+ I saw 14.503psi and went 12.10… Pretty big difference… From Jeff’s logs when he and I raced, his peak boost number was 16.25 psi that day… I went 11.72 for a best that day so it makes sense IMO…

Actual hPa from atm conditions i get from weather channel.

We are at 10ft above sea level when we log also. the winter log was a -2000 da night iirc.

Brb lowest DA I have seen all year!

1st Pass - No Meth Spraying

Starting Intake Temp - 39.75
Final Intake Temp at top of 4th -50.25

3rd Gear - Bypass opens @ 5914RPM

Peak Boost - 17.5 @ 5709 RPM
Peak Airflow - 1479 kg/h @ 7190 RPM
Peak Torque - 645Nm @ 5525 RPM

4th Gear - Bypass opens @ 6277RPM

Peak Boost - 17.6 @ 6221 RPM
Peak Airflow - 1390 @ 7175 RPM (bypass valve open 20%!!! only 13.7psi) Errr, need to get this bypass valve CLOSED. If I was rocking 17 pounds at 7200 rpms the airflow would be over 1500 EASILY.
Peak Torque - 634 @ 6221 RPM

2nd Pass(same strip of road) - Light Spray of Meth

Starting Intake Temp - 41
Final Intake Temp at top of 4th -48

3rd Gear - Bypass opens @ 6273RPM

Peak Boost - 17.5 @ 4322RPM, 5402RPM, 6141RPM, 6432RPM, then bypass opens.
Peak Airflow - 1562kg/h @ 7197RPM (bypass open 18%!!! only 14.9 Psi) man if the bypass was closed on this run, 1600 kg/h EASILY. Meth clearly increases the VE and boost/airflow.
Peak Torque - 649Nm @ 6432RPM, 648Nm @ 5402RPM, and 647Nm @ 6273RPM

4th Gear - Bypass opens @ 6399RPM

Peak Boost - 18.2Psi @ 6322RPM
Peak Airflow - 1476kg/h @ 7194RPM (bypass open 23%!!! only 13.5 Psi)
Peak Torque - 655Nm @ 6322RPM

METH is clearly increasing airflow, no doubt. Wow, didn’t realize how much.

Also, I sprayed meth on second pass which had higher initial intake temps

Dang quick conversion puts car at almost 485 ft/lb of torque at crank.

the Audi engine torque? Not sure if it’s crank or something less.

485 makes sense…you guys are trapping 118 or so, and only revving out to 7000. Must be making loads of torque because you’re making around 480-500 hp.

What is the Audi torque # at 5000, 6000 and 7000 RPMS?

Go do a 60-130 with your vbsport.

I made it into a little dyno chart for Mistro. I think he had a tune and stock exhaust with the first set of cats gutted but the main ones in place.

Will def be doing testing when I get the vbox.

At 3500 I am showing 435ft/lb, 4000 is showing 455ft/lb, 5000 is showing 470ft/lb, 6000 is showing 475ft/lb, 7000 is showing 426ft/lb.

As for the stock plot of the motor I have seen them before but can’t seem to locate one right now.

THAT would be interesting, to see related stock plot shape and turn it into a dyno as above.

According get to your numbers you’re making 567 hp at 7000. That’s probably not accurate as that would be about 480 who and that would see you trapping 122-123.

Realistically, probably what… 420-430 whp?

I am using the Nm reading from the engine torque calculation, then dividing it by 1.365 for the Nm to ft/lb torque conversion. How accurate it is, I do not know.

There are dyno plots out there for the 3.0 TFSI, I have seen them before. i am sure I could find one, doing schoolwork ATM.

^^^^1.3558

Whoops, I meant to type 1.356.

Thanks for clarifying T!

Stock peaks at around 12.7 on a P3 gauge using the OBDII reading, no boost tap.

I’ve seen an APRV2.2 93 peak as low as 13.1 in 95 degree sticky humid weather at just above sea level on a P3 gauge.

Same car peaks at 13.5 in ~70 degree significantly drier weather at the same elevation.

Always a little bleed on that car in the upper part of the RPM range. Boost falls back down into the 12s as it exceeds 5k and approaches redline.

Well fuck your couch east coaster!!!

Holy SHIT!

3000 feet underground. Incredible.

Best I’ve ever seen is -2200. I will have to PBOX my car if it gets good here soon. The exhaust definitely helps top end.

Yeah we’re still at 965ft in Florida today on a 75 degree day. Might not see anything negative for another month or so.
