Pikes Peak MKV Jetta Build

6th is still very respectable. How many were in the class? How far out of first were you guys?

Nice Job man.

Those guys at BW are good guys. They built my b7 a4 there.

Good job on the run man

6 out of 18 in the class and that was with only one run with the car giving out on the top third. Top of the class is Jeff Zwart who is running a factory backed Porsche so the gap between first and second has been pretty wide.

We can’t say enough good things about the guys at BW. They have been awesome and a huge help!

Looks like Romain Dumas is gunning hard for Loeb’s record!

Again a big thank you to them, they have gone above and beyond!

Wonderful team effort all around. That was a big pack sixth is very respectable. Care to share what happened to the car? What’s next for you guys?

We aren’t 100% certain what exactly happened as there were a few issues that may have caused the failure.

For us we have quite a few events on the calendar including our final goal of running the 25 hours of Thunderhill but that is only if the stars and moons align ;D

After two solid days of work at Bluewater Performance, Sead is back racing at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb! Sead and the guys at Bluewater worked right up to the last minute yesterday and Sead literally left Denver and headed straight to the start line for this mornings runs!! We can’t thank Bluewater enough for their help!

You can always count on the motorsport and volkswagen communities to be there to lend a helping hand and we are happy to be a part of both!

Thank you to all the sponsors and individuals who made this all happen!

Congrats!!!

What happened to that EVO next to you?

Haha congrats! Great effort and great build

More to come now that the car is back, lots of work to do!

There are a few other videos being edited!

Terrific job on the updates. I’ve really enjoyed watching this progression. Tough break on the blown motor. Did you ever get to advance past your last standings?

Ended up with an 11th place result in the TA1 class which was over a minute improvement over the prior years result in the FR-S. Considering only getting to do 2 practice runs before the race and all the problems leading up to it we couldn’t be happier with the result! We are looking forward to next year and having a year to get the car really dialled in with a good number of events still to come.

Now that the guys have had a few days to rest, back to work on a few things on the car as we gear up for a few small events!

First things first is to get the 80mm throttle body working on the car and we think we may have figured it out! More on that soon! Also we are working on the DSG flash to get the shift patterns down as it wasn’t where we wanted it to be for Pikes Peak.

All in all it was a great first outing for the car for the short amount of time we had and we are already working towards next year to climb up the standings!

Here is a video from Engineers corner. The jetta appears around the 6:40 mark and then Ken Gushi pops around the corner at around the 7:00 mark!

Thanks again for all the support and there is a lot more to come!

Really awesome stuff theKB. Great work in getting your team together and riding the ups and downs. Everything you’ve learnt this time will get you up the leaderboard next time. Any other races planned?

Plus you were the best VW!

I’m just curious to know if you considered a bog standard 6mt manual and if there was a reason for going DSG?

Am I correct that this car wasn’t running a bit turbo set up at the time of the race? I think I asked before. How many more events this year are you looking to complete?

It’s definitely a big learning process with a brand new car.

We are interested in testing the limits of the DSG and to see what we can do with it. We do have 600hp clutches, a cooling upgrade and diff that will be put on our AWD setup. The FWD setup currently has a diff in it as well. Also we are interested to see how it works in race applications which we are finding out needs some more tweaking from a tune perspective.

We do have a lot of Time Attack events in the near future and a few other hill climbs towards the end of the season. Ultimate goal is to enter in the 25 hours of thunder hill in december but that is if the moon/stars/planets align.

All we can say is we are happy with the result all things considered! ;D

Car was running a Borg Warner SX200 turbo which is quite a large turbo. I think there was a picture of it compared to the car’s old 3071R.

I would say we have at least 6-12 events we are hoping to get under our belts this season so lots of time to tweak and improve before we make some bigger changes.

We will also be hitting the strip a number of times as soon as it opens. Our local drag strip has had to delay opening due to track issues. ::slight_smile:

A flyby I found on youtube this morning!

Off to a great start. Just finishing Pikes Peak is a feat in itself.

Cool video. And well done making a 4 pot turbo engine sound decent :stuck_out_tongue:

No kidding, the team faced a lot of adversity and in the end we are happy with the result in the rookie year for the car.

haha we were all pretty surprised by the sound! Just happy that it is actually quieter than we thought it would be!
