Pikes Peak MKV Jetta Build

Cool, thanks for the reply. Did not know BW owned Haldex. OEM ++++!

News to me as well.

600whp is a big ask from a 2.0 no? Are you sticking with the 2.0?

Haldex was aquired by BW in 2011! I only found out after we started the project!

It’s definitely a tall task but achievable! For this year we will stick to the 2.0T but will eventually start a build up of a non-fsi 2.5 motor as well.

A little work over the weekend done on getting the balance shaft out of there!

Wavetrac has gotten us the new LSD for the front of our DSG Haldex Swap!

We will taking pictures of the install along with other details as we start tearing about the DSG!

How long till the event? Also at the expense of sounding uneducated. What is the balance shaft. What is the benefit of removing it?

Balance shafts are put in as a sort of damper in motors that aren’t naturally balanced especially with inline 4 cylinder motors. This is removed to free up a small amount of power and to make the engine more reliable. Oil system is converted to one out of a 1.8T.

Since it’s thursday… a little turbo action for your viewing pleasure!

The left is the new Borg Warner S200 turbo which will be used for Pikes Peak. For comparison the cars old Garret GT3071R is on the right.

The S200 is ideal for use at altitude and was specifically chosen for this application by Shift Autosport and the engineers at Borg Warner.

And the obligatory test fit shot on the motor!

Nick, AFI makes a tubular manifold, it’s the one from BSH old kit, although I believe it’s a Vbanded setup.

Incredible those pictures really put the size difference into perspective. With a turbo that big and the hp goals so high what RPM range do you anticipate you’ll need to run?

For the other turbo (which will be bigger) we need a vbanded manifold. I have a feeling AFI is also no longer around considering their website is no longer. FFE makes a tubular vbanded manifold so we will probably talk to them after we get done with Pikes Peak.

Should be good for 600whp with stock head with the fuelling solution we are working on (it isn’t the typical 8 injector setup)… more on that later ;D

Since time is short head work will have to wait as far as I know. We did just get a fat box of parts from IE and are waiting on a few other boxes from a few new partners as well!

Who’s gonna be the lucky driver of this beast? Should be fun, that is a big turbo.

He definitely wasn’t asking about peak WHP.

He was asking you what RPM range do you need to be above.

Put simply, “That massive turbo on this tiny motor will take a fucking month to spool…and your powerband will be for shit…so what RPM range will you need to be in for it to be effective?”

Point taken (also didn’t know the answer when i responded)… 3500-7500RPM for now is what is being gauged. Obviously we will build the head down the road.

These are the two drivers for various events. Sead Causevic will be the hill climb driver and will be tackling Pikes Peak. Richard Basford will be driving and various Time Attack events amongst other things. Both are very experienced and skilled drivers.

I will be taking her down the strip (for my own kicks and giggles 8))

you think you’ll be in boost at 3500 RPM?

Can we bet on that?

That dragstrip will nearly kill you. Be very careful. Not a lot of people realise how crazy a big turbo/small motor boost hit is until they have hit the wall.

With the GT3071R boost came on around 28-3000 (it’s been so long since i drove that car I can’t remember specifically) but it wasn’t that bad. This turbo was actually chosen by Borg Warner for this application so we will see where power comes on once we get it tuned and fuelled.

It will be interesting with the car, I will naturally get a feel for it before going full out at the strip ;D also the awd setup will change the characteristics a bit from the wheel spin bonanza that happened with the FWD setup. The weight reduction will also have some effect as well so learning the dynamics will definitely be a part of my education of this car!

A nice box of parts arrived from Integrated Engineering yesterday.

Pieces required to have an upgraded intake manifold and 80mm throttle body as well as an 06A oil system conversion.

And for good measure another shot of the turbo with waste gate bolted up as well!
