Place your bets...

The interesting thing is the 1740, unless pushed to 2.3-2.4 PR, will probably run cooler than the 1320 and may not need the CPS as badly.

This definitely opens the door for a milder tune/big pulley and a wilder tune/small pulley. I think if they push 2.3-2.4 PR or say 20 psig, it will definitely be running the bypass on pump gas and wouldn’t be as efficient a setup for everyday driving.

Then they could make the people wanting the big balls option pony up for the fuel pump or injectors (injection time is pretty high already), CPS, and whatever. I’d say 10K/15K depending on the power level requested.

If Magnusson releases the blower to others, the price will drop…I mean the RS4 1740 price is pretty stupid.

I voted $15k. Also predict summer 2014 release date, perhaps during APR’s annual event in July.

Saki, I know you hate to admit the fact that this kit could possibly cost us nearly half that of the RS4 Stg3+++++ kit… Well, when the kit is finally released (im with prime on this one, spring or closer to SöWö 2014) and it costs only around $9k, will you finally sell the RS4, jump the wagon and buy a used B8 S4?

Just sayin…

;D ;D ;D :o

Have to factor in the limitations of the S4 engine and DSG transmission. RS4 engine can take a lot of power in stock form.

please dont open this can of worms lol

Before I reply, was this really you, or did your friends hack your account again?

If you guys pay $10,000 or 15,000 for that matter how would it affect me? I thought this poll would be a good discussion point with varying opinions, and the results of the poll show I was right. Lots of opinions and good discussions.

I don’t think any informed enthusiast RS4 owner is seriously considering the APR kit anyway at $20,000. We are spoiled with kits of similar or better performance and the other three are far more realistically priced. Two of them also have far more testing under their belts. I also think the idea of selling an iconic halo car like the RS4 to buy a b8 s4 just because you (el romano) dream the APR kit will only be $9,000 is a comical concept. Do you hear yourself?

There’s a few great options for the RS4. Notably the JHM options, from the only company on earth to fully develop parts for the RS4. Their kit is $12,000, has gone faster than APR like for like, and comes with a supercharger that can be pushed for another 150 WHP over the 525-550 WHP it comes with, vs the 1740 being pushed to its max from Apr…and is sold at only 8 PSI with an intercooler the size of a small swimming pool. Want a motor build and 700 whp? JHM is the only company on earth with a motor build program for the RS4. When you factor in the tuner at JHM is the guy APR has called in to rescue their struggling kits in the past, JHM Is an easy choice for any RS4 owner.

Thanks PT. I didn’t actually know the differences in DSG by model year.

Is the gearing taller or shorter for the 13+? I’m thinking taller.

Maybe after Elramano gets his 1740 he will break the records he has been talking about for the last year. Where has Stig (Auditude) been?

[quote=“boosteasy,post:28,topic:5100”]

Taller…can’t seem to find the ratios right now tho

Not a problem… It’s taller like J said… Here are the 10-12 ratios… I have the 13+ somewhere but can’t seem to find them… lol I think one gear had a 3% delta and one maybe like 9% but I’m going by memory… I’ll see if I can find the 13+ #'s tonight at hom…

S-Tronic:
1st: 3.69
2nd: 2.24
3rd: 1.56
4th: 1.18
5th: 0.92
6th: 0.75
7th: 0.62
Final: 3.88

2013+

1st: 3.69
2nd: 2.15
3rd: 1.41
4th: 1.03
5th: 0.79
6th: 0.63
7th: 0.52 (!) WTF 280 mph or something like that.

final is still 2.88.

lol if you think that’s crazy the C7 corvette is geared for 350 mph.

so should all of our cars be geared that way. I don’t know why the manual transmission Audis are geared to have your top gear at 3200 RPM at the global highway speedlimit of 130 KMH. If I want to accelerate, I will downshit. Now give me a taller 6th.

JHM made a diesel gear swap setup for the B67 S4 but unfortunately the gear and synchro are like $600 for parts alone and labour would run you a small fortune. Only made sense if you were doing 30,000 kms/year, were going to keep the car for a few years, and were already doing a transmission rebuild. It had the 4.2 S4 sitting at around 2200 for 70 mph instead of 3000 RPM.

Thanks PT and nice work!

I put it all into a table showing max mph at shift RPM of each (7000 and 6400) FWIW:
[tr][td] 2010-2012 2013+
Shift RPM 7000 Shift RPM 6400 Ratio
Gear Ratio Max MPH Ratio Max MPH Difference
1st 3.69 38 3.69 35 1.00
2nd 2.24 62 2.15 59 1.04
3rd 1.56 89 1.41 90 1.11
4th 1.18 118 1.03 124 1.15
5th 0.92 152 0.79 162 1.16
6th 0.75 186 0.63 203 1.19
7th 0.62 225 0.52 245 1.19
Final 3.88 3.88

You bet… Keep in mind the impact of different size wheels and tires…

I voted $12K. Part of me recalls Arin? stating something along the lines of it will be the least expensive option out of all the current available options…I’m not positive if that is exactly the way it was stated or if it was a play on words because there are no other viable Stage 3 options currently available? - not sure. Maybe I’m drunk but I do remember reading this somewhere.

The other part of me wanted to vote a higher amount for the reasons stated by others in previous posts. I can’t get the price point to come down that far from there the RS kit is sitting right now. Where would the massive savings come from?

Interesting topic.

We have fluid / filter kits at checkout:

Motul Specific Oil / Motul Coolant / Filter = $95
Motul 300v Oil / Motul Coolant / Filter = $130

He said it would be cheaper than all of the 4.2 options.

If he is referring not the rs4, rs5, r8 APR 1740 kits that’s not saying much. The moon is cheaper.

If he was saying cheaper than any 4.2 kit (non-apr) out there, that’s pretty interesting. The JHM B7 RS4 kit $7995. That’s their 6 psi setup good for around 450 who (guess on the power…they trap around 117-120 on pump ) .

I still think it’s going to be around $8k-$10k (without CPS). Arin himself said the whole swap will take under 1 hour, so all we’re paying for is a new blower, tune, and R&D (maybe new fuel pump??). If they cannot show us a gain of like 80+whp, then it’s just not worth it IMO. Unless they can prove power that can break us into the 10s on the 1/4, there is no way they’ll find many customers jumping on this kit, how else can they justify a pricetag north of $10k??? ???

So you think 10-12k?

Make sure you count CPS. It’s not optional.

Just as upgraded fuel pumps are not optional on the RS4 kit. Theyre just billed separately.

Cooling and fuelling are important. Otherwise you’re not stage 3, you’re 3- like a b5 kid who blew his k03s and can only afford replacement k04s but none of the necessary supporting modifications that make up the stage 3 kit
