Saki, Mines really not bad… it only hangs on the 1-2 occasionaly while racing… I know others cars like Fonzie’s are much worse who knows why… Also, I know you and others have said it seems like a delay in the 2-3 but I don’t feel it… the 1-2 is very noticeable when it happens… At the end of the day it’s the tranny I choose right or wrong and until someone tunes it I have to deal with it’s shortcomings… Such is life! LOL
^^^it’s working really well for you to be honest. You haven’t really had anything like these other guys. 81bear, when he ran for the first time ever with me filming, had a huge hangup on the 1-2. It was weird. I almost put the camera down to say WTF is he doing?
I guess the other thing to think about is that you guys are making way more power than stock cars, running a full boost tune/pulley, race gas, and allowing the exhaust to work better…inevitably the cars will freak out a bit. However Audi and the germans in general tend to over engineer this stuff for 150% of stock power.
Not sure if you guys saw, but justincredible for example is running stock tiptronic transmission on his B6 S4 and his car just ran 12.2-12.3 @ 113-116 . He probably makes around 380-400 whp and a bit less torque and ran without a hitch.
ill be roasting them regardless lol

i got a call the other day that the clutchmasters kit was good to go so the order went in yesterday
Thanks! Good luck.
Yeah, I bet Richie’s car runs strong.
nice…wear bars are going to be taking a beatdown on saturday
I have to say one of the funnest things about the RS4 is its ability to lay down a 20 foot black strip on command. It’s weird because you’d think my S4 would be better at that, having more torque at its disposal (with full 2.5" catless+JHM tune) but the stock RS4 is hilarious. I did a couple of quick burnouts before runs Saturday because the gunky track prep is like glue for little stones and gravel when you are driving around between runs. Worked really well to blast them off.
Richi, got anyone to film? Also, you should contact D to go with you. He’s never scared to go to the strip, and I think it would be cool to watch your two cars battle it out. Get his friend Scott to bring his very badass Nogaro Blue GT B5 S4, and it’ll be a real party.
you don’t gotta tell me twice… fast forward to 5:30 lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=PreC_9wt-t4 this new s4 does em pretty well too. naa i don’t have anyone to film tho, i got my go pro… will that qualify me for the database or do witness’s count haha? i sent D a text, ill probably hear back tomorrow and ask him, scotts a good guy, he used to have the silver bullet
I’ll be sure to bring my camera.
correction. matt will b filming lol
Dang, that’s the opposite of what you would think. The more aggressive gearing helps for sure, but I would think that those fatter tires and weaker torque curve would be more then enough to limit any mean burnouts like that. Any reasoning for why the RS4 manages to pull that off so well? (is the gearing in 1st really that much stronger where if you break them loose it’s easy to just keep ripping through the gear?)
Also, just curious since we’re always talking about launching etc. What RPM are you launching at when you’re cleaning the tires off at the track? I’ve done it a couple of times b/c of the same scenario with shit pavement, but never sure what RPM is enough to insure lighting up all the tires, but not so high that I’m roasting the clutch. Not wanting to pull a ngng here!
look at the youtube vid i posted, my rs4 laid down rubber like it was a joke
Oh I did, and I’ve seen it in a lot of other vids too. I’m just saying, on paper, it seems like an anomaly. I’m asking is it really just the gearing and high redline that lets ya go nuts?
yea im going to go with gearing and the rear bias
x2, my car is set up similarly as far as gears and torque bias and typically leaves pretty good rubber
mad, for whatever reason it’s really easy to light them up. As I said, my S4 had the same differential, and made more torque than my RS4 does. It was WAY harder to lay a patch in it than it is in the RS4.
As I said in the quarter mile thread, I was doing little burnouts before the last couple of runs, because my tires looked like pin cushions with the track prep acting as glue for thousands of little gravel stones. It was pretty easy. I’ll make a video like Richi did. I wish I had a picture of the patch I laid on the little return road at the strip last week. It was nuts. Car just ripped them loose and then the tach hit the rev limiter. I let off and looked in my mirror…it was pretty awesome. Actually a friend is going to the same strip this weekend so I’ll get him to snap a pic.
madison’s jealous lol
^ you might be surprised what a S4 with blower and headers can do when it comes to lighting tires up. My track tires are only 225, and my biggest problem was keeping any form of traction. Wasn’t a problem pre-headers, but it’s become very very noticeable after headers. I am jealous to an extent though, I’m ready to get out there and do some serious driving.
But I’m always down for some enjoying some good burnout footage. So back to my question, what RPM are you dropping at to smoke em up like that, or what did you do in the S4 to do the same (if you ever did)?
at the strip, anything over 3100 was spun tires/shit launch.
the time I tried to rip them loose to clean them on that little road was from around 3700 rpm.
The difference between the 3.81 gear raito of the S4 and the 4.10 gear of the RS4 will tell the story behind the easy burn outs. you can put a 4.10 on a festva and spin the tires. Not to say the RS4 is down on power. I also think the continous Tq curve of the RS4 helps the burn out. The gear really does more then anythying
Its great to see the B8 S4 doing so well. Great job primetime
Has there been a consensus as to what the 1-2 hang up is? it has to be some sort of temp limp mode! I was doing some logging tonight and it was terrible… on WOT the delay cut the forward momentum so much that it opened my sunroof shade 3-4"! WTF!
dunno but let’s get back to talking burnouts
lol
the DSG idiosyncracies are neat. Definitely safety stuff put in place by Audi.

Thanks man, I appreciate that!
