Me too. Part of me likes the idea of going down as a group a few weeks after the event when the cops won’t be on such high alert. Not that I really plan to do anything law enforcement would pull email over for but I have a vision of what and how I would like to experience these great roads. Not too sure experiencing them stuck behind a line of traffic going at a snails pace due to congestion is my idea of worth it.
Yeah, 318 curves behind someone on TOD would be thrilling lol.
Last year heading to SOWO we hit some curvy roads but I couldn’t enjoy it with 4 people in the car and 2 of which were well over 200 lbs in the back. If I make it out this year, itll be just me and the girlfriend
There isnt a good time to go regarding cops. Here is why, its open all year long. There is some kind of event or something every weekend. I will say that we carry Walkies, and between the walkies, waze app, radar detectors its usually a non issue. Plus others flash high beams if cops are coming up. (i know Wookies in the woods is the week before, the hyundai genesis meet is 2 weeks before, mini cooper event i believe is the week after etc.)
As far as traffic, there will be some. Only on TOD really. However, the other roads we drive on Silver springs, devils triangle, cherohala skyway. those are MUCH less congested. I actually thought the silver springs run we went on was better than the dragon. Very similar but the curves were better, scenery was better and there was almost NO traffic (and what traffic there was would actually pull over for us when they could).
Beem, feel free to bring the VW. I know there was at least one R last year. As we get a little closer ill make a list of who is going and make a list of a group and so forth.
There are tons of routes to drive out there that are pretty amazing. Like Eddie said, if your actually on TOD it may be congested in some areas, but there are plenty of alternatives. I’ve been out there on a bike…didn’t die or get arrested.
Exactly. TOD is worth it for nostalgia and its a great drive. But what makes the weekend is the lesser known roads with no traffic and just great driving.
Ok, so ive got an awesome website that i will be using to plan out drives. Also, i want to let everyone know Registration has opened. I would highly recommend getting a hotel and signing up as early as possible because last year both filled up.
i just registered and booked hotel. Im going to edit the first post with people who are coming and may come.
I dont think its that big of a commitment. Im also just updating the thread. I always plan my trips well in advance. I plan h2o and have everything ready by July.
Im only updating this because last year the hotel sold out and the registration for the event filled up by the end of march if i remember correctly. Also just bumping this to remind everyone.
Yeah I’m still planning on attending this year. However, I’ll be registering and all that stuff closer to the date of an event. I’m not sure yet if I’ll be staying overnight for two days or just attending for one day… Too early to tell, I’d have to rely on my schedule when it’s closer to it.
If you can try for 2 days. There so much driving to be done. The first day (thursday) there is an evening cruise to a restaurant. Most likely since im arriving Wednesday ill use thursday as a day to go driving on my own (or with whoever wants) so i can maximize my driving time and be back for that cruise. Friday and Saturday ill have routes planned as well. Sunday morning ill wake up eat and drive back to NYC.
Just an update. The Main hotel is now sold out. There is a holiday inn 5 miles away that the QDM reps have reserved a block of rooms for. I dont believe its up on the site yet, but if you need a room there you can let me know and ill get the info for you.
Also, if your status has changed let me know so i can update the thread. Thanks and hope to meet a few of you there.
I’m out, should be closing on our house around that time and my money will be better spent elsewhere. Plus I need to time off in Aug to go to Cali for a vacation/my brother’s white coat ceremony.
