Quattro de Mayo

I have missed this or decided against it the last few years. I was thinking about going this year, but kinda doubt I will.

Reasons:

  1. I drive these kinds of roads everyday. I live in this area, and curvy hilly roads are nothing new to me. I am very surprised many of you drive so far just to make some turns.

  2. My gf like many others hate the winding roads and will get car sick quick. The faster I drive the worse it gets, so it becomes no fun for everyone.

  3. This one might get some grief, but it’s true (at least for me). I really have no interest in doing events with the GA Audi Club anymore…sorry but it’s just a bunch of old dudes that I have nothing in common with besides the fact we drive an Audi. I guess I am just more of a young punk compared to the middle aged (cough close-minded cough) folks that make up the Audi scene around here. Sorry but I have nothing friendly to discuss with all of these DoD and former military folks. They come off to me like the exact type to eat up the APR and dyno marketing bullshit. I went down to ATL a handful of times many years ago and the more I went the more I decided that it’s just not my crowd…to each their own though.

case in point: badbluers4 - that guy makes me never want to attend a GA audi event ever again…what a douche

That is pretty closed minded, because someone like me could easily be lumped into that description you provided. I’m not much of a club guy myself so I feel very similar…I personally would be interested in only meeting a few of these guys from AR.

Well BC sniper thanks for the reply but i think your being a little stereotypical. I happen to be former military like a few of those guys but im not for APR at all and while some of them may be i go for the driving. Ive met a few of the guys there and they all seem like decent people who would go out of thier way to help you if needed.

I do agree that some might eat into the APR BS i just choose to ignore that and while i have my own opinion and they do as well. I will agree that most of the members in the GA club are old, but last year there was a growing group of us younger people who attended and i do believe that more will continue to grow. Hence the reason i make my own small group of people and go off and do out own thing.

You wont catch any flak from me. If thats you feel that so be it. But i will say that most of the military talk when im around isnt really brought up. i tend to not talk about my time very much unless someone specifically asks.

Oh and about your G/F not liking the driving, thats exactly why my wife doesnt come. LOL so leave her home.

You guys are reading a lot more into my post than I really meant.

The fact that people are/were in the military or involved with it has nothing to do with it really. I know plenty of people who were and have had members of my family serving back several generations. And this has nothing to do with discussing things directly military related. Many of those guys are of a certain mindset that we may not see eye-to-eye on…that and Georgia seems to have a certain fondness for close-minded ignorance so I’ve found it’s often just best to keep some opinions to myself.

There may be some of the “younger” crowd involved now, but I’d say most are coming from outside of this region. The club is much more populated by the 45-55 generation than the 20-30’s. Nothing wrong with that, but just less appealing to some. And I know about going out of the way to help Audi folks around here…I have been involved with that a decent bit…and funny enough it was always for other guys around my age.

You have a chance of meeting 3 types of people from my experience.

  1. Guys from the same area as you with the same interest that you become friends with
  2. Gooofy weird kids
  3. Gooofy weird old dudes, that are worse than the younger weirdos…but they think they know everything and demand some weird type of seniority over the group.

BCsniper i see where your coming from. Yea that group is mostly older people. I live in NYC currently and i will be making the drive as well as a few guys from jersey. Would love for you to come out and hang out. I dont go to any other of their events.

And yeah i may not agree with what some of them have to say or what they are into but i usually just ignore it or move on to something else in conversation.

Hey guys, bumping this to let everyone know April is fast approaching and March 30th is the deadline for QDM holding the hotels. There are still a few rooms left at the holiday inn (there might be some available at the resort) but the hold on the block of rooms for both places is lifted on the 30th of this month.

Anyone else deciding to come out?

Registration for this even ENDS THE WEEK. if you plan on attending this event then you MUST REGISTER BY END OF WEEK.

I know a few of you were waiting until it got closer. We are only 3 weeks away. There are currently about 80 cars coming. I hope one or two of you make it out (as to whats already on the list). If so let me know so i can update it.

Saw one the other day. Hideous.

If you want an event for young people go to SOWO. Most “young” people don’t drive Audi’s. As far as meeting people. The Georgia Audi Club has the largest diversity of owner types I have seen yet. One guy who is 38 gasp “ancient” I met and became 500 mile distance friends drove all the way to mid Florida to help me change a rear main seal in a 2.0T A5 of my wife’s. Another so called Old Military guy took his Valentines weekend and sponsored us at his race track so we could road course our cars for another guys Birthday.

I have met all kinds of people some great some assholes.

BCSNIPER just head to SOWO plenty of young assholes for you. I have a feeling you won’t be missed at QDM.

PS My wife loves to go fast on those curvy roads. She got out of an R8 after a professional race car driver took her around the Road Course at Daytona at over 160 mph 4 feet from the wall.
Oh yea that was at an ACNA event. That was mostly old people, you know the ones that have lived life, experienced life and usually have interesting stories.

From another old guy, that currently has an APR stage 2+ that has 81000 miles on it and runs great. I won’t being using their stage 3 as I think IE has a better setup.
My also old wife’s S5 will be at QDM also so my young 25yo can’t afford an Audi can participate with his Dad and Brother 29yo.

what is this close mindedness that BC Sniper speaks of?

They don’t like modified cars?

They don’t like non-whites?

They don’t like people with low pants?

They don’t like people with non-silver cars?

Just trying to understand.

Personally I don’t care much for wide group car meets. i.e. over 10. I can’t be bothered lol. I will get together with someone I know or hit the strip, or go to a meet to let someone hear my exhaust, but I don’t want to go to a meet for 2 hrs to make friends.

I wanted to make it to Quattro de Mayo since I’ve never been, but I’ll throw in my two cents.

I went to one Georgia Audi event. I love how active their chapter is and the level of involvement. The TN chapter shut down 5-10yrs ago, and they’re just now trying to start one back up but it’s not going well. Audi ownership, or moreso enthusiasm, in the southeast is very minimal. Owners that want performance and European cars mostly buy BMW’s or if they can’t afford that, the buy VW’s. I RARELY met a Audi performance owner/enthusiast in my 5+yrs of ownership. Not my reason for owning a car, but it’s still a fun aspect of it.

However, getting back to the one event I went to, I would agree it was an interesting mix of people. What I took away, was just not appreciation for true proper cars. The two cars that I really enjoyed was a very clean 80’s M6 that most the Audi guys scoffed at for coming to an Audi driving event (someone’s friend), and a 2002 RS6 who was an older guy that knew very little about the car even after years of ownership (sounded more like he thought he bought an A6 off a lot but liked the color combo and it turned out to be a RS6).
Most the rest of cars were poorly modded VW guys talking about their soon to be Audi or Audi guys who were sucking APR’s dick. The amount of people that thought APR was God was just repulsive. And this was right when the whole CountVaughn denial scandal had gone public. They were talking about it (I wasn’t involved) and adamant about how APR didn’t need outside help and how great APR was.

All that said, it wasn’t everyone and in speaking from a singular event. I’d still like to meet up at one of their events again, and there are some great roads to drive in north GA. So I do understand what BC was saying, but I don’t think it was interpreted as he meant it.

While many of them do seem to swing from APR’s nuts, having a difference in opinion is just that. A lot of the people I met there are nice. Maddog you should come out.

Disclaimer: I’m former Military and 38 so i guess I’m officially old now. However, I go to QDM to enjoy the cool spring sunshine (while it lasts before it is friggin hot GA) on some awesome roads, and share the experience with a group people. I believe the environment is conducive to make it what you will. I also can attest that if you hook up with the right drives you will find contributing to global warming for no good reason a rewarding experience ;D. See ya’ll soon.

PS. Some of the old dudes can drive (four) rings around most on a race track, but have nothing to prove on the open road.

Had a blast and met some great new people. I would say 25% of the group was under 40. With that said i created my own driving group (all younger people) and we had a fantastic drive. For anyone thinking of coming out i highly suggest doing so next year. Us younger crowd hung out together the entire time (even after the drives) and i cant wait again until next year.

Also BadblueRS4 did not show whoever was complaining about him.

Glad to hear you had a good time. Any pics from the event? Beautiful part of the country and some great driving roads I know. I ended up having other plans so was unable to make it.

I dont have many pics but ill definitely post some up in the next week or so. Shonseb has some but he is still away and wont be back till after sowo i believe.

I have some vids im going to upload as well.

sorry…75% of the people at quattro demayo were over 40? Did I read that right?

Doesn’t surprise me. Kinda goes back to my previous post.

Yes you did. And again the 10 or so people i hung out with were around the ages of 25 to 35 and we had a great time. there were 138 people there i believe. And again, The younger crowd pretty much did our own thing. I created my own run that lasted 6 hours of driving through NC and GA and we had a blast! Then we went back to my villa and drank beer and hung out. Im looking forward to it again next year. I hope a few of you guys come out. Again, ill try and post pics and vids this weekend.
