Ran a Stage III B5 s4 today

Did some “accelerations” with a friend who has a stage 3 b5 s4 on frankenturbos. He said the car is on a rich tune until he can have a friend tune it. I have, Miltek DP, FI exhaust, IM spacers, JHM tune, and various lightweight parts. I also had a passenger (~180lbs) but damn did he car pull me once I got up into 4th. He gave me the jump both times.

Yeah lol. Stage 3 b5 s4 are insanely quick. I ran one after I installed the headers, I wasn’t tuned or had the JHM intake mani or stage 4 clutch and LWFW yet. That thing smoked me bad on the freeway. He loved the way my car sounded. Lol

I have some videos like that vs a friend with a frankenturbo b5. I would put a quick two cars on him, then he’d catch me at the top of 3rd, then he’d rape me once he got through fourth.

Of course I eventually sicked a friend in an Apr supercharged rs4 on him and he got raped right back.

On pump gas (I. E. On the road) the grand majority of stage three b5 guys won’t touch an 11 second @ 117-119 car like that rs4.

Yea I actually have seen your video, I guess I faired pretty well but they are fast. Makes me want to get an RS4 lol. How do you think a JHM tuned RS4 would handle one.

Stage 3 b5 s4 is amazing at higher speeds. When I race on the freeway with other cars I tend to pull hard when I hit 4th.
Like a stage 2 gti or stage 2 golf r will get me when doing 2nd pulls but as soon as I hit 4th I will pass and keep pulling.
Also no one ever wants to race me from a dig.

I think most k04 b5 guys on pump gas would have trouble. It would be pretty close up top in most cases although the b5 should have the edge but the rs4 would put up a good lead early.

Give the b5 a great tune, great mod list and race gas and the rs4 with bolt ons should get rocked.

That’s an interesting race, I would have thought you would do better against a stage 3 B5 on pump gas, I’ve raced a few and those things don’t usually stand a chance. One time we were slightly even in the beginning but my car would eventually pull away.

Looks like a good job your car looks like it really jumps when you get on it. If you want for fun try this. Race him again, start in 1st gear at 5mph give him the passenger or loose the passenger all together. It will be a different race. Racing a B5 after 50mph or so puts you at a large disadvantage.

That’s my B5. Stage 3 minus. Stock everything but the frankens, fx400, and 5 bar fpr. Basic stage 3- tune tweaked for safety, 16 psi. Have the rest of my stage 3 parts sitting at home, just haven’t found time to install them.

No sorry forgot to mention the cheapo 3" > 2.5" dp’s (which actually fit perfectly) into 3" Milltek resonated exhaust. No cats.

I have an awe maf and id725’s waiting to go in. SRM SMIC’s will be on the way soon. BritishTurbo will be handling the tuning.

Yeah the stages get a little out of hand sometimes, I don’t entirely get it. Easier to just post mod lists since guys might be on stock turbos, but upgraded IC’s or vice versa. But stage 3- typically refers to upgraded turbos with stock fueling. It goes something like this I guess:

stg 1 = tune + maybe catback
stg 2 = tune + dp’s back
stg 3- = upgraded turbos + stock fueling + dp back exhaust
stg 3 = add in fueling and IC’s
stg 3+ = typically what people say when they have bigger than k04 turbos or meth/nitrous/etc.

Wow, you held up pretty well; props. I would’ve figured a STG3 on Frankens would’ve gotten the jump on you and maintained at least a half-car length before pulling away in 5th and 6th but then again, you said he had fuel/tune issues to work out.

I would like to be entertained by this thought process; a stage 3 wouldn’t hold up against a mildly modded V8 S4?

How are you liking the FrankenTurbos? Is it THAT much better than RS6-K04s or hybrid K04s?

Prior to me throwing in the towel for the B5 and jumping on the B6 S-Avant, I played with the idea of taking out $10K and going full stage 3 with the FrankenTurbos.

It’s not a thought process I’m speaking from experience, maybe they weren’t running well as a lost of B5 S4’s are not. But the results are very similar every time with different cars.

^^^He has a B8 S4 and claims he makes 492 WHP, so go figure.

With respect to the stages, I started a thread on audizine about this once. Here’s what I proposed for the modified stages, and people for the most part agreed:

Stage 1 = chip

Stage 2 = chip, exhaust, cooling etc. No stage 2+ as that’s kinda subjective…basically modded K03 cars will be stage 2 in this poll

Stage 3 = bigger turbos (i.e. K04), but not built and GT or RS6’d

BUILT = BIG turbos…built engine etc.

With stock fueling they aren’t much faster than stage 2+. I haven’t gotten to fully enjoy them yet. Still being in school (only three more weeks till graduation ;D ) I decided to take the budget route, which still ended up being 4k in parts due to all the little things.

I kind of regret not getting rs6’s but the low end power of k04’s is fun too. Two of my friends have the FT’s and convinced me to get them. Their cars walk mine like I’m not moving. I can’t wait to get home and get the rest of my parts on.
