Retrofitting rear heated seats

Ok so long story short, my seats were ruined after leaving windows and sunroof cracked and a ridiculous storm came in from no where and within 20 mins had 4 inches of standing water (not in the car but outside). Never seen anything like that and i lived in Florida for 10 years. I thought i aired the car out but i guess i didnt because the next week after being in a heat wave, my seats became hard where they were wet.

I bought some new seats. The new rears are heated and my originals are not. The guy im buying the rears off of is giving me wire and the switch for it. Has anyone done this before or would have any idea on doing this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Poke around the B6 A4 section on AZ. I know a bunch of those guys have done the retro-fit over the years.

first off that sucks about the water.

I would love to see more on this. I would have to think that you can just do an adjustment in the body control module. Let us know what you find.

Thanks Koolade for the help on the harness.

Ill speak to the guy selling them as we he more inclined to know as well. I was pretty upset when it happened. The seats were in very good shape. But i may have already found a buyer for the seats at $400 bucks and the seats im picking up tonight look almost brand new and they are black leather with black alcantara.

ugh, if for whatever reason you feel compelled to sell that rear seat…please please let me know.

LOl will do but i dont see any reason for me selling. I picked them up last night and man they are really in amazing shape overall. Ill update this thread when i install and figure out the wiring

Ok so just a quick reply. I found a post on AZ. Koolade was right. B6 A4 section was money for the info needed. I need the seats, control module and the harness Koolade provided a link for. I have everything but the harness. Ill be ordering that later today.

The biggest thing ill run into is the wiring. I’m not good with wires and i dont have a diagram. I had read that the instructions are shit as well so i need to possibly look for a bentley manual or something. Ill need to find someone close by who could help me wire the thing. Ill update again when i have something.

WOW lots of great stuff. Im interested in this as a possible mod. Its great that there is actually a harness for this. Thanks for keeping us up to speed on this.

Sorry to hear about that incident Eddie. Looking on a bright side, now you’ve got rare and awesome black alcantara and leather combo! I’m in the same boat with you on retrofitting rear heated seats. I’m not going to use that feature, but I just want to have it. Don’t ask me why, I’m weird like that ;D

Could you provide link to the thread with info you’ve found?
Do you have that control module part number?

Question: Did B6 S4s and for that matter B7 S4s come prewired for rear heated seats(like some bimmers)?

Here is what i found so far.

http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/509801-Do-all-B7-s-come-quot-pre-setup-quot-for-heated-seats

The first link is a diagram of some sort. Wiring is foreign to me so i dont know if it makes much sense to someone else. The second link is a link to a decent amount of information throughout.

As for answering your question, judging from the second link, no they are not pre wired? thats what they seem to say in the thread. The Kufatec harness came in last night so i believe i now have everything needed. Now i just need to find someone who is competent with the wiring. It doesn’t appear i know anyone though as ive asked a few people. Ill open the Kufatec box and look in. Maybe there are diagrams or something i can try and go off of.

BTW the Kufatec harness price wasnt bad but shipping was almost 40 bucks. Just an FYI.

^Thanks a ton! I’ve got some reading and researching to do.

I think it would be a good idea to use info out of this thread and put together a comprehensive DIY for this retrofit.

So we need the following parts:

What is that wiring harness in jimellisaudi link? Is that the same as Kufatec?

Also, what is a control module everyone refers to? Is it that dual heated switch that goes under the center armrest?

Eddie I think the hardest part would be removing interior bits to run wiring harness correctly, as in OEM placement. As long as the instructions are somewhat directional where everything plugs in, than the rest is a piece of cake.[/list]

I will open the Kufatec box tonight and take a look. I believe i have all parts needed (unless i need more wiring other than the Kufatec harness).

again great work It would be great to see a DIY seeing your work it would be one I and I think several others would follow you have shown to have high standards and helpful opinions. This is one of the mods I would consider adding to my S4

Ok got a hold of someone who has done this on AZ. Below is what he wrote.

It’s actually quite easy. The instructions are awful (bad translation to english). I can’t remember exactly. but basically the connections for the dials are all ready, and you should only need to add ground and power. Power is added up at the fuse box. I believe ground is back at the seats. Those wire leads that Kufatec provides are designed to be added to empty positions in your fuse box up at the drivers door. Some are constant power and some are ignition. I can check to see what fuse position I used, if thats helpful. For how to physically “unlock” the fuse box and add wires, I would try google searching a bit -that’s what i did. If you can’t figure it out, I can help find a tutorial, too.

I found it easiest to uninstall almost the entire interior of the car. Having both front seats and the console out helped significantly when figuring out how to best route the wiring.

Does that help? feel free to text me with other questions. Dont hang around AZ a lot any more, unfortunately!

Luckily for me i am changing out the entire interior (pretty much). As far as adding the ground and power im going to ask him if he means i need new wires for this or just find places.

BTW my box came with NO INSTRUCTIONS. lol. Ill keep this updated. Hopefully within the next two weeks i can get this all done. Ill def do a write up on this when i do it. Help out others. Its crazy that something like this hasn’t been written up yet. I know its more of a “luxury” type of thing but still, surprised.

Quick update. Installed the rear seats and wired everything. It was cold and we had to do it quick as my buddy didn’t have forever and a day to make a DIY. But here are some pointers.

FIRST MOST IMPORTANT
2007 and 2008 S4’s have a different seatbelt igniter. Found this out the hard way. Got everything finished and i have an airbag light on the dash. We are trying to sort out what my options are. Last resort is take the seat apart and replace the belt/igniter. We are looking into running a resistor instead. IT CANNOT BE CODED OUT.

The wiring harness from Kufatec made things SO simple. Hardest part of the day was getting the carpet up enough to get the harness through. We used a coat hangar from the rear set area to push it towards the center console. Ran the wiring through the center console, up through the RNSE area to under the steering wheel and to the fuse box.

I already had a wire tap running constant power to my Dashcam so we just tapped into it.

Any other questions please feel free to ask and i can answer. Pulling the seats is really simple.

I wonder how hard would it be to install this without changing the rear seat. I have a custom interior.

I don’t believe you have to change the seat. All you need to do is get a heating element and install that in your seats between upholstery and foam padding.

IMO it would just as hard if not harder. You would have to do the same thing i did, but then take your seats apart and add in a heating element. If you add in just the heating element you have nothing giving it power. Overall it wasnt too hard of a job. Just very time consuming. Removing seats is so damn easy once you do it one time. i have literally have my seats out of my car in 25 mins. And thats probably over shooting.

Also, i left the front seats in when we did this. So if i was to remove them it would have probably been easier.

Thanks for putting this up. Those of us living in the much colder states having a rear heated seat is a good idea if you have kids
