Revo DSG short shift

The problem I had, and I believe Sky expressed as well, was the 2-3 shift. That’s at close to 70 mph I believe -so I don’t think wheel spin is the problem (although sub freezing road surfaces here could make me incorrect about that).

If there is anything I think APR can/should/will do, it’s make a DSG tune for the 3.0T. They are getting owned by GIAC, and now it looks like Revo. If audizine is any kind of indication of buyer preference, new stg 2 3.0T GIAC/REVO/Unitronic to APR tunes are like 20-1.

I doubt the old engine calibrator was the one responsible for the DSG tune on the MK6, and APR has shown they know how to deliver a good product in the DSG domain. So despite the attrition and focus on sourcing parts from China, I bet they will put something compelling together for the B8/B8.5 DSG.

Random question, but are these B8.5 DSG short shifting issues affecting the S6, S7 owners on the 1/4 mile?

Short shifting and LC failures.

His point is that reflashing the transmission control unit won’t fix anything. If you have VCDS, you should be able to reset any kind of adaptation, if that is what you are trying to do.

But there is no reason why the software you got will be any different from what you would get with a re-flash UNLESS they actually changed something. Which Jeff@Revo should be able to tell you.

I cleaned my tires a couple of times after avoiding the water as best I could. Still had wheel spin and short shifting.

Yes, most of my problems were 2nd to 3rd gear. I’m going to call Jeff today and see what he has to say.

Concur!

you can certainly spin the tires on 2nd gear, which would make the car do this same protective mode on the 2-3 change

don’t forget that the wheelspin happens from 0 mph on launch that causes the 1-2 short shift. The 2-3 short shift could be caused by wheelspin on the 1-2.

I know that my Rs4 can spin the tires on the 2-3, so a tuned B8 S4 making considerably more torque can DEFINITELY spin the tires on the 1-2.

  1. they have been trying for 2 years already. primetime is a tester I think and I haven’t seen him posting any new records. In fact his car is slower with the DSG tune from the looks of it. That’s on a B8 and they still haven’t sorted that. They’re behind the curve on the B8.5

  2. OK let’s bet.

  3. Good question. Haven’t heard about that, however we also haven’t heard much from S6/7 owners.

See my answers in glow.

yes, you could argue about those incentives, however they haven’t even delivered the one they were working on for 2 years, and now that the B8.5 itself is out and is 2 years old, we have heard absolutely nothing on development, or being ready for beta testing (let alone market)

The story from APR is pretty loud and clear - basic ECU tuning on mass market cars, and super-margin chinese made hardware for same. That’s it.

and while you’re quoting Arin and APR employees, don’t forget to quote the fact that an APR ‘ENGINEER’ colluded with an APR dealer to run dyno/flash days for REVO so APR could steal REVO code.

They’re a fucking joke. If you think APR has tuned a thing, you’re lost. They’re great at thieving, and that’s about it. This goes back a few years, and isn’t new.

Look, you can say I’m drinking the cool aid, I honestly don’t really care. But they released this, which in my eyes is an important product to establishing credibility in this domain. I don’t really care about RS4 supercharger kits, or their ability to release a Stg 3 b8 s4 product.

Wonder who developed that product for them. i.e. wonder if he still works there. I don’t really wonder, I’m being facetious but you can’t tell tone from words.

Fuck this shit, I am buying Mickey Thompson DR and forgetting about wheel spin.

do it. We will be sure to put a big fat * on your times

Precisely!

WOW…I was just reading Audizine to see if there were any updates on the DSG tune from APR. There’s a post by “jamesj2k” that wrote: “Excuse my ignorance, I have a 2011 S4 DSG that was flashed APR1 about 2 years ago. Would this be an upgraded tune that would be worth re-flashing?”

This is exactly what I think I’ve got!!! Will have to get to an APR dealer so I can find out everything I’ve got on this car.
I’m telling y’all…my car is shifting at 7200 rpm’s ;D

As for the DSG tune from APR on the B8’s not being helpful…I completely disagree. Here’s what’s been presented in the past for the *new DSG tune:

Torque limit removed
Instrument cluster gear display in all gears and modes
Reduction in shift times for all gears and modes (up to 190ms for some cars)
Shift points raised to engine redline in D and M…set to optimum in S mode
Adjustable redline
**Kick down in manual mode can be disabled
**Up shift in manual mode can be disabled in gears 2 and above
Launch control enabled and optimized by reducing launch delay by 75%
Launch control rpm defined by end user
Redefined strategy for DSG oil temperature intervention

I’ve added the ** with the two items that I’m most interested in. Doing laps on road courses with the S4 DSG would really suck the way the trans operates from factory. Having complete control over the shifting is AWESOME!!!
I would absolutely pay for this tune.

Lots of adjustability and variables here for sure. If there are no bugs or hiccups it will be worth it for sure.
