Revo Logs...

One of the bigger controversies on the B8 platform since it came out has been the Revo tune… Basically, their tune seemed to have been thrown together rather quickly and disregarded many safeguards along with running very high timing… Some don’t want to believe this but some of us have seen the proof and it wasn’t pretty… At any rate I don’t think there have been any recent logs since the Revo/Stasis marriage and subsequent divorce…

So the topic recently came up again over on vendorzine and through Helix I offered to help anyone running the Revo tune who wanted to log… I had bgm130 from vendorzine(he joined here as well) reach out to me for some help on logging… We traded a few emails and he took a shot… Got a good log with two solid pulls, unfortunately he forgot one field and grabbed one incorrectly, so the log doesn’t have requested boost or IAT’s… Requested boost is a critical one since this is a true tell tale sign of removed safeguards since Revo had previously set this very high based on logs I and others have seen… IAT’s are also critical IMO, however this is what we have at this point… He plans to do more this week…

The two pulls from this log are still telling… So far what I can tell from these pulls is that the timing is much more in line with other 93 tunes… On a 4th gear pull from 5K RPM to redline the tune averaged a little under 18 degrees of timing with a peak of 21.375 at 6837 RPM and showed timing retard in all 3 cylinders measure to an average of -2.5 degrees… In addition the tune showed boost bypass albeit a small amount it still bypassed some showing to me at least that it’s working correctly… I still want to see requested boost and he is planning to do more logs this week so I’ll update once I have more data… Also, on the one shift between gears the car didn’t shift until over 7K rpm but it dumped 30% of the boost and had timing pull which to me shows the safeguards working but again I want to see more data before being 100%

Figured I would share and bgm said he didn’t mind me sharing his data so that is why I am posting and hopefully he chimes in… If anyone wants to see the logs for themselves just email me and I’ll send them along and it never hurts to have another set of eyes looking at them…

help me understand this…

[/quote]
Why is this critical? Does this not just shut the bleedoff or whatever you call it to ensure the PULLEY and blower RPM is determining boost, instead of an artifical factory installed speedbump (bleedoff)? That speedbump was not put in for safety…it was to be able to sell the exact same engine on 6 different platforms/brands and not have to change anything other than tuning in order to ‘differentiate’ one from the other. Q5 vs. SQ5 is a great example…that’s why that bleedoff exists.

Personally I don’t think this is ‘critical’. I also think that once people saw what REVO did, the other tuning companies raised their ‘requested boost threshold’ so as not to be limited by dense cold weather air causing their previously established threshold to be eclipsed (these cars were tuned in Alabama and California where they never see these super low temps, or resulting big boost levels)

I can tell you that APR supercharged the B7 RS4 (twice) and did not put a boost limiter on there. Guys who buy the kit in Florida and see 14 lbs of boost will have a different experience to guys who bought the kit in oh I don’t know…say Allentown, PA, where they will see 16ish PSI of boost.

If REVO fuck with knock sensitivity that’s odd, but whatever, that’s how they tune. Those logs are very interesting. But I don’t get the concern with eliminating the boost bleedoff. Maybe I am missing something…

Saki-

After Revo released their tune and GIAC developed theirs, APR and then GIAC went back and made their requested boost adaptive based on IATs. Revo just had it set universally high, which required mucking with (read: disabling) the underboost routines. This, IMO, is less of an issue than mucking with knock sensitivity safeguards (which should only be done at the OEM level or with OEM-like equipment and testing procedures), but it’s still messing with an OEM safeguard unnecessarily and kind of a ham-fisted approach.

As the supercharger has a fixed pulley, it’s an unlikely condition to occur but if for some reason you had some sort of belt slippage/breakage or you went full retard and installed a larger pulley, you wouldn’t throw any codes and thus would need a boost gauge or visual inspection to confirm a loss of power. There may be further implications to the requested boost, but that’s all I could figure off the top of my head.

Ron-

If you don’t mind I’ll go ahead and post your writeup over on Vendorzine also. I think it sums it up well and is certainly evidence that Revo has dialed things back somewhat, at least on the timing side. I wonder if bgm would be willing to log their race file also? I’m curious as to whether it’s still broken or they are still running too much timing advance.

I’m sure West will crow about how he already proved this, which will no doubt produce some entertainment and, if nothing else, give me a chance to verbally slap him around a little more.

Hey everyone. Primetime thank you again for all the help with the logging. I had bought the Vagcom when i first got the car to change some things and was not aware of how useful/powerful it is. After i figured out what parts I missed i looked through your email and found the 2 fields that i was missing and added them to my next set of logs. I was able to convince the wife to run the laptop so i could get some runs last night. the Air temp was about 67 when i did the logging. Here are the details I sent to Prime earlier

I screwed up the first log since i forgot to check turbo. so when i started these the car was already up to temp. The reading i got was 94 from block 007.

since i could only do 10(fields) at a time(it will allow 12 but wont actaully log anything just reads N/A) i took out throttle position since i figured we could go by RPM. for the first log(1-3) i did 3rd gear roll to shift. and then 2 from a dig to shift out of 3rd

the second log (3-6) I changed up the cylinders and did 3 more runs.
3rd gear roll to shift
dig to 3rd gear shift
3rd gear roll to shift
the last one was merging onto a highway.

Glad i could help out finally. have been reading these forums for a long time!

or just link it here

Saki, I guess I could have choose another term, but given that is what most pointed out I was hoping to see it and graph it to show how close or far away requested was from actual… I think seeing bypass and the timing tells me what I wanted to see but again the more data the better… Also, at no point on any of the tunes APR sent me was requested set to an unattainable level, was it raised, yes but it still was close to actual…

Helix, share away as that is what its about…

bgm, Welcome to AR! I saw your email today I’m in the office now so I’ll look them over tonight…

Really great to see these guys getting support from the knowledgeable members here. Welcome new members, lots of very helpful open-minded b8 guys on here.

If I can ask a question?

What is stock max boost and what is expected max boost in stage 2 form?

Stock max requested boost is around 12.7psi if IIRC from my P3 gauge. Stage 2 max boost varies based on IAT. Ron has probably seen some fairly high numbers.

Also Stock boost bleeds off after 4100 rpm IIRC, which is easily changed in the tune. Most people notice that big difference when going from stock to any tune. Granted I am not tuned, personally the car is plenty fast for me. I nearly shat myself at the dragstrip.

I have tried to post the logs but i keep getting “upload folder is full”
any ideas? I figure i would post two logs on here since the topic on AZ got buried already. 3 pages back under topics of upgraded Audi paddle shifters and will stage 2 blow up my car. its funny the topic asking for proof is getting more attention then the results ???

I generally do this with my logs…take the excel file, clean it up, screenshot and paste it into a jpg

You could always load it to audilogs.com, Mistro’s site.

I think I am getting called out by Roger Federer on vendorzine… Would he like to see the current logs or the ones that blew up a B8 motor, since I have both?

Also, gotta love Revo chiming in… lol

bgm, Sorry been busy I owe you an email…

Oh snap. I’d be happy to post the blown motor logs. Would be great to show deltas between that and the new tune

Correction: Roger Federer’s sycophant

Prime,
no worries on the email. i was able to “reverse engineer” what you did to get PSI I was also able to use google docs to link the files.

Prime I tried to jump in for ya…I think it’s best posting data where it’s really going to be looked at with a fair shot…AZ will just make a mess of it and I don’t think any answers will be given to help these guys out.

Just checking in, I don’t have time to read the whole thread, but sure, feel free to use those blown REVO motor logs wherever you like. It’s been too long, one day I’ll catch up on all these threads. BTW, congrats sake on the new time. Your car is really moving.

Lol sake = Saki to Siri. Cheers.

Chris/Helix, thanks for the support I appreciate it… I don’t worry about folks like Roger Federer, which is sad because he has some good knowledge and can contribute in a good way but instead decideds to be a tool… He worries about the color of parts that you can’t see and such… lol

J, I appreciate that and wouldn’t share w/o you knowing as I haven’t sent the logs to anyone… Since you seem to no longer mind I’ll send them to Helix and he can post on vendorzine which I’m sure will be great fun…

So what’s the over/under on how long it takes until West posts something…West-like or Swank bitches about APR, Ron, or the data not being to his satisfaction after I post the logs tonight?
