Revo stage 1+ first time at track

So I decided to take the car to raceway park on Wed to see what revo 1+ would do. I have a 2012 DSG, 25k miles, intake AWE with stock DPs, Eurocode AK, sways ans End links, 19 x 9.5 stance Sc5 wheels with hancock V12 tires. Had revo stage 1 from 4k and got the pulley about 1500 miles ago, had 1/4 tank of 93 octane
The forecast was calling for hot an humid but i wanted to get in some runs before Waterfest next weekend and get through the first time jitters. I was emailing back and forth with primetime a bunch and reading other posts about techniques from some of you others(staging, tires, launching).
Got to the track early 4pm and was hangng around with some older guys one had a CTV(ran 11.4) and a 77 year old with a S65 amg(11.6). they also gave some pointers and helped pass the time since the first race was not till 6 for some reason. After waiting around everything when really quickly so i missed turning on the Gopro but i had the logging all set up. I was the first person down the track for the day and Posted my best time of the night.

I got up to the line and immediately everything i had been told went out the window. car was in dynamic, AC off, all TC was turned off. Should have learned more about the timing on the lights since my first reaction time was awful. but after i realized finally it was time to go i mashed the gas and the car took off. 12.706 @ 109.87. the first two runs in has the worst DA 2157.
second run A kid in an M3(who ran 12.7 first time) wanted to line up with me. this time i screwed up logging, forgot the Go pro and my biggest error forgetting dynamic Ugh. he beat me by just a bit. i am sure if i had dynamic i would have had him. 12.828 @ 109.26
third run i decided to try launch control sinc my 0-60 times have been much better with it. I mistimed the light and launch control bogged before green light and ran the worst time. I was up against and old mustang and still caught up and beat him though. 13.262 @ 108.58
I wanted to try launch control on my last run so i took my car all the way out to the other side of the lot and timed it so i would be ready for my last run. was able to get back into the 12s (12.914 @ 108.01)
I was pretty happy for my first time out and the weather. I have ruled out launch control for my next attempt at waterfest and am thinking of getting some race gas the day before and trying that out. If i left any details out let me know. i am working on getting a couple videos. i had 2 from the Gopro and 4 from my buddies camera from the stands.
thanks again to prime for all the help!

Good stuff bud! Glad you went out and the times will only improve as the weather does and you get more experience… Most importantly it sounds like you had fun which is what matters most! In the office so I can’t view the link but I’ll check it out at home tonight…

Oh and no problem on the help man as that is what it’s all about!

i didnt think the light affected the times, or was it bracket racing?

it doesn’t have any effect on ET

not sure why anyone bothers talking about them from an academic point. It’s hard to ignore when you’re running though

Great to see you get out there and make some passes. Your times will only improve as the conditions become more favorable.

+karma to prime for helping out AR members. That’s 2 or 3 in the past week.

Not too bad for the first time. The past few weeks have had really bad DA conditions. Good to see some revo times.

Good stuff! Thanks for posting up the results. Will be really interesting to see how the tune performs with a better DA.

Yup, the high DA’s suck…

I know the tree/lights don’t have anything to do with your time, but it feels damn good when you nail it. I had a couple below 0.1 this last time, and I think one was 0.04 which is good for me (I’m usually in the 0.2 range at best). I was running a Ram SRT10 when I hit the 0.04, and I think he was surprised at how I completely destroyed him off the line. We were talking before the race while delayed in the staging line, and he was pretty confident he would give me a run (our times/MPH were pretty similar up to that point). I think I ended up running a 12.9@111 and he ran a 13.8@105… Add in the RT difference, and he was WAY back by the end of the race.

I think you should just get things in order and wait until fall to run. It’s always fun to go out, but it is pointless if conditions aren’t just a little bit favorable.

That’s the plan. However, October 25th is the only date for the rest of the year where it could be decent conditions, and the track is open to the public. Everything else is September 5th or earlier when the DA’s will likely still be over 2000.

With that said, I’m not trying to break any records. This started as a way to see how my car was running, and I have probably just taken it a bit too far- I guess that’s what happens when you don’t have a job… At this point, I am just wasting time working on both the B5 and B8, and doing some testing until I get my business started later this year.

exactly. Especially when you’re benchmarking your results and calling them good, bad, or ‘something’s wrong’ after comparing to our quarter mile list…

audirevolution.net/quartermile

…because nobody looks at the list and says ‘oh hey, I’m normal because it’s summer and I’m even with the slowest guys’. instead, our tendency is to ‘high water mark’ things, and compare to the best times. Well newsflash…the best guys ran in 0 feet to -2000 feet of density altitude. Not +3000 feet. So if the swing is 5000 or 4000 feet between a hot summer time and the fastest guys, that’s a 10-15% power difference effectively. i.e. 60 hp. Guess what 60hp means on a 12 second car? 6 tenths and 6 mph.

So we shouldn’t all be so fussed about summer times. They’re frankly useless.

Saki, I don’t think it is or should be .6 probably more like .3ish maybe .4ish based on my experience… For example, in good DA(0-750) my car usually and pretty consistently goes 11.7x… In a decent DA(750-1500) it goes 11.8 - 11.9 pretty consistently and in a crappy DA(1500 - 2500) it goes 11.9 - 12.0 and in a horrible DA(2500+) it goes 12.0-12.1 I just looked at a few slips(ones I have in the office on PC) and I went 11.99 and 12.04 in 2350DA and 12.0-12.1 in 3100DA… Unfortunately, I’ve never run the car in negative DA much less negative DA with good weather that is more a result of the track being sea level… I agree though most don’t get this and just look at my times, Jeff’s times, Ryan’s, Pete’s etc and expect to run that… People like bgm and jran get it but most don’t unfortunately… good discussion either way!

so you are saying you go from 11.7 to 12.0-12.1 after a swing of 2500 feet (3 tenths or 4)? Where do we differ? Maybe you meant to say it’s not 6…but MORE than 6?

I said a swing of 5000 feet (going from -2000 at Atco in February to +3000 feet in Chicago or Texas in July) is about 60hp or 6 tenths.

You’re agreeing with me with what you posted.

So I attended waterfest on Sat to hang out with some good people and test out the car again. I decided to try out The 100 octane map so bought 8 gallons of 103 mixed with a little less than 1/4 of 93 the day before. that way i was able to switch the map on the way down and let the car adjust. Got there at 12 had time to get through tech and then take a quick lap around the vendor area. An APR stage 3 on a black DSG was there with some dyno numbers finally. the other thing that stood out was what i thought was an imported RS6 but turned out to be a complete conversion. What a shame we don’t get these cars here.
Car mods are in my signature. this was Full weight run DA was around +1000. had just under half a tank of fuel. car was still warm from an hour ride down the GSP.
Anyway, shortly after i heard them calling the cars to staging. Was first in line and a b8.5 pulled in. Turned out to be Auditude2.0, tsvias and one of thier fathers. Glad to meet you guys very cool and knowledgeable. First Run was Vs a B8.5 with a giac stg 2, DSG Tune, and CPS system but running 93 octane. I got a great start and took off felt like I was flying i was shocked when my slip was 12.4. I edged out the B8.5 by a few hundreths. But after speaking with him and looking at my buddies video he messed up using launch control like i did a few weeks ago(bogged down before the green). he was catching up VERY quickley the whole time. The next run i was right behind him and he ran 12.0.
I did 6 total runs hot lapping. car was VERY conisitant as you can see in the slips. second run i used launch control and saw almost no difference between that and MASH and go. you can tell the Giac with DSG tune the launches are MUCH more powerful.
I did want to check the 100 vs 93 tune to clear that up so my 4th run I switched back to 93 and did a run. slower by 3/10ths of a second. changed it back for the next run with no adjustment time and was right back into the 12.4xx range.
I am pretty confident after 5 runs in the same time that this is what my car is capable of in this weather. would have been curious to see an APR stage 2 but i did not see any Run on Sat. The Cold front is a must for these cars to get better times.

thats all for now

So after 2 week wait I am just now getting the Revo DSG flash. Should be done shortly and I’ll head down to Mexico later. I took a few before videos and will te some after ones.

Nice! Looking forward to your impressions and numbers… When you hitting the dragstrip ;D Maybe some gopros using LC! Will they be offering to anyone or do you require a revo flash? Good stuff…

Hey everyone,
so Here are the “interesting” logs Prime was talking about. I sent them over the weekend after my trip to the strip. Thanks to Jran for the easy step by step i was able to log the correct things and get the perimeters saved(that was always my issue finding them again haha)
weather was garbage. hot and 91% humidity. but DA was about the same as the last time so the only change was DSG tune(i will get into that later). got to track on E and filled up with 5 gallons of 104 octane and switch over to race mode. best run was 12.519 @ 112.80. 60’ time was awful 1.891.

so here are the logs. I have been told by the tuner they look fine other than IAT being high. not sure why other then the weather. my p3 reads about 205 for coolant most of the time at the track. i am hoping nothing is wrong with the AWE install. i have been checking the coolant levels and they are good, i did see 212 once while sitting in traffic which was strange.

bgm, thanks for posting…

So what do others think? Given the high IAT’s there was zero timing retard during any pass, I’ll let you draw your own conclusion… Also, notice how the timing spikes in the very high rpm’s right before the shift, I highlighted these lines in red… The tune dumps boost but no timing pull and some very high #'s even for a 104 tune… With the APR/GIAC logs I’ve seen they seem to be more focused on keeping the boost going into the motor but showing some retard especially given the high IAT’s he was seeing… I thought the IAT’s would be lower with the cold front system but it was obviously very hot outside… Air mass values are also lower and will benefit greatly from a open element intake IMO, probably about 8-10% increase… Thoughts?

You guys know a lot more about how to analyze these. It’s interesting that there is never any timing pull from knock detection, so your guess is they disabled the knock sensors based on the high IAT’s?

I’m curious why in some of the pulls the bypass valve is opening for a lot of it?

Seems the bypass opens when it shifts (or lowers requested boost, not sure which is cause/effect), which significantly lowers the manifold pressure while that timing advance soars. Is it really a problem with the advanced timing if the manifold pressure is so low? Maybe this is how revo protects the engine?
